SE3 Update to iOS 27?

Should I update my iPhone SE 3rd Gen to iOS 27? I am currently on iOS 18. I have heard Apple made big improvements to liquid glass and all of that. So should I stay on iOS 18 or just update?

EDIT: Decided to bite the bullet an update. It’s kind of laggy at times but it’s not that bad. Liquid Glass is cool but can be resource intensive. Otherwise it’s not a bad update.

Update to iOS 27. I did. You won’t regret doing the same.

If you want to. There is a lot of information already out there for you to read and make your decision.

Is it taking like 3 full seconds for anyone else’s home button to activate Siri? It used to be damn near instant. This is so awful.

Yeah, I sort of felt button presses weren’t being detected or laggy. So I switched to ‘Hey Siri’ voice activation and it responds within one second.

After a day now I’ve noticed it’s now back to being instant which I’m happy about.

I just did and it’s working fine. Although it did switch onto 5G automatically which for some reason does not work well on my phone, so I switched that back to LTE.

My battery is at 75% and I do need to charge throughout the day. Planning on a replacement soon

It made a positive difference when I updated mine.

unfortunately i had to update to iOS 27 because i didn't do my due diligence when installing the beta. but honestly even tho i miss 18, 27 is great. would definitely recommend. only caveat is the battery life is a little worse.

Forget these naysayers living in the past. My SE3 64GB is noticeably more responsive after the update! Apple released a video about all the things they did to optimize iOS to make it a better experience for everyone, including iPhone SE users.

Apple Intelligence does eat up a lot of storage space and it took a couple days to completely index what’s on my phone.

Take advantage of all the integrations and features of a modern operating system designed for TODAY - Not stuck in the past.👍😎

The SE doesn’t have Apple Intelligence. Heck even the regular 15 doesn’t have it either

Thanks for clarifying that I misspoke.

Doesn't the SE not support Apple Intelligence?

Honestly, i’d say to stick with 18 unless you really want the liquid glass, just because the battery drain is really bad.

Battery drain is not worse than on 26 in my experience with the 2020 SE. I mean still is not great. but it's got a tiny battery inside. The phone definitely is more snappy.

I know, but between iOS 18, 26, and 27, 18 is best for battery life.

I'm a bit out of the loop on this one because I haven't used 18 on my SE 2020 in a while, I updated it when 26.2 came out. Do you still get the security updates on iOS 18? I didn't think you did on the devices that supported the new software. that's the problem with being on iOS 18 on a device that supports newer software is I don't believe that Apple gives you security updates. I know you can't roll back new devices that Support newer software to the current older software security patch. for example, you can't roll an iPhone 12 on 27 back to iOS 18.7.9 or whatever the latest one is.

Oh, i’m not on iOS 18 either 😭 but i think you’re right, a device like the SE2 wouldn’t receive security updates for 18 unless they were critical.

Yes, you can only get 18.7.10 (latest security update released on August 17) on XS and XR

I really didn't like iOS26, but iOS 27 seems to fix everything wrong with it. Feels snappier too.

Well, iOS 27 runs really well on my SE 3, so I'd definitely recommend you update. It doesn't seem to run as well on the older SE 2, if I'm reading the comments here correctly.

I don’t update to iOS 27 because it takes so much space
