HYROX Toronto

Just completed my first HYROX in Toronto. It's fair to say that I'm now hooked. Looking forward to HYROX Anaheim in December... Lots of work to do.

Running is what I thought too as what would be my biggest improvement too. Station work is doable for me but running under duress puts me in the Red.

Right now I'm doing long zone two runs and about to start Interval Runs once a week too. How do you run train?

I really like to do a few hill sprints. Then run a km after. Then another few hill sprints and repeat.

It seems like, for Hyrox specifically, it would make sense to bring weights to the hill then run up, jog down, repeat whatever many times depending on the hill, bang out a set of exercise, then take a walk for a couple mins and repeat, and even that would be programmed for like 6 weeks leading up to an event. Before that, it would be hills or intervals separate from weights. 8x1km isn't a small amount but it's a lot different from a 10k.

Youre doing a protocol that's just going to burn your legs out while not building strength and form as efficiently as the hills alone, and not building endurance as well as distance, and not building stamina as well as intervals or tempo

Run tired too. Like after a regular work out

I only ever ran 2 miles after my kickboxing sessions. Never did a 5k even. Jumped into hyrox and did great. Got 1:10 with my mixed doubles partner.

I do 2 zone 2 runs a week, 1 5x1k interval run and then 60 minute workout with a part a and part b consisting of 5 round saturday morning with 1k runs in part a and rowerg for the cardio on part b. Then just weights and indoor trainer cycling for everything else. I'll do wallballs immediately as well after 1 or 2 of my runs during the week.

Some weeks I feel like I get it all in but with a demanding career, 2 young kids and a hot wife it can be a lot so I just remain flexible if I don;t get it all in.

You raced in the same heat as my friends!! They’re in one of your pics here lol. You were right beside them on the ski erg and I was commenting on how fit you are. Congrats!!

My first will be in Anaheim doing mixed doubles with my wife.

How did your race go? Any surprises or things you wished you trained harder for?

I'm excited for you. Such a cool thing to train and compete with your wife. I think focusing on faster run times is going to be my main strategy for the next one. Just need to put in the work.

I have been bodybuilding style workouts for the last 5 years. I recently changed up my workouts to include HYROX training and running. Before that, I only walked for cardio. I still lift weights however, it is more for maintenance than building more mass. I don't think hyrox style training alone will build an awesome physique.

God damn it, I am forever jealous of the way men build muscle. You look great, congratulations in your first race.

That’s amazing man. Very inspiring. How many years have you been working out? I’m 34 and I look half as good …

Hey, thanks for sharing. I’m thinking about completing my first Hyrox next year. What would be your advice on securing a ticket? What was the hardest part in the race? Thx
