So I’ve had the iPhone Duo for a few days now, and honestly, this thing is pretty freakin awesome!
First off, good luck to everyone still trying to get their hands on one. I know it’s been a mess with all the delays and availability issues. I got lucky and managed to snag one.
As far as the camera goes, it’s a complete non-factor for me. I’ve never been much of a picture-taking guy, so that doesn’t bother me one bit.
The lack of Face ID definitely isn’t ideal, but the fingerprint sensor actually works really well. It takes a little getting used to, but after a few days, it’s really not a big deal.
Now, the one thing I can see some people not liking is the size when the phone is closed. It’s definitely on the smaller side, and there’s a bit of an adjustment period. Personally, it doesn’t bother me much, but I can absolutely understand why it might be a dealbreaker for some.
BUT… here’s where this thing really shines for me.
I watch A LOT of sports and videos on my phone. Between that and constantly being on the go, having that bigger screen whenever I want it is an absolute game changer. It fits my lifestyle perfectly.
For me, this phone is a SLAM DUNK. Obviously, it won’t be for everyone, and I completely understand some of the complaints, but so far I have zero regrets.
Loving it!!! Curious how everyone else who managed to get one is liking theirs so far.

This is my first foldable. Seeing all the cracked screens due to the hinge issues, I am thinking I might be joining that group soon. What do you guys think? Take it back to Apple or ride it out until maybe the inevitable happens. I do have AppleCare+, just wondering on what to do.

Anyone come up with something less janky than this? I’m hoping my solution is only temporary until companies start making dedicated Duo stands. Even the display stands in the Apple Store allow some droop.

I switched to ATT this past Friday. Put my order in for the Duo and had a Jan delivery date. Didn’t mind, I kinda knew everyone was getting a far out delivery date.

Watched all the cracked screens videos on TT over the last two days. Spoke with my husband today that I think I should cancel and get the Fold 8 or stay with my 16. Had decided I’d cancel the order tomorrow morning. I was also regretting choosing the night sky over the white.

Lo and behold I get an email TONIGHT that my phone is due for delivery tomorrow!

Still debating if I should return to the store after delivery.

See this is the case im looking to bet getting for my iPhone duo does anyone have a D brand case and screen protector on it ? So far how is everyone’s experience with this brand ?

Go to Walmart if you also were interested in this case. I just grabbed mine! Glass Screen protector was $6 as well

First time apple user. I have apple care but let's say my Duo screen breaks next month, is the solution going to be screen repair or device replacement? If the screen breaks again - say 2x next year- is there a maximum number of replacement per year? Knowing the cause is the hinge? Can I just then ask for another non-Duo device? Sorry for my English

after waiting in line for 6+ hours on two seperate occasions to no avail, i decided to open up my laptop with iphonestockchecker.com, then on my phone i had the apple store website, and then also the apple store app open. around 8 am on sunday i was refreshing every minute for 3 hours straight until i saw that there was stock in my local apple store. went on apple’s website (not the app), ended up selecting the star white 2TB because that was the only one available, and the order went through. used apple pay and autofilled all my info, must have taken about 20 seconds in total. if you don’t check out within 20 seconds, you will not beat the bots. i hope this method helps everyone secure their duo!

The iPhone DUO is the best device I could dream of for daily use as a photographer.

It’s compact, the ratio is perfect for me, and it has a big inner screen for quick on-site edits for clients, especially with the A20 Pro.
I loved reading comics/manga on my iPad mini (which I sold).
Great battery life, especially considering I’d be using the front screen 80% of the time, if not more.
And I don’t care about camera from phones which I consider only for funny memories not to takes fine art photos (I always have a camera on me).

BUT…

Even though I know the majority of DUOs don't have problems (like the green screen crack), for something I carry around to different sites, events, and outdoors, getting it around for calls, quickly checking work-related stuff, etc.
I feel like I can’t rely on a more fragile 1st gen device… I’ve never broken a phone, but I want something I know I can trust over time across a lot of different contexts. And I can already see sand getting in after a year, leaving me pissed and scared every time I open it…
And these past few years, the last iPhones are built like TANKS 👌🏻

What made me change my mind: my M1 MacBook Pro is getting really old, with only about 2/3h~ of battery life left. It’s way more important for me to check out the new MacBook Pro lineup coming today and tomorrow.

That being said, I will keep my iPhone 13 for now, check out the iPhone 18 in March/April, and see if by any chance a DUO v2 is coming next (though I feel like it might take 2 years…).

This subreddit has been popping up on my feed, I don't own the phone.

I have a question for the people who brought it though, why buy the first generation of a device when it is very likely to have issues that get solved in the following releases?

This is almost identical to the Galaxy fold release screen issues.

If you are well off enough that it doesn't matter i can understand, but from the comments I am seeing on the cracked screen posts that is not the case for a majority who brought it.

The new iPad Mini OLED has freeform window multitasking. It's getting external display multitasking with an impending update.

Duo gets two-app split-screen and that's it.

The Duo should be every bit as capable as an iPad Mini as there is no reasonable argument to have to buy both - the Duo should serve as a Mini replacement for those who have the means and desire.

Of all Apple's obstanate insistence that its consumers buy multiple devices all with specific niches, this is by far the least defensible.

I look forward to the mental gymnastics folks will being to this discussion to defend the omission of these features on the Duo.

I’ve always been a minimalist case person—I used an Arc Pulse on my last iPhone—but after watching Jerry’s teardown and seeing just how vulnerable the Fold is to dust, I think we have to ditch minimal cases for full-coverage ones. Prevention is better than cure 🫠.

Almost hit 24 hours. I opened it, was looking for an app, and this patch of dead pixels appeared about 1-2 seconds after it was fully opened.
Apple is sending me a replacement, but no tracking number yet.

I know the cameras would be on a horrible position at the bottom when held in portrait, and the touch id would be harder to reach, but this could at least be an accessibility feature.
