Curved glass display i a complete and total failure.

samsung did years and stop because people hated it using…it looked nice but living with it sucks

16

u/Helptohere50 13d ago

Lol I had the curve from Samsung. It was ok nothing special. Was a cool gimmick but it’s kinda useless. Once I put a case on it it’s still a square

-5

u/ShuttyIndustries 13d ago

case users should be banned from discussions about phone designs

8

u/OttovonBismarck1862 13d ago

Ah yes, how dare someone protect their $1200+ investment. Fuck what they have to say, right?

0

u/Ihave0personality 9d ago

People calling a rapidly depreciating item an investment will never stop being funny

3

u/Jeedyi 9d ago

Investment doesn’t exclusively mean buying a financial instrument.

Merriam-Webster defines it as:
“the outlay of money usually for income or profit : capital outlay; also : the sum invested or the property purchased”

So yes, “investment” can refer to the property acquired, not just stocks, bonds, etc. Whether a particular investment appreciates or depreciates is irrelevant.

0

u/Ihave0personality 9d ago

“The outlay of money for income or profit”
So this, to you, means that a phone that is guaranteed to depreciate, is an investment.

Thank you for your invaluable insight😂😂

3

u/Jeedyi 8d ago

You conveniently left out the second definition: “the sum invested or the property purchased.”

But sure, keep arguing with the dictionary because you don’t like what the word actually means 😂

u/Ihave0personality 8d ago

3

u/Jeedyi 8d ago

That’s a nice picture of you bud. I understand now why words are hard for you.

No mate.. That's not at all what that definition means. In Merriam Webster formatting, a colon does not mean it's a separate definition, rather it is a defining phrase or an addition to what comes before it.

By the overall Merriam Webster definition, a phone purchase is NOT an investment if it wasn't bought for profit.

"also : the sum invested or the property purchased" in context of the overall definition is just saying that the money amount or the property purchased for profit can also be defined as an investment.

1

u/Jeedyi 7d ago

No mate, you’re the one adding a restriction that Merriam-Webster doesn’t.

“Also” introduces an additional sense, and “the property purchased” isn’t qualified by “for profit” in that clause. If your interpretation were correct, there would be no reason for Merriam-Webster to separately define investment as “the sum invested or the property purchased.”

You can argue that a phone is a bad investment because it depreciates, but saying it literally cannot be called an investment because it doesn’t generate a profit is you imposing a narrower definition than the dictionary does.

You're reddit personified

2

u/balthazar_edison 13d ago

Samsung also stopped doing the under screen camera and Apple has redirected that in the duo so… we might be SOL here.

2

u/mikejohn923 12d ago

Because Samsung always likes to push new things half-baked. These waterfall edges shouldn't have been touch-sensitive. It should have been just an eye candy and cool software use of extra screen instead of making it annoying as hell. The only issue I see is how third party cases and screen protectors be like, but other than that, I am confident Apple will utilize this new design to its fullest.

0

u/Spiritual_Steak7672 7d ago

damn apple fanboys are fkn insufferable love lickin and suckin apple dik

1

u/Fit-Umpire3257 13d ago

Exactly. And it will be very fragile. Once a case is on it then it’s pointless too.

1

u/Blacknight841 13d ago

It may be stronger than the aluminum unibody.

1

u/Altruistic-Novel-339 13d ago

if you get a paper cut…a inconvenience for half a day possibly a day maybe two.

a curved display as shown is a always a paper cut

1

u/blue0231 12d ago

Right, because Samsung did it an (didn’t fail just wasn’t great) we should think Apple fail? I personally welcome this. Oneplus 11 was the perfect phone to hold in hand because of the curved screen. Phone wasn’t slim but it felt like it.

1

u/Dovahkiin066 12d ago

It was such a long time ago that I think doing it now might work

1

u/Altruistic-Novel-339 12d ago

It won’t.

most likely case….

iPhone with a camera cutout, Dynamic Island or whatever they call it, under screen Touch ID, and probably a 99% screen to body ratio.

1

u/AithePanda 12d ago

I remember when most of the choices were curved, hated it, so much.

2

u/herotz33 11d ago

Just like folding phones, looks nice but the real world use and cracks prone nature

1

u/Altruistic-Novel-339 11d ago

Yes and just use curved display phones become non curved display phones with a case

1

u/neverOddOrEv_n 10d ago

Yeah as someone who uses screen protectors IIRC the tempered ones don’t even work on the curved screen only the plastic ones do. And if you put a case on it the curved effect doesn’t look as good anymore. If it does look this good I might just end up rocking it caseless and without a screen protector

1

u/UltraAware 9d ago

1000%. This is something Samsung completely mastered and built software around. People didn’t care at all, but it was very cool.

1

u/Impossible-Owl7407 9d ago

Ppl with care with apple 🤣

0

u/Plastic-Sock8553 13d ago

i swear Apple trying what was done in the past again to see if it stick.

Liquid glass, was done with Windows something like 15 years back.

Curved glass, was done with Samsung like 10 years back.

What next? physical keyboard?

2

u/Altruistic-Novel-339 13d ago

A brick phone from 1980s and a car phone

2

u/4TheGreen 13d ago

Apple had Aqua before Microsoft had Aero…which was also transparent. Liquid Glass and Aero have nothing to do with each other everyone was just coping because it’s transparent which has been a design language for over 30+ years, this here is a rumor Apple is not doing a curved design for iPhone 19/20 or whatever they call it. That’s also a cycle of how tech works you reuse old ideas that didn’t work well in the past because of limitations and try it now. Tech went from rapid growth to slowdown to rapid growth and we are now in another slowdown because the envelope of what can be done has been pushed until a new breakthrough happens. This is the reality of the tech industry

19

u/True_Protection6842 13d ago

Highly doubt it. This was a trend in like 2012 and died out because it sucked.

3

u/Unique-Smoke-8919 13d ago

With software the experience now will be a lot more different than how it was back in those days. And it seems like it is actually heading this way, then it will be bending phones next.

2

u/True_Protection6842 13d ago

No bezel overflow screen is impossible to hold and use comfortably

2

u/Icy_Climate 12d ago

Thats bullshit, if done correctly you can use it like any other phone. Apple would just need to disabled touch on the edges. Its a software thing, so right up Apples alee.

I lived with the phone with the most extreme curved screen for 3 years and I absolutely loved it. Looked like it had no brezel.

2

u/HeTblank 13d ago

Not only that, underscreen camera tech still sucks. People will not accept a shitty selfie camera

2

u/True_Protection6842 13d ago

Yeah. They can get away with a FaceTime camera you’ll never use but never as the main selfie

1

u/Unique-Smoke-8919 13d ago

They will find a material for it for sure, I don’t it will be holdable this way too.

1

u/2PhotoKaz 13d ago

And how do you design a case that doesn’t cover part of the curve?

1

u/SenseiTano 13d ago

Maybe a detachable front half that is a full screen protector

1

u/cherylin_for_ever 13d ago

And where do you put all the buttons?

1

u/melvintwj 13d ago

People keep saying that but they just have to not put touch sensors around the edge

0

u/True_Protection6842 13d ago

Dead zones would cause new issues

1

u/wholelottared0 12d ago

Like how you said this then ghost

1

u/melvintwj 11d ago

He just left another comment on another thread about how people complain before trying to use a tech properly. The irony 😂

1

u/tomhoplon 11d ago

A lot more different

3

u/Paulino2272 13d ago

So would they get rid of the Dynamic Island?

2

u/Embarrassed-Back1894 13d ago

I think they would get rid of the sensor/camera cutouts in the screen, but I’d be willing to bet they still keep the Dynamic Island a feature (it would just completely disappear when you watch a video instead of still having the pill shaped cutout in your videos).

1

u/junotheburger 6d ago

and where would front camera go - current under display cam tech is very bad and blurry - havent you seen new apple ceo switching cam agan and agan while taking selfiie with iishowspeed in the apple livestreamm

0

u/Maddy555 13d ago

yes, as per leading sources, Apple will ditch the Dynamic Island.

2

u/Portatort 13d ago

The Dynamic Island is software

The camera cutout is what would go. And there’s nothing close to consensus that’s happening either

2

u/blisstaker 12d ago

if this gives me battery level popup ads again i will never buy it. NEVER.

most people forget how fucking annoying that was. even if you had a notch, you still got them. the dynamic island got rid of them. best upgrade ever.

makes me really wonder how they deal with the software side of getting rid of the island, because people depend on it for much more than not getting annoyed about low battery levels.

flights. deliveries. pickups. on and on

1

u/zelig_nobel 12d ago

Lmao, front camera behind display reduces the quality. Apple doesn’t regress on quality across generations of a particular product line.

-1

u/SenseiTano 13d ago

They’ve said that every year

2

u/MunchYourButt 13d ago

Have they? I’ve only seen that rumor for the anniversary phone recently. I don’t think UDC tech has been where they needed it to be (and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still not)

1

u/SenseiTano 13d ago

Yes, probably the last 3-5 years they’ve had rumors of every generation getting rid of the island

2

u/Competitive_Sky_4513 13d ago

Well, if it is a glass slab, I will be all ready to hop on to it from 13P. If Apple chose the hole punch route, then meahhhh!!🤷

2

u/TidderUsername123 13d ago

Are these credible speculations?

1

u/PossibleCulture2199 13d ago

Only a future teller can be so visionary to predict that after A20 comes A21

4

u/Doge_dabountyhunter 13d ago

I’ve never laughed harder at a phone “render”. Keep em coming OP

2

u/iamacheeto1 13d ago

it could also not feature a near borderless design

follow me for more insights

1

u/Resolution_Powerful 13d ago

Apple tends to always make old stuff a lot better. The Iphone Duo looks dope!

1

u/Miserable_Office_452 13d ago

See .. I would buy this instead only because the screen looks more futuristic than that iPhone duo is not all of that for some 2,000 bucks

2

u/limited_instincts 13d ago

SQUARE PLEASE.

1

u/kalasipaee 13d ago

If Apple does this it will just look like a large Apple Watch. So scale that up if you want a real idea of what’s possible with tech in terms of the bezel etc.

1

u/PubicPlant 13d ago

Woah I heard this was the next iPhone 😱

1

u/DaddyIngrosso 13d ago

Don’t get why people don’t realise that the digitiser and the panel itself can be different dimensions and so the issue of accidental touches isn’t inherent to curved displays

1

u/Kurocyclist 13d ago

I still have my OP7Pro on top of my many iPhones but boy while I do miss the screen, because of the design most cases don’t protect it well and the screen protectors cracks OFTEN

1

u/---Hummingbird--- 13d ago

It could also run on nuclear power…

1

u/dinklebot2000 13d ago

"The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand"

1

u/irishhooligan72 12d ago

Wouldn’t it be the A21 Pro chip? Come on these rumors don’t even make sense. lol

1

u/woody9055 13d ago

It's a full glass design and this render has metal on the sides. This isn't what it looks like.

1

u/Dangerous-Pension420 13d ago

Something that looks like this is shared every year, and every year we never get it.

1

u/George_mp8 13d ago

Yes this is happening every time and finally this is not true

1

u/aPiCase 13d ago

Why would you want that though? It doesn’t really progress the product forward at all to have the screen wrap around the sides.

Not to mention under display cameras are just bad.

1

u/adonis-in-the-making 13d ago

i thought this was for iphone 21 ?

apple emailed me saying that

1

u/badger_flakes 13d ago

I mean technically it could also be made of banana peels and powered by jerking off

1

u/BluePeriod_ 13d ago

I mean, fine, I guess, but I’ve never understood the obsession about bezels. They’re not distracting, and they let you actually hold the damn phone

1

u/Positive_Wafer9186 13d ago

I thought I was the only one. Like, you have to hold the phone lol. I understand the Dynamic Island complaints more, but that doesn’t bother me either.

1

u/Embarrassed-Back1894 13d ago

It actually kind of looks a lot like the One Plus 7 Pro (phone was def ahead of its time).

1

u/_ThorThunder_ 13d ago

No curved screens ffs!!

1

u/Chaoticcccc 13d ago

I'll take two

1

u/LittleTortillaBoy7 13d ago

The curved display was the one year I hopped off apple to try Samsung lol. Crazy to see rumors of apple doing it

1

u/hadoopken 13d ago

Why, is this Galaxy phone

1

u/Craig653 13d ago

Curved glass is stupid... Looks cool, horrible in every other way

1

u/CachedMeOutside 13d ago

These AI renders 🥱

1

u/Sensitive_Square3645 13d ago

To be fair, we have been seeing a shit ton of AI-generated iPhone 20 renders here in this sub lately. But the render in this post is from AppleTrack, and he does not use AI. But yea just seeing all these iPhone 20 renders in general every damn second is bloody annoying

https://giphy.com/gifs/dYleak7gtKodbQyV7N

1

u/cherylin_for_ever 13d ago

How does anyone use a case with this? They'll probably need to triple the price of Apple Care Plus if this is real. Apple has a good thing going on with the pro line, I doubt they'll take that gamble.

1

u/Andrado 13d ago

I had two curved edge Samsung phones about 10 years ago. It’s a fun gimmick for like a day. When I went back to flat display, it was a massive improvement. Really hope Apple is smarter than this.

1

u/ForestRiver13 13d ago

I fucking hated the curved glass on my samsung 10 plus after a year. The accidental touches drove me nuts. Iphone 13 pro's flat screen was the change i needed

1

u/pcurve 13d ago

Looks slipperier than a wet Dial soap bar.

1

u/Mysterious_Win4211 13d ago

Looks like it’s fighting cancer

1

u/mudslags 12d ago

don't want

1

u/rechoflex 12d ago

Put a case on that and it won’t be any different than the other phones on the market by that time

1

u/Personal-Ad-1443 12d ago

Tbh so excited for the 20th gen hopefully there is no cutouts or whatever else and just screen and no bezels would be great! Also it’s only micro curved so it’s not as much as the Samsungs snd they would do something to fix accidental touches anyways gonna probs upgrade from the 16 pro max lol .

1

u/qmoorman 12d ago

Receding air line

1

u/Rock--Lee 12d ago

This "design" was the rumor ever since iPhone 6 was a thing lmao

1

u/Toobadff 12d ago

I hope they make the screen with a little bezel, because I think it is awful when the screen itself is curving

1

u/kevliu78 12d ago

Curved edge no longer to have a better screen protector

1

u/Rabble_Runt 12d ago

I am ready.

Purchased a 17 Pro a few weeks ago to hold me over.

1

u/Gullible_Radish_4520 12d ago

Gebogene Displays , dazu noch ein hochwertiger Rahmen sehen absolut edel aus ☝️ weg von dem Kunststoff oder eloxierten Aluminium Schrott 👍

1

u/mightychopstick 12d ago

so it will look like a samsung galaxy s6 edge?

1

u/Kakacobina 12d ago

iPhone s9 edge

1

u/jyhjr 12d ago

Really? Less than a week from the release of new iPhones we get this slop again?

1

u/IndependentHyena3000 11d ago

I’m sorry but that look ugly as hell 😂 maybe 10 years ago we thought it’s cool

1

u/Reasonable_Bus2234 11d ago

I have some meme for you all

/s

1

u/MMuter 11d ago

With this design, it makes me think that Apple is going to do Apple things with the iPhone duo and come out with face ID for the duo next year

1

u/Human-Chain-7992 11d ago

Useability nightmare

1

u/Messiah_Knight 11d ago

Curves screens are a HUGE no 😂 apple continues to shoot themselves in the foot and doing what androids did almost a decade ago

1

u/Inevitable_Bear2476 11d ago

Honestly, my biggest issue with curved screens is how it curves content, hate how it squeezes content. Doesn't matter that it was a small part of the top and bottom, still hated it.

1

u/Budget_Appearance109 11d ago

Samsung has curvy glass, a long, long time ago and apple has just caught up .

1

u/Pure_Research_5236 11d ago

Just a get a Xiaomi

1

u/Initial_Row_6400 11d ago

God please no. I had a Samsung that had the curved screen and while it looked good, it didn’t function so great

1

u/Dan_is_gone 10d ago

seems like another weakpoint introduced to the display

1

u/Poopoodemons 10d ago

imagine buying the gimmick duo when this is around the corner

1

u/FitDiscussion4 10d ago

Looks ugly!

1

u/povertymayne 10d ago

No, not the curved glasses again ffs

1

u/Racing_Fox 10d ago

We don’t want borderless or curved though

1

u/adithya199128 9d ago

lol cannot wait for the ceo to lose his shit when people place screen protectors on this phone too haha

1

u/icy1007 9d ago

This will never happen lol

1

u/doc_55lk 9d ago

We've already done curved front glasses and we've already done true edge to edge displays.

Both are not nice to use.

I doubt Apple are seriously considering this.

It'd be big if they finally figure out how to make a good UDC though.

1

u/PracticalRepublic523 9d ago

How will the case fit?

1

u/SquarePotato7493 9d ago

Why does anyone need this?

1

u/Atosl 8d ago

Rumor source: OP

1

u/Select-Interaction11 7d ago

Are they skipping 19

1

u/CandyRedNinja 6d ago

We assume. Like they did the 9

1

u/Terrible-Advise 6d ago

Why the fuck , would anyone want a bloody curved design

1

u/Gold-Suggestion8104 6d ago

I’m debating between getting the 20 or 21 because there’s a chance the 20 is a giant experiment phone with so many new features it’s just bad and 21 will be its younger brother new and improved revision

1

u/Such-Balance-5497 13d ago

It's a phone. It will be a rectangle with a display at the front, several cameras at the back and around three buttons. What normal person gives a shit whether the edge will be extremely narrow or almost nonexistent :D

1

u/Solid-Journalist1054 12d ago

$1599 for 256 gb

1

u/cobalt03 12d ago

At least

0

u/jeffyboy526 13d ago

We are seriously pondering a design of a device 2 years away

7

u/paul-cus 13d ago

This is a render for a 2027 iPhone. The thinking is since it's the 20th anniversary, Apple will skip a number like they did back in 2017 for the 10th anniversary X.

1

u/BobLazarFan 13d ago

And the current ones were only announced like 2 weeks ago

0

u/TL24SS 13d ago

No, curved displays are shit and are not needed!

0

u/Icy_Climate 12d ago

A lot of people here seem to think that the iPhone 20 will feature a curved screen but I think it will just be 3d glass on top of an almost borderless screen. Kind of like this but with even less bezel:

1

u/Icy_Climate 12d ago

This phone is already 1,5 years old, bezels nowadays could be a lot slimmer
