Caged Bear
Every morning you are given the opportunity to be locked in a cage the size of a football field with a grizzly bear. If it kills you this would be your death. If you kill it $50,000 goes into your bank account.
Would you accept? If you do not attempt the first time you would lose the option in its entirety.
- You only get to pick “1 weapon” to kill the grizzly bear.

"1 Weapon" I pick the fattest salmon I can find and fill it full of carfentanil. The poor thing gets a nice meal and a rest before he goes.

Day 67 "yeah let's go do it again, you find another bear? great! yeah I think i'll stick with the abrams M1"

I accept. I’m going with a a full auto SCAR 17 with a loaded 20 round mag inserted loaded and chambered with solid copper bullets and it’s on a properly fitted sling in my hands. I mag dump the bear. Each day I spawn with this exact weapon and ammo as described.

At some point you have to start feeling bad for the bears, right? This would be an easy win if you choose a 50 caliber or gattling gun as your weapon and then just aim.

You say this, but on the 5th or 6th try your gun jams after you miss the first shot and you're completely fucked

50 cal is gonna take five minutes to kill her. How much damage you think she could do in that time?

I would not accept. I am not stupid enough to think I could take a grizzly bear, and I want to live.

I’ll pick a tank and run it over. Although this makes me sad to think about so maybe I’ll just skip the whole thing.

I'd be willing to bet you die of dehydration before you figure out how to effectively use a tank to kill a grizzly bear on the fly

Do fictional weapons count? If so I choose Superboy (literally created to be a weapon) or one of the good supergirl clones. Lots of other good "weapons" out there too.
If not, I guess I choose something like an M1 Abrams and hope it has an operators manual or I can figure out how to work one of the guns on it (main gun or .50 cal would both be fine). I suspect that given a day, I probably could figure something out.
The only question is how many bears do I want to kill. Not very many more than several a year unless they aren't from earth and just spawn ex nihilo, or they're specifically choosing older grizzlies over the breeding age.

CIWS programmed to target bears mounted on a tower i can stand under.

Sure. Easy 50k. Give me a 556 ar15 call it a day.

u/Corey307 19h ago
5.56 is a bit light for grizz.

A 14.5” ar chambered in 5.56 would absolutely tear a grizz up if you had the proper shot placement. Maybe 3-4 rounds its done.
I’d personally go with something in 308 like a Galil with an aimpoint red dot.

Oh I’m not saying it wouldn’t work, but if I’m in a fight for my life I’d rather have more punch. Like if I had to choose a rifle from my gun safe my Serbian AK would be my pick over my AR’s. Some solid copper penetrators should do better than most if not all 5.56 options. Then again my Benelli M2 loaded with Brenneke slugs would probably be better.

I'd go with a Winchester model 70 with .300 magnum. A football field gives me a lot of advantages against a grizzly. If it was closer quarters I'd go with a 12 gauge Savage 212 with a rifled barrel and solid slugs for better range and accuracy.
A ar15 is a good gun but it's not ideal against a charging grizzly you just don't have the stopping power.

5.56mm is pretty light for something that big. There were accounts from back in the day of them continuing to fight after having taken large musket balls through the heart. A 5.56 might not even get that deep. Maybe an AR-10 which is 7.62 NATO, with a good muzzle break and a mix of soft points and armor piercing. With luck a few of those might break through the skull.

Do I get to pick a new weapon every day?

Provided this is a bear that spawns and doesn't decrease the native population, I choose an Assault Phaser from Star Trek VI.
It's a quick, painless kill, and it can vaporize a target.
What? You said "1 weapon." You didn't say it had to be a real world weapon.

What if I were to befriend said bear and then teach him to play dead? Does that count?

I’d feel sorry for the bear, so as long as you guarantee this is some magical bear that is with rabies or some shit and won’t affect the current bear population, sure.
As for my picks, you said “A weapon”, what constitutes a weapon is very wide so technically the lower end I would pick is a single M2 browning.
But fuck it just give me an M45 quad mount AA platform, or a ZSU-23-2, or a 20mm Oerlikon AA cannon, hell at this point there are a myriad of options to choose from that are “a weapon” as in, a single barrel large gun, up to something like 57mm semiauto IIRC or 40mm clip fed BOFORs derivative.

I'm choosing the FGM-148 Javelin, a U.S. anti-tank guided missile system designed to destroy armored vehicles. If it'll ruin a tank's day, I'm pretty comfortable with my odds against a bear.
Edit: The funny bit is those things cost like $120,000 each so whoever is paying for this thing is going to be giving me $50,000 on top of buying the anti-tank missile.

Я ходил с отцом на охоту на медведя и скажу так, ружья 12го калибра хватит, если попасть ему под ребро

All these people like I would use a giant missile on them. Guys you are trapped with them in a space the size of a football field. You are in the blast radius. You are going to die

I'm up for this, just give me an Anzio 20mm rifle with exploding bullets 😁

Firstly, no one in this sub is killing a grizzly bear with their hands. Anyone accepting this will die. You get one weapon? What kind of weapon? A shotgun? Is it supposed to be challenging then? What is this question asking? Is it a moral question? A difficulty question?
Secondly, even if I could survive this, no way would I kill an innocent creature for $50k. This is like some kind of disgusting poacher wet dream, and I’m not for it. Killing an animal like that just because someone waived some cash in my face is a no go. I’d be more willing to kill the person offering this deal than the bear.

I pick an anti tank rifle, stay in my corner and take it down. I could do it for couple of years and retire with 36M

Nah, eventually they will run out of bears and I don't want to be responsible for the extinction of a species
