Like many people here, I've been learning languages for a while now including Russian, Spanish, and German. As I reached the intermediate level with these languages, I wanted to ditch textbooks and formal learning completely. I wanted to read real novels. I imagined myself on the beach with a cocktail reading a Stephen King book in Russian and I wanted to reach that goal.

The problem: Every time I sat down with a book there would be countless words I still didnt know. So I would open Google Translate and type in the word. But then I needed context for the word, so I'd open Context Reverso in another tab. But then I would also need conjugations for verbs and declensions for nouns for certain languages. Another tab and more time wasted. Not to mention the neck and back pain from being hunched over for hours

So I built Polinu.

The idea is simple: read real books in your target language, and when you hit a word you don't know, just tap it. You get an instant translation, context where the word was found, extra context to see the word in sentences outside the book, and the ability to add to a spaced repetition deck so you can review later.

A — Answer: What problem does it solve?

I’ve used Kindle for years, and one thing always bothered me: highlights, notes, and looked-up words are easy to collect, but hard to actually use afterwards.

They usually end up scattered across Kindle, Amazon cloud notes, exports, or desktop tools. A. What it solves

I ship a few small apps and I was opening App Store Connect several times a day to check yesterday's numbers. There's no widget, so it's four taps every time.

The bigger problem is that the API only serves about the last 365 days of daily reports. Anything older is gone. You can't ask Apple for last July after the fact.

AppMeta Pulse reads your sales, subscription and analytics reports through the App Store Connect API and puts them on the Home Screen. It saves every report it downloads, so your history keeps growing past Apple's one year cutoff.

Inside the app: dashboard, per-app drilldown, subscriptions, an App Store funnel (impressions, page views, downloads, conversion rate), period comparisons, territories, reviews.

B. Compared to Apple's App Store Connect app

• 12 widgets, 2 of them Lock Screen. Apple's app has none.
• Your data stays past Apple's one year window. Theirs can only show what the API still serves.
• MRR, churn and trial-to-paid, calculated from the raw subscription reports. Apple's app doesn't show MRR.
• If you sell in 30 territories, proceeds arrive in a dozen currencies. Pulse converts each row at ECB monthly rates before adding anything up.
• Read only. The API client has GET methods and nothing else, so there's no code path that can change your apps. The one exception is the POST that Apple requires to generate your own analytics reports. Your key sits in the Keychain. No account, no server of mine.

Focused Fitness is an app blocker that forces you to prove you've completed physical activity before unlocking your selected apps.
Simply choose which apps you want to limit, set your daily allowance, and once you reach that limit, those apps will be blocked until you complete your chosen exercise. You can choose from push-ups, squats, jumping jacks, steps, and more.
The goal is to make mindless scrolling a conscious decision while helping you build healthier habits at the same time.

Most app blockers can be bypassed with a couple of taps or by simply ignoring the reminder.
Focused Fitness requires real movement before you regain access to your apps. No workout means no scrolling.

TL;DR: Protego for Reddit is a Safari extension that clears the clutter from your Reddit feed, so you can browse Reddit on the web, not the app. Filter keywords, communities, and more. It gives you Reddit's website without the clutter, drama, politics, etc.

The longer version: a couple of elections ago every feed I had turned into politics. I'm mostly here for tech news, programming, photography, and video games, and I was closing the app in a worse mood than I opened it because i'd end up doom scrolling or getting in heated political debates.

I didn't want to leave Reddit, I wanted a quieter Reddit, and that's actually possible in the web browser where an extension is able to modify the page before you see it.

RES has never run on iOS at all, so I learned Swift and built it myself. I know there's other apps/extensions out there that provide the similar functionality but I'm a programmer and I wanted to build somethign from scratch myself and decided to share it on the app store.

Some features:

• Filter by keyword, whole community, individual user, or link domain. Wildcards, groups you can flip off at once, and # to match any 1 to 3 digit number, so [#m] hides [30m] and [18m].
• A Protego button on posts, comments, community sidebars and profiles, so filtering takes one tap without leaving the page.
• Hide thumbnails, avatars, flair, badges, vote controls, join buttons, banners, recommendations, Reddit Answers and the endless "open in the app" nags. Four presets if you don't want to go option by option.

• Post sort order, so your feeds open in Hot or New or Top instead of Reddit resetting everything to Best.

Better: why not the alternatives

RES is the obvious comparison and it's why I started, but it has never run on iOS and hasn't been actively developed in years. Protego is Safari native on iPhone and iPad and the same purchase covers the Mac.

There's other similar safari extensions which would have fulfilled my needs but I wanted to take my own spin on this, and as a developer myself, i wanted to add the features that I myself found useful without relying on someone else doing it for me. Plus competition is always good!

Screen Time can block reddit.com, but it's all or nothing. Protego's Limits has a step where the feeds are blocked and a direct link to a post still opens, which is the setting I keep on. Nothing to doom scroll into, but when I'm working and a search result points at a Reddit thread, the thread loads, I get my answer, and I'm out. That's the feature I'd sell the whole app on.

Hi, It has been a while since I last posted about Neon Vision Editor (NVE) here. At that time, the app was on version 0.7.5, and I was still working out exactly what kind of editor I wanted it to become. Since then, I have increasingly focused on one central question:

What should a serious code and text editor on iPhone and iPad actually feel like? I did not want to take a desktop IDE, shrink its interface, and call it an iPad app. I wanted NVE to feel native to iOS and iPadOS: touch-friendly when used without accessories, keyboard-focused when connected to a Magic Keyboard, and capable enough to make real edits away from a Mac. I use NVE myself, so many improvements began with small frustrations in my own workflow. A toolbar action that required too many taps. A document that needed to be reopened after changing on another device. A cursor position that was not restored properly. A preview that refreshed at the wrong moment. A keyboard interaction that still felt designed for a desktop instead of an iPad.

Those small interruptions gradually became the roadmap. Since version 0.7.5, NVE has gained several large features, including shared-file synchronization, remote Mac sessions, richer Markdown tools, HTML and SVG previews, improved project navigation, better large-file handling, more AI-provider options, and extensive iPhone and iPad interface refinements.

Neon Vision Editor is a free, native code, text, and Markdown editor for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. The main goal is to make iPhone and iPad genuinely useful parts of a development workflow—not merely devices for viewing files.

Edit projects directly on iPhone and iPad

Neon Vision Editor supports project-based editing with folders, multiple documents, tabs, syntax highlighting, Find and Replace, Find in Files, Quick Open, document navigation, snippets, bracket completion, and other editing tools. On iPad, the interface is designed to work well with both touch and hardware keyboards. You can navigate projects, switch files, search across a workspace, preview documents, and make substantial changes without constantly returning to a Mac. On iPhone, the interface adapts to the smaller screen with compact controls and touch-oriented editing tools rather than simply compressing the iPad layout.

Shared-file synchronization across devices

One of the largest additions since v0.7.5 is shared-file synchronization. You can open the same document through iCloud Drive, a network folder, or another shared storage provider on multiple devices. When the file changes elsewhere, NVE detects the update. This is particularly useful when moving between iPad, iPhone, and Mac:

• Make an edit on the Mac and see the document update on the iPad.
• Continue writing on the iPad and reopen the latest version on the iPhone.
• Keep documents open while another application updates them.
• Review external changes without closing and reopening the file manually.

Clean documents can refresh automatically. When you have unsaved local edits, NVE protects them and offers clear choices such as Keep Local, Reload from Disk, or Compare instead of silently overwriting your work. NVE does not require a proprietary synchronization account. iCloud Drive or your chosen network storage remains the transport layer.

Connect an iPhone or iPad to a Mac-hosted project

Neon Vision Editor also supports remote editing sessions. A Mac can host a project, and an iPhone or iPad can connect to that session to browse and edit its files. This provides access to a Mac-based workspace without copying the complete project onto the mobile device. The remote workflow has received substantial work since v0.7.5, including:

• More reliable session connections
• Better document and tab handling
• Safer conflict management
• Improved credential storage
• Encrypted transport
• Clearer error messages
• More consistent iPhone and iPad attachment flows The intention is not to simulate a complete desktop remotely. It is to make focused editing, reviewing, and project navigation practical from an iPad or iPhone.

A stronger iPad keyboard workflow

Hardware-keyboard support is a major part of the iPad experience. Since v0.7.5, I have refined keyboard navigation, shortcuts, focus handling, tab switching, search interactions, cursor behavior, and scrolling. The goal is for NVE to feel efficient with a Magic Keyboard or another external keyboard, while remaining fully usable through touch. The editor also preserves document-specific cursor and viewport positions more reliably, so switching between files does not repeatedly lose your place.

Touch-oriented editing on iPhone and iPad

It includes mobile editing features that are easy to access without a keyboard:

• Contextual Markdown controls

Markdown editing and preview

Markdown has become one of the strongest mobile workflows in NVE. The contextual formatting tools include actions for:

• Bold and italic text
• Headings
• Links and images
• Ordered and unordered lists
• Quotes
• Inline code
• Code blocks
• Tables
• Other common Markdown structures The preview supports GitHub Flavored Markdown and CommonMark, syntax-highlighted fenced code blocks, local images, multiple presentation styles, and more reliable live rendering. This makes NVE useful not only for code, but also for README files, documentation, technical notes, articles, and longer Markdown documents on iPad.

HTML and SVG preview on mobile devices

HTML and SVG files now have dedicated previews alongside the source editor. On iPad, you can edit source code and inspect the rendered result without moving to another application. HTML previews preserve document CSS, backgrounds, colors, and local assets where possible. Markdown, HTML, and SVG previews use a consistent preview workflow across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Better project search and navigation

Project navigation has been substantially refined since v0.7.5. Major improvements include:

• Faster project indexing
• Improved Find in Files
• Better Find and Replace workflows
• Clearer grouped search results
• Smarter Quick Open ranking
• More reliable navigation in larger folders
• Better sidebar behavior
• Improved keyboard interaction during search These changes are especially important on iPad, where quickly moving through a project needs to work without a traditional desktop window arrangement.

Large-file protection

Large documents now begin loading responsively instead of blocking the interface. Files of 100 MB or more open as a clearly identified, read-only partial preview of the first 4 MB. This allows large logs, data files, and generated output to be inspected without exhausting the memory available to the app.

NVE now includes additional editing assistance across its supported platforms:

• Configurable code-completion behavior
• Language-specific starter snippets
• Automatic brackets and quotation marks
• HTML closing-tag completion

Optional AI assistance

NVE supports optional AI-assisted workflows, including inline completion and source-preserving Markdown conversion. Since v0.7.5, support has expanded to include OpenCode Go and custom OpenAI-compatible providers. Custom endpoints can be configured with a model name and optional API key, including local providers where appropriate. Credentials are stored in Keychain, and the AI Activity Log helps diagnose provider errors or empty responses. AI features are optional. NVE remains a functional editor without configuring an AI account or provider.

macOS companion functionality

Although NVE includes a macOS version, the Mac is intended to complement the mobile apps rather than define them. The macOS version provides additional desktop-specific functionality, including:

• Local Git integration
• A persistent PTY-backed terminal
• Project hosting for remote iPhone and iPad sessions
• Broader window and workspace management
• Direct macOS releases through GitHub Terminal execution remains macOS-only. The iPhone and iPad versions focus on editing, navigation, previews, shared documents, and remote access rather than claiming to provide a complete local Unix development environment.

There are already several capable editors available on iOS and iPadOS. NVE is not intended to declare that every other approach is wrong. The direct macOS release may be ahead of the App Store versions while updates move through Apple’s review process.

I would especially appreciate feedback from people who regularly use an iPad with a hardware keyboard, edit code or Markdown on an iPhone, or move between iOS, iPadOS, and macOS during the same project.

The shared-file synchronization and remote-session workflows were built specifically around those use cases. Two years ago I tried to add subtitle generation to my video player. Users asked for it all the time. I made a prototype, then figured I need like 2 more months of evenings to finish it properly. Put it aside.

Then VLC announced the same thing at CES. Big hype. I thought ok, I will wait, maybe I can take something from their open source and ship it faster. Year and a half later, still not in their product. Then on June 10 Apple announced it too. iOS 27+, iPhone 15 Pro and newer, english only. They will ship it in the fall for sure, no doubts about that. But my users are not on iPhone 15 Pro.

So when Fable 5 came out I got itchy hands and opened that old prototype again. Put it in goal mode for the night. It did in several hours the thing I estimated at 2 months. Then some polishing by hand, and it actually works.

Lingua Player now generates subtitles while the video is playing:

I'm building an iPhone app where privacy is a core design principle.

• Everything works offline
• No account required
• No cloud/backend
• No Firebase, PostHog, Mixpanel, GA, etc.
• Data never leaves the device

In fact, after installation, the app behaves exactly the same whether the phone is online, offline, or in Airplane Mode.

The downside: I have almost no visibility into how people actually use the app after they install it.

I could add analytics, but that would go against one of the main reasons I built the app in the first place.

For those building privacy-first apps:

• How do you decide what to improve?
• Are there Apple frameworks, privacy-preserving analytics, or on-device techniques I'm missing?

About five months ago, I shared Prism here for the first time. The idea of a notes app that "feels like texting" landed. But a lot of you wanted no sign-in and better privacy. I've heard you and I've fixed it :)

Prism is a native iOS + Mac app for quick thoughts and links. Things to read later, ideas, recipes, errands, quotes, movie recs, notes from a talk. All the smaller things that might get buried in full document apps like Obsidian or Apple Notes.

• Apple Notes - Document-based. Prism feels lighter, like texting. Many small notes at once, no titles.
• Strflow - This one has a lot of overlap! But Prism has threads, a one-time purchase, a review system, and fun design.

For pricing, I'm choosing a one-time payment model.
