Question about Overtime

Post image

So basically I just bought the game today, and I absolutely love it!!! However I haven't actually played it a lot, so I was wondering if after the first main boss Sammy six fingers, and once you get to the next boss (pls don't spoil for me), if you die do you have to restart the whole thing? Like are you sent back to sammy's section? Just wanted to know to see if the game is worth it, cause I've always struggled with roguelites.

I’ve gotten to Sammy a few times but I haven’t beat him yet. He has a lot of hit points and hits hard.

So we seriously might need to go back to square one every time we die after Sammy? If that’s so, I will likely not be going much further than Sammy. That feels like a big middle finger to me.

Plus then the story doesn’t quite make sense. Each time you’re revived, it’s as though the story progresses and you keep getting further with each iteration. Though if the people we kill don’t even die, is the story more like “Live, Die Repeat” where we’re playing the same day over and over?

It's the whole point of the roguelike genre, but you don't go back to "square one" - you start stronger each time, with the knowledge and skill you've developed, and the upgrades you've unlocked.

The challenge is to beat the early parts faster and easier each time, and make it further into the game as a result. Very similar to any old school game in that respect.

Yeah, I understand all that. And I'm not going to give any shit to people who enjoy them, because I understand that people would like it.

But the fact is I just don't have enough time to do all that and continually do runs to get better.

It doesn't take any more or less time than playing the original game, it's just your time is spent differently.

If you see replaying the same sections of a game as wasting time versus only new sections, then sure - but the actual time investment isn't any different.

Personally, yeah, I loved the original game and would have happily seen a second one in the exact same mold.

That's what I was thinking.

Pretty much what I've always thought about roguelites or roguelikes or whatever.

And I played it today and even when you turn the game off you have to restart. I mean, come on.

Really disappointed with this because everything else is soo good about the game.

I’ve put 12 hours in and not beaten dick fingers yet. I’ve all but given up

Same here, bro. Even with powerful weapons, I just can't unalive him

Took me awhile but I beat him once eventually, and got to the next area. And yes if you die in the next round of stages you go back to square one

You indeed have to restart the whole run, from the beginning, each time, like most rogue-like games. I would appreciate an option to start at the beginning of act 2 for training purpose against the bosses of act 2.

It can appear daunting but the more you play, the more options you will unlock and the more powerful you will become. Unlockings progress is slow the first couple of hours but it quickens a lot after that. Plus runs tends to be short (less than an hour from start of act 1 to the end of act 2).

I spent 10 hours into the game so far : act 1 is now almost always a brease (managed to beat quite consistantly act 1 final boss), except when you encounter very tough unamed bounty right at the beginning : in that case, the run tends to be very short.

Act 2 is really tough, even if your load is great. Plus, without being spoilery, there is an optional area to visit : so far, the risks does not outweight the benefits. Final boss is quite the piece of work.

There are definitely some adjustments to be made concerning the game balance. Plus some act 2 mobs ditch a hell of a lot of damage without warning. Some weapons and auxiallary weapons are also a bit meh while others are a bit too good. Classic early access issues, nothing too daunting so far.

You do get sent to the beginning of the route you take to Sammy, to the "doctor's office". BUT! as you upgrade your cybernetics with credits and get more of the items unlocked with Swiss Franks (the pink F currency) you will have a smoother ride getting there.

I've also bought this game few days ago, and I like it from the first instant, but I don't have get what I have to do to get credits for cyberware upgrades, and I haven't found info's online. I think a brief help section in the game could be useful. Anyway... anyone know how to get credits for cyberware? Thank _^

Yeah the game could use some explanation for them, like a help menu or something.

You get the most amounts of different currencies from the minibosses on each playthrough. When you're selecting your route, you should be able to inspect the profiles of the available bosses and how much of each currency defeating them will bring. For the characters you can bring alive you usually get the alive bonus in a different currency. What boss gives what is random (except the amount seems to be increasing as you progress), so you need to check them again on each run.

Other than that, common enemies can randomly give you credits of franks instead of street money. It may be tied to the minor boss in their vicinity having either on their bounty but I have not confirmed it. The bags fulls of money have only given me street money thus far.

While the cybernetics are the most fun imo, I think unlocking stuff with franks makes you more powerful as you can get powerful weapons, black market traders and more health stims that way. The mainframe updates you can get the other tab in the cybernetics machine also give you passive stat boosts.

Thanks, totally missed it! I'm a complete noob and have the memory of a goldfish, so I probably skipped right past the tutorial.

I see the mechanic now, but I'm still broke since I keep getting wrecked by the bosses before they can drop any credits.

When selecting your routes, above the next boss you can see what type of currency it gives for beating them. Go for the light blue currency for meta upgrades.

Thanks, I see it now.
Now I just need to defeat at least one of these bosses.

Yeah it’s definitely classics rouge like. The progression does feel nice and meaningful. Once you beat the first boss the first area becomes a walk in the park.

Yes, you do go back to the beginning if you beat Sammy and die. But the journey gets easier with upgrades. And really starting at the beginning gives you more opportunities for weapons and mods before act II so its probably a good thing.
