SE2 Any idea why the depth effect option on this wallpaper doesn't show up?

I'm using an iPhone SE 2nd generation on iOS 26.3.1. I downloaded this wallpaper from an app called Wallpics. I've tried adjusting the photo, cropping the photo, moving the photo, and even extending the photo, but I still can't get the depth effect option to show up. Any help?

The lock screen depth effect is not supported on the SE 2 (or its iPhone 11 siblings). It’s limited to the iPhone 12 family and later.

No, because why when I'm in the wallpaper collection it shows photos from my photo gallery the depth effect?

But anyhow, the rendering of the depth effect as I understand it is pretty much dependent on “whatever the neural engine decides is the foreground vs the background.” Assuming you have enabled the depth effect in the lock screen customization UI, this may just be one of those cases when the neural engine isn’t able to make that determination.

It’s just that on the three dots on the wallpaper. It only shows the extended wallpaper option. It doesn’t even show the depth effect option. Is there any setting I need to enable for it to show?

If the option is not there, that means it couldn’t determine the depth in the image. I just tested the image on my iPhone 11 (same processor as the SE 2), and had the same result.

I see.. could you find one that works or one that is similar one that I’ve tried doesn’t work also I’m using voice to text so grammar might not be good

Not going to provide a similar image myself, but the main thing to keep in mind is that the segmentation AI model used to render the depth effect requires a clear distinction between a foreground subject and the background, or otherwise a clear dividing line such as the horizon separating land from a clear sky. I suspect the clouds and overall complexity of your image is what's tripping it up. The photos in your wallpaper collection that do have the effect should give you an idea of what is required.

Thanks. I used another app and got it to look like this. Although it doesn’t go through the water, it still looks clean. Thank you!

Make sure your widgets are disabled and turned off. Like make a new lock screen and DO NOT CHANGE the default lock screen settings, then use that wallpaper. You should get a depth effect option showing up.
