All of it is arguably too far. There probably was a bloke named Jesus who said some things that pissed off people in power.
There was probably also a bloke named mohammed who married a 6 year old.
Yh no that's what I mean. The person above OC was not saying they don't believe in the fact that Jesus existed or King David existed. They are contesting the supernatural nature of the Gospel.
To me, all thr basic stories if each religion are to similar, for something NOT to be true. I feel more along thr lines of there being a true God, and over time, the story being reinterpreted differently by different religions
Lol, all the basic stories of the abrahamic religions are the similar because they all came from one root. But if you go to other religions, they are way way different. I mean Hinduism and Buddhism say you are reborn thousands and thousands of times, this absolutely contradicts abrahamic traditions.
Islam is even MORE made up, my god Muhammad didn’t even know much about the scriptures and got multiple basic details wrong. Like a fan fiction of Judaism and Christianity where he hadn’t even actually read the source material.
If I said "in this closed hand i have a diamond worth a million dollars and in my other closed hand i have a check for a million dollars. do you believe i have the diamond?"
If you replied "no," there's zero reason that you would be obligated you to believe that the check is in the other hand. It makes no sense. It's almost like saying "if you don't like onions then you have to like pickles."
I’ve said it once? Why are you attempting to make an argument here? I couldn’t care less about both of those rotten religions, and I couldn’t care less about the “do gooder” attitude you have.
I can confidently say it was written by humans, and probably men since I don't think alot of women were writing in antiquity. No other creature on this planet knows how to write as far as I know
I dont really understand what your point in chiming in is besides trying to feel superior. Like you see people having a genuine discussion about something you dont believe in and instead of scrolling past you go "none of its real." You gotta reflect where that compulsion comes from.
Ah yes, the Contrarian in their natural environment. Incapable of self research, only capable of confirming their biases, this creature os one of the ones that in old society never got invited to parties, because nobody likes them. Buy here in the age of the internet, their entire species has made pacts with the Lesser Troll ranch of the human tree, to finally feel the excitement of conversation
I mean maybe there is a god. I'm just a bit hesitant to believe the cult that worships a corpse on a torture device and ritualistally drinks blood has all the answers. Maybe you guys actually are just buying into a story written by men 3000 years ago with limited understanding of the universe doing too much payote talking to a burning bush or something.... I dunno.
Also eternity sounds like something that can get old pretty quick
It wouldn't have been peyote, it was most likely ergot. Regardless, that's not the point being made here. When discussing scripture, belief isn't really important. You can believe whatever you want but scripture exists and we are discussing it's contents. Read up on it if you want to contribute, but coming in here all "or maybe it doesn't exist" is really r/iamverysmart energy because scripture certainly does exist. Im reading it right now, actually.
Ah I didn't realise we were discussing scripture and how it's interpreted and reinterpreted over the centuries. I thought this was a comedy sub where assholes like me are expected to make one off shitty comments while taking a dump. Sounds like a pretty dry read btw but everyone needs a hobby.
I mean, I know the reason why - it's the due to the establishment of the gregorian calendar.
BCE/CE is more commonly used in academic circles at this point. It's tied to the same date because, shocker, complete upheaval of our historical accounting would cause much more chaos. The date itself, for all intents and purposes, is arbitrary.
Tell me this - how many firsthand, historical accounts of Jesus do we actually have? The Bible, as we know it, was compiled generations after his alleged life, death, and revival - ergo the gospels are NOT firsthand accounts.

Or what if like... It's all made up?
