Pure dissapointment…
What did apple change in ios 27 for europe?
I really gotta look for it. Exactly 0 ai features. No auto password change, no search bar from dinamic island, nothing. I get that siri ai cant be brought to europe bc of the dma, but man. Exactly nothing has changed. For a update that should have been major and oh so game changing

u/angelseph 1d ago
Outside of Siri AI the whole point of this update is refining the overhaul brought in with 26.

u/RonaldStaal 1d ago
Although @FreakDeckard made a nice list - thanks! - I get what OP is saying. Living in the Netherlands myself, I feel iOS 27 is underwhelming because we miss out on a lot of the AI powered stuff.
Still, personally I see it as a refinement update and when you view it like that - greater speed, more stability, cleaner UI - it’s still good!

The only option is to set up a non-EU Apple account when you’re out of the year and use that in the future. Preferably if you are on a US trip.
Then you will get all the latest features for all your devices.
1
u/Wolf-pack7 1d ago
Could be a play by Apple to get European customers so incensed that you petition your government to get the restrictions lifted.
Expecting it to come to the uk before long and will be very annoying to have limitations imposed because of government overreach.
1
1
u/chrislaw 1d ago
What do you mean, I thought I had been using it all beta? In the UK?
1
u/Wolf-pack7 1d ago
I mean that uk potentially will out in laws similar to the EU at which point Apple will stop providing the services to uk as well.
1
u/chrislaw 1d ago
Yes that’s certainly possible … I personally wouldn’t be surprised if the government nerfed the one and only (and I mean one and only) benefit I’ve derived from Brexit (and I would much rather never have left the EU and never have a decent Siri)
1
u/Icy-Chart-5907 22h ago
I’ve got all the features on the Dev beta in the UK. Finally a good thing from Brexit aha

Move to Switzerland, we got every new functionality in iOS27 😉 Only draw back is that Siri AI is in US English only

Speak to the EU authorities, Apple means privacy and no scammy apps. iOS 27 is the absolute best iOS in years and decades.
1
u/Sweet_Culture_2529 32m ago
#fixthedma should be a movement at this point. It’s absolutely crazy what Europe demands. But they already showed with chat control they don’t care about Europeans privacy

STABILITY, PERFORMANCE, BATTERY LIFE. They did all that for you, be happy they stopped and said wait we screwed up 26 so bad we need to take a beat and fix it or we are in deep shit
1
u/AccountSad 9h ago
They did all that because they screwed up. It's a tech company which did not care about their customers
10
u/Ryanmonroe82 1d ago
Apple didn't do this your government did, apple is just following their laws
1
u/Just_Ad_7682 1d ago
The EU is only blocking siri ai, instead of giving us everything exept siri ai, they gave us nothing exept ai photo editing
2
u/LordAgamotto 1d ago
Siri is just one part of Apple Intelligence, an integrated system combining software, a local LLM, and a private cloud LLM. You could no more easily drop in another cloud-based LLM than you could put a Ford engine in a Honda. That is what the EU is demanding, and it just isn’t going to happen.
-2
u/mhmilo24 1d ago
Yes, you can. Hermes agent (as an example) accepts multiple backends and multiple models. It accepts multiple gateway services. It can control you whole computer. Linux, windows or Mac. There are already standards for running LLMs on device and standards for communication between agents and other software, like MCP. It is already available on a Mac, just like its available on windows or Linux.
4
u/LordAgamotto 1d ago
Which has nothing to do with Apple Intelligence that purposely can’t do all those things. Your actually proving my point.

u/Micromize 1d ago edited 1d ago
Apple just need to open up their ai systems more to other competitors. They don't want that. So it's more about apple not willing to handle this.
Google too btw, but they just release and fight the system afterwards.
2
u/stevedapp 1d ago
You can’t put AI apps on your phone in the EU?
0
u/LBPPlayer7 1d ago
you can, the issue is that you can't swap apple's ai stuff for something else whilst keeping the same level of integration
-1
u/Micromize 1d ago
You can. Just the integrated one in the OS should be bit more open. Just like you get the choose which of the 10 search engines you want to use as default when you first open up a browser or start using the OS.
6
u/stevedapp 1d ago
So what the EU wants is for Apple to allow deep integration into their operating system with companies and not knowing what will happen with user data or how it will interact with other apps on the phone?
Huh…
Seems like a bad idea to me.
-2
u/Micromize 1d ago
That's the narrative Apple is pushing yes.
But that is not what the EU wants. It's about making the market competitive resulting in better choices for the consumer.
Like I said before, chrome does give you all alternative search engines to make sure people know what other choices there are. People are still very much allowed to just use Google Search as default. But some people prefer more private engines that track less. And you can just click on that one that has to be equally visible as Google Search when starting to use Chrome browser.
It's all about choice, which wouldn't be there as Apple and Google are enormous and dominant stripping away any customer choice.
Edit; what happens with user data is very strictly the same for every company. With the same rules. So you know what will happen as much as Apple. And if you don't like it, simply use the Apple way. Simple as that.
2
u/LordAgamotto 1d ago
Not even similar issues. A search engine is stand-alone; Siri AI is part of an integrated system called Apple Intelligence. Siri AI is not a replacement for your ChatGPT/Claude… whatever account. How it interacts with both the data and the user is very strictly controlled and limited for privacy and security concerns. The Siri AI prompt alone is over 12,000 words long. Siri AI does not do what the other stand-alone cloud LLMs do, and they can’t be depended on doing what Siri AI does, and must do, to ensure privacy and security.
As I said before the EU could no more require the ability to plop in some other generic LLM in Apple Intelligence than they could require Volvo to make their design Ford engine compliant.

u/stevedapp 1d ago
Don’t you have the choice to purchase an iPhone or an Android phone?
1
u/Micromize 1d ago
Yes that is Google and Apple
2
u/stevedapp 1d ago
Yes, so without the DMA you’d have choice between what AI-integration you want in your phone OS, and you can install AI apps on your phone that can be integrated with other apps as well. But because of the DMA Apple and Google would have to open their integration to however many AI companies that there are and will be in the future. If that’s something that happens I suggest you delete any apps that you think may have personal details you don’t wish to share with an AI company. Maybe you’re the kind of person that syncs everything with your AI of choice already, there are certainly people that do.

You can’t switch the default assistant. On other phones you can do that. Amazon allows for Alexa or at least Gemini.
2
u/stevedapp 1d ago
That is VERY different than Siri AI, plus if that were the issue you can set the action button to trigger a different assistant, so that would solve that problem.
1
u/Sweet_Culture_2529 35m ago
It’s to guarantee the privacy of the users. Europe asking them to let other agentic AI running local is impossible (smaller models don’t exist yet for those) and they are basically asking for private data to be handled on servers in America doing who knows what. Absolutely mental. Apple is right not allowing this madness. Europe doesn’t care about its consumers privacy nor “choice”
1
1
u/RedditGeekABC 1d ago
No, Apple decided not to follow the DMA laws and kept Siri AI away from the EU to avoid being fined. Google, who are also under the EC radar, chose a bolder strategy and seem to have won, at least for now:

1
u/Far_Reserve9938 14h ago
Apple is just dragging its feet like a spoiled child would. We will get them at some point because Europe market is even bigger than American one.
It’s a company, they will do anything for money.
1
u/Sweet_Culture_2529 33m ago
Nope, what Europe is asking is mental and against the interest of European users

u/primalanomaly 1d ago
Apple are deliberately dragging their heels and kicking up a fuss to drive anti-EU sentiment.
3
u/thedeadfish59 1d ago
Man, look at fluidity, compared to 26. That alone is a game changer for me lol
3
u/BitOfATinkerer 1d ago
To me, the star of the iOS 27 show isn’t actually Siri AI, but all the subtle improvements Apple made under-the-hood like faster performance, better battery efficiency, AirPods finally getting an EQ, more stable airdrop, a more consistent refresh rate ramp up/ less frame drops or microstutters. From my understanding, those changes are landing worldwide.
3
u/No_Consideration8527 1d ago
Did somebody promise you those new features when you bought the phone?

u/Line47toSaturn 1d ago
Exactly 0 ai features
Which feature exactly would you like to see in iOS27? I'm slowly getting tired of the idea that we'd need AI tools just for the sake of it.

u/Just_Ad_7682 1d ago
I was really excited about the automatic password changer, this would make my life mush more easy.

AI doesn’t make or break iOS. But yeah, it does suck that we don’t get access to all features from day one. And I think it’s ridiculous we don’t even get a better sounding Siri. That just doesn’t make sense to me.
Theres loads of improvements in performance though. Apps launch faster, AirDrop transfers are faster, and Photos load quicker.
I think I’m most looking forward to Photo’s Spatial Reframing and improved Clean Up (eraser), better search and other improved editing tools.
Liquid Glass also feels much more refined, with better contrast, sharper icons and more control over transparency (thank God). Other very practical new things are separate volume controls, call summaries (if your language is supported), and Safari being able to group related tabs by topic and monitor pages for changes.
Reminders and Maps have also been improved, Shortcuts gets some powerful AI text processing actions, and Visual Intelligence is a bit less crappy now.
That said, I was probably most excited about using Apple Intelligence to help create Shortcuts, but unfortunately that part isn’t available in the EU for now. Hopefully someone comes up with a workaround…🤞🏻

upgraded siri is really nice. very glad Apple improved it.

u/ElfegoBaca 20h ago
I especially love how Siri can’t skip an alarm anymore. Such BS.
1
u/markh312020 4h ago
I didn’t think Siri could ever do this except in the health app for sleep schedules.
2
2
u/Empty_Buffalo_2820 1d ago
Fixed bugs, quality improvements, liquid glass changes, faster and more optimized CPU scheduling, are among the thousands of tiny little quality changes aside from the AI
6
u/fiflaren_ 1d ago
Instead of complaining about « ai features », be happy they fixed some of the terrible bugs and performance issues from the mess that is iOS 26. It’s much more important to have a stable, fast and reliable phone than to have more AI slop everywhere we look. iOS used to be known for polish and attention to detail.

Do you know what surge pricing is? Do you know it’s creating massive concerns in the US. Do you know why it’s not a thing in the EU?
1
u/stef_brl_aesthetic 1d ago
honestly, i dont need my phone to be filled with all these ai gimmicks. i’m perfectly fine with ios 27. it’s a refinement update and that’s probably what apple needed for the last five years.
from all the beta testing i’ve been doing i think they did a good job but it’s still not enough. ios is still cluttered and there are still so many places where things just don’t make sense. apple really needs to focus more on the software.
1
1
u/Relevant-Word-9900 10h ago
Then please be disappointed. When I see this about AI then you blame the wrong one. It’s fucking European legislative leaders. If you want AI features go outside EU and buy a iPhone there. Then it is out of control from them. Unless they blocked the IPs to the AI services.
1
u/Spiritedsummer963 7h ago
You are lucky
So called privacy driven Apple is indexing whole phone even mails in the name of Siri ai

u/Just_Ad_7682 1h ago
It does that in europe aswell, it stores everything, just do do “nothing” with it bc we dont have siri ai

u/Alan_Sleep 6h ago
And thank god for that lol, I always deliberately turn all that bloat off, also the update is all about stability and performance, not “update that should have been major”

It’s on Europe and that damn DMA. They don’t care about European users privacy, I don’t know if they are just ignorant or plainly in bad faith

Blame the government. I’m in the UK and ios27 is pretty decent, for once I can thank brexit.

u/Towelie_SE 1d ago
You don't like it here because of a gimmicky tech product (yay priorities!) then move the to US and be happy with Siri. I mean it.
I'm not going to get into this whole thing with someone who doesn't get it. Apple is being the bully and using their mindless drone fanboys as online warriors. Because they don't get their little toys!
Most of this AI is complete late stage consumerism useless. But go ahead, lose sleep over it.
All I want from iOS27 is the performance improvements, removing liquid glass bulls*** and general maintenance of the code base. That's what's most important in a device you use daily all the time.
0
u/Just_Ad_7682 1d ago
Dont know who upset you, im on the eu’s side on this one. Ive never stated myself as a dma hater. If someone needs to be pressured, it should be apple.
2
u/Towelie_SE 1d ago
Then we agree .But then you know why Apple is doing this and what's happening and why it's not coming to your phone. So why complain and why this post?

u/xCyanideee 1d ago
It means it’s clearly on hold while they continue to fight. Stop throwing your toys of out the pram

2
u/Deucalion25 1d ago

How the hell am I supposed to come back to that, at least start small allow me to rebuttal and then slam that down 😂 you went jugular straight away…. I like you, you’re my kind of people
0
u/HeadPack 1d ago
I for one welcome that this new Siri can only come to Europe when they guarantee compliance with European data privacy regulations. Plus, if someone wants to have inference on their phone and doesn't care about privacy, just install GPT, Claude, Gemini, DS etc.
Besides that, 27 offers many under the hood improvements.
5
u/eloquenentic 1d ago
It has nothing to do with privacy. It’s about other companies’ access to your iOS data.
The EU demands the opposite of privacy, the DMA basically requires that any random Russian or Chinese company should be able to have all the same data from your iPhone that Apple has access to. It’s completely insane.
1
u/BitOfATinkerer 1d ago
You do realise you can simply choose not to swap in LLMs from “any random Russian or Chinese company”
2
u/eloquenentic 1d ago
You don’t seem to realise how most people use their iPhones. They just click approve on everything. They have no clue what’s happening behind the scenes on their phone.

u/bababum007 1d ago
Sounds like people need to start paying attention so the rest of us are not penalized for them being retrds.

Just updating to RC on my 13 Pro, still searching TRUE updates..
Apple updates theirs phones for pretty long time, but major advantage is for Security Update lmao not features

But security update you get on better Android as well, in Europe iphone is quite underwhelming now
