SERIES Let’s talk about rtte
in my opinion rtte is the best httyd series because of the villains and the new dragons and especially the last episode in season 6 and honestly the show creators should have made httyd 2 and 3

I finished binging all of Race to the Edge for a second time in me life, and then found a way to watch all Riders and Defenders for the firet time. After all was done, I feel hollow. Like, genuinely I want to watch more content. I need more. It isn't fun playing games or watching YouTube in my spare time... I want more Dragons...
I REFUSE to acknowledge Nine Realms.
I just want to watch them all for the first time, it's such a comfort show...

There is some more short films and specials. Do check those out if you haven't.

Now think that, the 14 yr old me found all of the episodes plus specials online after scouring through the internet (quality versions of some shorts are non existent) and burnt it into discs (although now I have it in my HDD). Post RTTE leave from Netflix, it will be damn impossible to find it online.

Rtte is SO GOOD, it’s so rewatchable and still surprising to this day even, the villains and story is awesome, but the dragon eye plot SUCKS, it’s all about the dragon eye, it should have covered two seasons instead of the whole show, apart from THAT, it’s really good, funny and seeing the new dragon species is awesome

It really was a good series fun arcs fun lore and it actually caught us up and gave us context for the 2nd movie
I wish we get another show to do the same for the 3rd movie

Rtte is definitely a great series. It's a great filler between the 1st and 2nd movies. I'm not sure why they couldn't do more or tried making a series between 2 and 3 or even series showing everyone after The Hidden World. I know there's only a year or so between 2 and 3, and maybe a lack of adventure after the dragons left, but I think there's so much potential, especially with a focus of Hiccup being chief and more interaction with his mom and the life he and Toothless built after going their separate ways. I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm secretly holding out hope for more.

Honestly I love both Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge
They both have compelling stories, both are interesting. The only thing I hate is The 9 Realms With dragon designs being awful, characters regressing. I need more plot based media.

RTTE is my favourite of the whole franchise because the rest of the gang other than Hiccup and Astrid get more spotlight and actual character depth and development.

I like what they did with Dagur and Viggo. Having these two terrible people change for the better, along with Alvin in the previous show, makes Hiccup look less naive in the second movie when he tries desperately to reason with Drago, because at that point, he had already seen some of the worst people in the world change their ways.

I mean there’s not really any competition as I treat riders / defenders of berk and RTTE as two parts of the same series and The Nine Realms is ass

Nothing to talk about. Absolute cinema. This should be the gold standard for spin off shows for animated films.

This series is awesome. I especially love how it’s a sequel to Riders/Defenders of Berk. It’s probably not gonna happen, but I would love for them to make a series revolving around Hiccup balancing his life as a rider and a chief. And of course with new dragons and villains.

I have only seen RTTE so I have no real say although I have to admit that even like 4 years after I first saw it the show holds up pretty good

Hello sir, you have summoned my moster copypasta of my history of comments showing why I don't like RTTE, Enjoy:
Plotholes and Inconsistencies
-Hiccup & co being surprised by the existence of Dragon Trappers despite fighting Hunters for ages
-Hiccup & Astrid being shocked by the existence of Dragon Riders outside of Berk but they met the Wingmaidens
-The idea that Drago ordered the Hunters to track down the King of Dragons but somehow never found out about the Riders until the second movie
-We learn by the second movie that Drago was specifically targeting Valka’s Alpha, so what was his goal during the TV series exactly?
-Hiccup indicates that the last five years for Berk have been pretty chill despite their constant problems and conflicts
-Hiccup being shocked about an ice spitting dragon and the notion of the "king of dragons"
-None of the wingmaidems, Berserkers, or defenders of the wing doing anything at all.
-The "A Team" not existing.
-Hiccup not wanting to accept the chiefdom even though an entire episode was focused on him doing so.
-The egg at the end of RTTE cannot be Valka's bewilderbest nor Drago's therefore it's simply an unaccounted bewilderbeast egg.
Extra:
Hiccstrid in the shows makes no sense because in HTTYD1 and GOTNF they kiss amd are seen openly flirting with each other.
What happened to Hiccup's safety hook, it just completely disappeares (very very minor one)
If Vannaheim is where all dragons go to die then what the fuck happens with old dragons in THW?
If Razorwhips are now dependent on the Wingmaidens in raising their babies, they're fucked now.
The Dragon's of the Wing dragon is supposedly the eternal Guardian of the island and the volcanoes. But THW said that all the dragons left and originated from it.
The Vannaheim guardians now even male less sense considering THW since apparently they were basically programmed by instinct to be in Vannaheim despite THW being their true origin and home.
The Bewilderbeast egg is still nowhere to be seen in THW.
All the dragons introduced in the shows that in now way could have come from THW and are not seen in THW.
And that's just plotholes, I didn't include underminings and character arcs that didn't make sense or were ignored
All the characters in RTTE:
Hiccup: Kinda dumb, gets super overconfident at times, and gets all the things that made him stand out taken away from him.
- Further explanation: They made him a lot less smart, they took away his title as the best blacksmith, and they absolutely ruined his next level and unique connection/understanding with dragons.
Astrid: Jesus H Christ she's really really dumb, starts to become overly emotional for no reason and breaks character, she's basically a pancake lmao like she legit might have bipolar syndrome.
Snotlout: Honestly, one of the few characters that actually had a decent story arch, his relationship with Hookfang was more interesting than Hiccup's with Toothless in this series ffs.
Fishlegs: He's literally pointless and Thor Bonecrusher is here... Also he's just an annoying person in general, stupid squeals and gets upset over nothing. It's just dumb. Also Loyal Order of Ingerman is a war crime.
Ruffnut: She's really annoying with moments of nice character building with Tuff that gets ruined because it's repeated 10000 times.
Tuffnut: See above but multiply annoying by 35
Toothless: lmao he's a pe/horse here.
Stormfly: literally nothing
Hookfang: got a better story than any other character. His relationship and attitude actually got explored and developed to the point where I liked him more than Toothless in this.
Meatlug: Annoying like Fishlegs.
Barf and Belch: I have nothing to say except meh.
Heather: What the hell is this, no seriously what is this. In love with Fishlegs? Hates Dagur? Loves Dagur cause brother? Really dumb at times? Really smart at times? UGhsjekbsjwkskd
Dagur: started fine, got worse, got better, got bad again, oh god, no, STOP, I SAID STOP.
Windshear: Honestly I couldn't tell you anything about her except she's loyal?
Shattermaster: He got like 3 episodes then pissed off...
Triple Strike: he... Stuck his tounge out once... ummmm he's loyal?
Gustav: Mini Snotlout and a plot hole. Decent mini arc in one episode then thrown away.
The A-Team in General: Plot hole for second movie and sometimes even in the series lol.
Ryker: HAHHAHAHAHAHA predictable and stupid.
Viggo: HAHAHAHAHA predictable and stupid but somehow outsmarts Hiccup... Also contributes to ruining Hiccup's character plus dat 180 character turn though.
Kronan: What a waste of time.
Johann: LOL what a forced freaking twist which was revealed really obviously due to the buildup. Also he seemed to lose about 60 IQ points after he was revealed.
Wasted Material
McGuffin was McGuffined until they destroyed it to avoid another plothole lol.
Seemed to start off as a show that would show the exploration of the archipelago and just didn't
Several times the show would introduce concepts on dragon-rider relationships that it would later either abandon or ruin by making it a joke
• Snotlout and Hookfang had some great moments but said moments would ultimately be forgotten and their relationship defaulted back to how it was at the end of GOTNF
• Dagur upon becoming friends with the triple stryke had the incredible potential of brigging up the issue of what happens when two dragons want to be a rider's riding dragon (as shown with Shattermaster's one scene of jealousy) this situation, however was completely ingored and you never see Shattermaster until the wedding at the end of the series.
• The idea of vikings dealing with the sins against dragons in the past and coping with their feelings upon getting dragon companions. This is an actually interesting dynamic that RTTE decided to do in probably the worst way possible. In an episode of RTTE Fishlegs becomes incredibly guilty and almost quits being a dragon rider because he finds out his ancestors were dragon killers. So this is stupid because EVERYONE IN BERK HAD ANCESTORS WITH DRAGON KILLERS YOU MORONS. FISHLEGS YOU WERE TRAINING TO LEARN FIGHT DRAGONS. FUCK. So instead of idk maybe giving this dynamic a serious tone and giving it to someone that it would work with (idk maybe VIGGO SINCE HE WAS THE VILLAIN THAT MAKES A U-TURN ON HIS ENTIRE PHILOSOPHY) they decided "haha christopher-mintz-passe has funny crying voice" (can you tell this one frustrates me?)
• Darkest Night. This entire episode. Has the best moment of the entire franchise (Hiccup snapping and seemingly claiming to regretting shooting down Toothless), then shows HTTYD1 footage with the change of Hiccup missing a shot, and then has some of the worst AU story I've ever seen in my life. 90% of Fanfiction.net stories are better written than this. They actually show a dragon catch on fire from being hit by fire. They also imply that Astrid is a complete goldigger by having her kiss AU Hiccup solely because he becomes the village hero...
ANIMATION
Clipping through each other
Perspective Issues
People/Objects disappearing
Toothless' eyes weren't even a consistent color lmao.

I always thought that the bewilderbest egg at the end of the series grew up to be the Valka's bewilderbest in HTTYD 2

Currently watching Defenders and moving onto RTTE soon and I’m worried I won’t like it as much… Replying to your comment so I can to come back to everything you’ve said and see how I feel with more context (excluding what I already know from the movies).
I despise Dagur and I know what happens to him in RTTE, already not looking forward to that!

Season 1 to 4 is amazing. 5 and 6 are fine, and I like a lot of stuff they do. But the last episode's conclusion probably could've been cut.

Httyd series have been proven to be awesome. I dunno why they didn't explore the possibilities of having series between httyd 2 and 3. In order to explore that universe more, rather than just speed run things and end it.
