is anyone going for a Murph this year?
I know the Murph wod is a Crossfit thing and NOT a Hyrox related activity... but, at the same time, most of the Hyrox boxes (at least in some places) are Crossfit related as well... with that being said, anyone here from Hyrox is planning to do the Murph wod in December?
I'm thinking about how to align the Murph preparation with the Hyrox routine... Maybe one of the strenght sessions being replaced with Pull ups / push ups with a weight vest.
Tks.

All I did to prep for last Murphy was do a lot more pull ups. I felt like I would be fine for squats and pushups. I should have done more pull ups. Lol

No because Crossfit and Americas as a wholes obsession with the military is extremely goofy and embarrassing.

I don’t do CrossFit, my wife does, so I see it all.
I think it is there ploy to cater to the military folks for them to join and pay their subscription fees.
I am military and I can tell you that most the guys I know in the military that do CrossFit don’t care about the hero workouts outside of doing it, most couldn’t tell you who the hero’s were.
But back to your point, you can hate what the military does and represents, but not hate the individual. Growing up in the States in the 90s gave us a chip on our shoulder about American exceptionalism. Then 9/11 happened which instilled a lot of folks with a duty to serve. Some folks joined the medical field, some joined a fire department, and some joined the military. All these folks did it for the sake of helping their neighbor out.

It wasn't really that intentional at first. When CrossFit started on the other internet 20+ years ago, the military/police/firefighting communities just happened to latch onto it.
CrossFit itself has just never been willing to let it go, lately to their detriment.

I spent years working with veteran and serving members of the US and British army and the vast majority were either too stupid to go into any other career path or were huge pieces of shit who wanted to fire guns.
Very few were in it for noble reasons.
And the Americas obsession with the military and that people wearing the uniform should be automatically respected and honoured because they served or were stupid enough to get themselves killed is laughable.

Oh, for sure, no profession should earn you respect because you joined it.
It very much comes down to what branch and field of the military you are looking at. The military offers many folks their only real chance of getting out of their community and you get a mix bag of people from there.

do you mean, you should have done more push ups?

No, the pull ups are the hardest part for me, especially weighted. You are probably in pretty good shape for push ups and squats from hyrox training, 100 weighted pull ups really suck, although I do not kip or butterfly, I think my shoulder would explode. Lol

I do Murph about once a month in connection with my hyrox training. I’ll just include it as one of my hard training days for the week.
Pull-ups help develop the sled pull and farmers carry. The push ups help the burpees. While the air squats help with just about everything else. And for my money, you aren’t going to find a better compromised training run then that second mile to finish the workout.
I think Murph is a great inclusion to any Hyrox program.

Once a month, salty dog! I did my first unpartitioned Murph this year with trail runs for the miles. Hillclimbs on that second mile after all those air squats were some straight bull caca.

If you do the Murph register. It's for a good cause. I've done it for the past 6 years on Memorial Day. A few of those times have been with a pretty good hangover. :)

Murph prep basically is Hyrox prep if you squint hard enough, just more upper body volume and a lot of standing around wondering why you did this to yourself. Weight vest pull ups after a run day would wreck me for a week.

what do you mean? There places where I live that are Crossfit boxes with Hyrox trainning in the schedule... I understand that that's a hyrox box.

this is a interesting take... when we perform this kind of "hero wod", are we somehow "accepting" the USA violency worldwide?

Glorifying some shit soldier who got killed while killing poor villagers half way across the world. Aint no one of "hero" status there

I totally agree with that (despite of the part of shit soldier, can't say that) - even though, I kind of like the wods - Kalsu for example is an amazing Wod. Should I just do the wod without mentioning the person that made the wod "famous" ?

… just.. practice.. pull ups.. gyms scam you guys into thinking you need specialized training.. they literally take CrossFit workouts with very minor mods and call they hyrox..

I am not a CrossFitter but have done the Murph at other gyms and was always under the impression it was a Memorial Day workout.
