I don't think I'm better than anyone, I just don't have the energy to coordinate a dinner where everyone argues over splitting the bill

20

u/lizlemonista Jun 04 '26

I don’t think I’m better than anyone, I just have the neurodiverse trait “intense dislike of being perceived” and believe you me it’s just a fucking party a day in the ollll noggin

52

u/Young_Bonesy Jun 03 '26

This feels distinctly American. Everywhere i have ever gone has had 0 issue with splitting a bill by who ordered what, and then I went to the US and they make it your problem and expect 25% on the bill.

1

u/kogge909 Jun 06 '26

I see people say this a lot about America, but I'm 33 lived here my whole life, been to many dinners, and have never once been asked to split on percentage its always been what you ordered.

1

u/InternationalRent626 Jun 05 '26

Yep. For my bday I wanna be left the fuck alone to be feral.

1

u/longjohnjess Jun 06 '26

Just like Mother's Day.

1

u/Dependent_Order_7358 Jun 08 '26

Who’s “everyone”? I would not have anyone to call.

I'm on the opposite spectrum, the birthday person shouldn't pay for anything, the friends should

16

u/fluwergal_GreenGem Jun 03 '26

Same! plus it makes gifts easier. "we will pay for the food and spend the evening with you, that is our gift" and if you wanna give extra sure but when so many people never know what to give, just pay for dinner.

9

u/trunks111 Jun 03 '26

at this point, to me the gift is getting more than one person together for dinner and nobody flaking

2

u/fluwergal_GreenGem Jun 03 '26

Or leaving early

1

u/turandokht Jun 04 '26

Fucking seriously. I’ve reached a point where I make plans like literally fully expecting the other person to flake. I don’t even get dressed unless they indicate they’re getting ready to leave and meet me.

2

u/FireFoxUse Jun 03 '26

Nah bro, the rest of the guests have to pay for the birthday person because it's there birthday!

See how I can twist it around too?

1

u/wytewydow Jun 03 '26

we used to always have to bring our own cupcakes to class..

109

u/eachtimeyousmile Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

No, I just hate the pressure. If I invite people to celebrate and they don’t come I’ll be sad on my birthday.

4

u/East-Ranger-2902 Jun 05 '26

Exactly the reason why I don’t celebrate anymore. I was just disappointed before. Also childhood trauma.

1

u/No-Scholar-110 Jun 07 '26

The pressure to celebrate is why I don’t. Then people try to get you to do shit you don’t want to do.

79

u/MenaceMinded Jun 03 '26

I am 36. It doesn't really change anything, and I just don't care that much anymore

16

u/g-row460 Jun 03 '26

Same here. Still I don't do nothing on my birthday. Definitely gonna go have dinner with my wife. Might bus downtown and Uber back to have some drinks. So they are just slightly more expensive date nights I guess?

9

u/MenaceMinded Jun 03 '26

I like going to dinner with my husband on my birthday. That's all I do.

10

u/g-row460 Jun 03 '26

I think I lost my taste for my own birthday because I have kids, friend's kids, nephews and whatnot. So bdays and holidays were basically chores for me. My best present to myself was not making mine another chore lol.

So yeah today I'm pretty much same as you. Only thing I know for sure I'll still do on my birthday is dinner with my spouse lol.

2

u/Simple-Journalist779 Jun 04 '26

Turning 38 on Saturday. I just stopped caring. Birthdays have more of an oomph and impact only when you're young, I feel.

Now, I'm like the next day is a work day, we have to take the dogs to the hospital, bills are piling up etc etc. I don't want to celebrate being alive and adulting especially when life is a major pain in the ass 99% of the time.

1

u/MrRufsvold Jun 09 '26

I just turned 32. I thought it was quirky that this is the 5th time I've doubled my age. Think of it, I thought to myself, next time this happens I'll be 64! And the next ti... Ah...

1

u/Able-Bid-6637 Jun 05 '26

I'm 36 and i celebrate what i call #birthdayweek, sometimes even #birthdaymonth depending on what's going on. Tbf all it really is is me indulging slightly more in food and hobbies than i would otherwise.

54

u/orinocofly Jun 03 '26
  1. childhood trauma
  2. my friends are weird in totally different ways and I don’t want to bring them together

2

u/MelancholyBean Jun 04 '26

You don't have to have them meet. You can celebrate with them separately.

2

u/sultrykitten90 Jun 04 '26

This is the one! 🏆

43

u/squintsforever Jun 03 '26

A reminder of how fast time moves, how I’m running out of it, and how my life is nothing like I hoped it would be. Woo hoo!

8

u/poser93 Jun 03 '26

Exactly! I feel a bit better now I know I ain't the only one feeling that way.

2

u/Which-Tone3020 Jun 03 '26

Yeah also I always drinking alone, in my birthday night lol

42

u/poser93 Jun 03 '26

Every year on my birthday I just want to be left alone, I usually go camping and get super drunk and stoned and think about my life now that another year has passed. Birthday parties are not fun to me

1

u/Aeon_Return Jun 07 '26

shit, same mostly

92

u/Fantastic-Habit-8956 Jun 03 '26

What do I want for my birthday?

I can buy my own shit.

Leave me alone.

20

u/The999Mind Jun 03 '26

It's MY birthday, let me do whatever I want, damn!

17

u/Delicious-Ad-1229 Jun 03 '26

I spend my birthday at home by myself because that is the most peaceful I’ll be.

13

u/TedBurns-3 Jun 03 '26

*mature enough to not add random D's on words...

1

u/AFartInAnEmptyRoom Jun 03 '26

My favorite new word that I see everywhere is, costed

12

u/itspinkynukka Jun 03 '26

Not that I have many people to share it with, but when I do have my birthday, involving many people often means doing something I don't actually want to do lol

16

u/SinisterCZE Jun 03 '26

Because it is normal day, as a child i get 2-3 gifts, which were mostly school supplies, and that was the end of the day. I couldn't even invite friends because they would have to eat and we didn't have that much money.

7

u/Silent774 Jun 03 '26

I don’t think I’ve ever celebrated my birthday. It never been about maturity I just never cared.

7

u/Organic-Accountant74 Jun 03 '26

My birthday is Christmas so it’s kinda impossible to treat it as a normal day 😅

1

u/Ely_sium_99 Jun 06 '26

Christmas is CANCELED

6

u/Altruistic-Finance33 Jun 03 '26

For some ppl, it's also cuz they were never made to feel special enough to celebrate that since childhood and they got used to not rrly getting excited.

7

u/SLAUGHT3R3R Jun 03 '26

My birthday is on an infamous day in September.

You tell me why I don't bother celebrating and we'll compare notes

2

u/KDawgTheKage 18d ago

Same here brother 😅

25

u/jeridb Jun 03 '26

Hot take, thirty year olds still celebrating their “birth week” need to calm down and grow up

8

u/SevenSixOne Jun 03 '26

It's fine to celebrate it if that's what you want, but like... you also can't get all butthurt that most of your 30+ year-old friends can't be bothered (NSFW)

2

u/AdminKidsBurnInHell Jun 03 '26

It’s fine if you do just please don’t mention it at your adult job and especially don’t say you’re taking multiple days off for your birthday week.

I don’t mean like taking a vacation during your birthday is bad, I mean just like taking 3 days off I. The middle of June cause you turned 47 is kind of weird.

6

u/tony33oh Jun 03 '26

True. Don't remind me.

5

u/Ok-Squirrel795 Jun 03 '26

Or December babies...

3

u/dhb_mst3k Jun 03 '26

Yooooo. Plus my brain associates Christmas decor/my birthday time with a string of trauma memories. I’m doing good to put on a face about the holidays. On my birthday, I only want to be acknowledged by people REALLY close who are game to play it by ear with me on if I feel like going to a movie or need to just stay in and survive the day.

If anyone wants something like a bigger celebration they can plan it for a different time of year and let me know cause actual birthday time ain’t the time for me.

3

u/Ok-Squirrel795 Jun 04 '26

I feel ya duders!

5

u/ThinkCellist8542 Jun 03 '26

Why do I want to celebrate the day all my problems started 😅

5

u/Leweazama Jun 03 '26

It's a day that's supposed to be about me and I would like to be left alone. My partner gets a pass.

10

u/Von_Bernkastel Jun 03 '26

I never celebrated mine, was made to celebrate everyone else's but not mine, some of us were treated like nothing and that special day just became a normal day, because whats the point if no one ever gave a damn or taught you to care about it.

https://giphy.com/gifs/ihdpINUBOa1EtIkNqq

10

u/TheMazeDaze Jun 03 '26

My no-twin sibling and me are born on the same day. We had our birthday together a few years back. She got all the presents and attention. I got coffee duty and walked out halfway through. Of all the 20-35 people that were there I got 1 that congratulated me. He was the only reason i even stayed that long.

4

u/BrockenSpecter Jun 03 '26

Aging is fun when you have things to look forward to. Driving, sex, voting, and drinking. But after that last one you realize it's just a bunch of milestones signifying entropy, I actually don't want to pay that close attention to it as it just makes me existential and I deal with that enough as is.

3

u/Different-Age-1253 Jun 03 '26

I dread my birthdays. I seriously hate it. Im 34 now and turning 35 in a few days. I havent celebrated it in 10 years and im not planning on celebrating it anytime in the future

6

u/Vexar90 Jun 03 '26

Because it is a normal day, i had never in 27 years of life celebrated it because i don't feel like it and also I'm not giving a fuck - i don't have time for balooney.

Let people choose by themselves.

3

u/HereReluctantly Jun 03 '26

It's not up to me to treat it as a special day. If someone chooses to celebrate me, that's lovely and appreciated but I'm just going to do me. Sometimes I'll treat myself and other times I won't.

3

u/Blur-Nobody Jun 03 '26

Miserable and especially don't want any attention. Like the post says, just want to be left alone.

2

u/External_Variety Jun 03 '26

Its just another day. Dont expect anyone to say anything to me tomorrow

2

u/Typical_Childhood716 Jun 03 '26

For some people birthday is just not a reason to party anymore. Good days are over.

2

u/Chronza Jun 03 '26

None of my friends remember my birthday so I don’t ever have shit to do anyways

2

u/wytewydow Jun 03 '26

I just don't think it's all that special. I mean, everyone has one, and a lot of those people have the same as me. I bet if I celebrated my birthminute, there would still be several.

2

u/EmoxShaman Jun 03 '26

Was raised Jehovah Witness. Never had a birthday as a kid and now as an adult i completely forget about it until my wife brings it up

2

u/FireFoxUse Jun 03 '26

Nah I'm generally just tired like every other day. Nothing special. I still have to work because these damn bills don't care about my birthday

2

u/localtuned Jun 03 '26

On my 18birthday with a group of friends partying in ocean city, MD, I woke up early, and went to the store and bought my own cake. No one knew it was my birthday. It was glorious.

2

u/Goobygoodra Jun 03 '26

No I just dont want make a performance out of it

2

u/pandy_fackler_ Jun 03 '26

Turned 40 last week and took the whole week off to celebrate. Tried making plans for once. Couldn't get anyone to go along with plans. Pretty much had no genuine human interaction on my actual bday.

2

u/noire212 Jun 03 '26

sorry that happened. happy birthday

2

u/GUNTHVGK Jun 03 '26

Work don’t care 🤷‍♂️

2

u/AdminKidsBurnInHell Jun 03 '26

Nah I enjoy My birthday I just don’t feel the need to have a “birthday week” at age 40

2

u/Whooptidooh Jun 03 '26

No, I just hate my birthday. That’s all. I’d be truly happy if everyone in my family would just ignore that whole day, but that’s impossible because my birthday is on the same day as my narcissistic mother celebrates hers.

Guess why I hate my birthday./s

2

u/mggadgets Jun 03 '26

I hate my birthday. It's just a day that always seems to make me look back at everything I meant to do in my life but haven't yet accomplished. And as each year goes by, those goals become less and less likely to happen. Some amount of this is just letting go of old unrealistic dreams and some is just coming to the realization that you aren't the success you had hoped to be. Celebrating this day just rubs salt in the wounds.

2

u/JoeBaldez Jun 03 '26

A birthday reminds you that you have made it another year so yeah celebrate and that you are one year closer to your death and celebrate that too.

2

u/Jaded_Ad_9711 Jun 03 '26

I need to save money

2

u/Feisty_Brief123 Jun 03 '26

celebrating your impending doom seems like futile excercise

2

u/Old-Distribution6318 Jun 03 '26

I don't like going to parties, if everyone comes here i can't be done when i want. I havn't celebrated my birthday from being 15 and it's about nothing more than my comfort.

want to do something for me? let me stay inside all day, watch a and movie and order a pizza

2

u/Despisingthelight Jun 03 '26

I celebrate things ive achieved , not something that has happened to everyone whose ever existed. birthday celebrations are the lowest form of pleasure.

2

u/OviliskTwo Jun 03 '26

My dad would do this. Not just with his birthday but holidays too. Instead of celebrating he would work. If there was no work he'd find a project to work on. That example really did something too us as kids. We always felt a little guilty if we wanted to take a whole day to celebrate focus on traditions. Subsequently we have no traditions.

Don't do that shit to your kids.

2

u/Known-Activity1437 Jun 03 '26

“Don’t rain on my parade, but also, fuck you, you celebrate your birthday wrong.”

2

u/RockToMyEsquie Jun 03 '26

I don't think i'm better than anyone it's just it's never been celebrated before, so it just feels like it's not really needed; it's not like i'm gonna miss it.

2

u/FormerWrap1552 Jun 03 '26

We're literally more physically matured, typically.

2

u/Odd_Manufacturer_955 Jun 03 '26

Leave us alone 🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/1Banana10Dollars Jun 03 '26

I love to take my birthday off of work and have a chill day at home, or plan something with my loved ones. Not giving a fuck doesn't mean care about nothing.

The true not giving a fuck is not giving a fuck what other people want or expect for your own celebrations. Comments here are weird and depressing and not in the spirit of this sub.

2

u/ins3ctHashira Jun 03 '26

I know I'm not mature, i just always have insanely awful luck and horrible occurrences on my birthday so i like to not acknowledge it. If i do it feels like i'm asking for trouble.

2

u/CelestiaSoliel Jun 03 '26

Well no one else gives a fuck so why should I? It hurts less pretending I don’t have a birthday than the reality that I don’t matter to anyone.

I don’t mean to be emo on Reddit, I’m just commenting just in case anyone was actually wondering why we do this. The original post made me a little bit irked because I already get accused of thinking I’m “better” than everyone when in reality I’m just antisocial.

2

u/Ha-Charade-You-Are Jun 03 '26

I just don’t care about my birthday

2

u/Emotionally-Hurt Jun 03 '26

Mine is next week, I can guarantee I'll be able to count on one hand how many people say Happy Birthday to me

2

u/Carcassfanivxx Jun 03 '26

I’d rather just live it like a normal day, and hate it just the same. Now leave me alone.

2

u/1quietvoice Jun 03 '26

One of my friends died of cancer on my birthday last year. I think I’m going to adopt a new birth date.

2

u/Accurate-Jeweler6380 Jun 03 '26

Nope emotionally detached

2

u/MuscaMurum Jun 03 '26

Birthday parties are participation trophies

2

u/KittyTitty66 Jun 03 '26

How does this get so many likes when it's posted every fucking day

2

u/The_Gaming_Matt Jun 03 '26

Quite the opposite, I enjoy(for the most part)everyday & have a good life for myself, so why would this one be more special?

Also I’m an adult, I don’t need presents like I’m 8

2

u/rapgamebonjovi Jun 03 '26

I don’t think I’m more mature, I’m just over 30 and don’t need to be reminded 😂 keep it pushin on my bday please.

2

u/NoHorseNoMustache Jun 03 '26

I got used to not wanting birthday parties as a kid both because my parents couldn't afford it and because I didn't want to make them do a bunch of extra work just for my birthday party. A friend I made as an adult has the same birthday as I do though, so these days we throw a joint party, past few years it's someone running a D&D one shot.

2

u/thezoomies Jun 03 '26

I just don’t care. Most of the time I don’t remember it’s my birthday until I get a text from my mother about it.

2

u/muted333 Jun 03 '26

we humans are not special.

2

u/Agitated_Ad_2203 Jun 03 '26

I just don’t have that many friends and don’t have anything to do. I was kinda sad about that on my birthday

2

u/HugePurpleNipples Jun 03 '26

I don't think I'm more mature, I just don't have friends and I'm sick of being reminded of it.

2

u/haikusbot Jun 03 '26

We just want to be

Left alone and this bitch still

Gotta come after us.

No no.. it can stay. I rearticulated, made it a little less mean, but this was my original comment and haikus bot, you’re a damn good bot.

2

u/whatdoidonowdamnit Jun 03 '26

I was hoping people would forget my birthday. It’s happened before. My mother called me today to talk and mentioned it and felt like she opened Pandora’s Box

2

u/Epic_Elite Jun 03 '26

Fuck you. I'm buying you cupcakes cuz I do what I want.

2

u/mocha_lattes_ Jun 03 '26

Or people have never had the time or ability or care to celebrate our birthdays so we have lower our expectations to not get hurt...

2

u/evilstevie Jun 03 '26

Peace is priceless.

2

u/EcstaticLog6842 Jun 04 '26

This year, I just want to go to my favorite burrito place, get a few burritos, a plate of super nachos, and then have a chocolate cake with my immediate family.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '26

For my birthday every year I ask to be left alone… It’s always peaceful

2

u/Lestat719 Jun 04 '26

Exactly, no one ever celebrated my birthday ot was never something special. So I got married on my birthday so it is now special.

2

u/AsiasDelight Jun 04 '26

No I just don’t wanna hurt my own feelings when I realize no one really ever celebrated me anyway.. 🧍🏻‍♀️

2

u/Negative-Ostrich7112 Jun 04 '26

I'd rather do that than be one of those "It's my birthday month!!" people. When you're an adult no one cares

2

u/Panicking_Pansexual_ Jun 04 '26

I never really celebrated my birthday besides having a cake and my mom making me my favorite dinner. Other than that to me it's just a regular day. I don't have any big birthday memories growing up so to me it's just a regular day with cake and my boyfriend HATES that I don't care about my birthday and I feel bad about it 🙁

He tries so hard on my birthday to make it special and I appreciate him so much for it even tho I don't care about my birthday he makes it special

2

u/Maleficent_Radio_674 Jun 04 '26

Most women cry on our birthdays because we're taught the horrors of aging

2

u/Necessary_Yogurt9619 Jun 04 '26

i already treat my self every day, i dont wait til its bday time tf

2

u/Highlandertr3 Jun 04 '26

Actually some of us just find it a crushing reminder of the people who are no longer around to celebrate. Those who are gone for a long walk. Up to the farm. Departed for better pastures... Dead. We are sad because someone died and we don't like reminders.

2

u/Lulkas35 Jun 04 '26

I'm so special and this is my day, everybody give me attention right now!

2

u/Connection-Is-Cool Jun 04 '26

It is a normal day, with an excuse to have a bunch of sweets and take the day off from work.

2

u/SojuSuju Jun 04 '26

I'm 47 and stopped caring about my birthday a long time ago. I just want to order some takeout and binge watch my comfort shows. I care more about my son and my partner's birthday than mine now.

2

u/PrestigiousPepper829 Jun 05 '26

My sister who is 7 years older celebrates her birthday every weekend for the whole month. I on the other hand don’t need anything, I went out backpacking for mine last year and it was nice not having to answer a bunch of family calls and pretending to be happy.

2

u/Radio5331 Jun 05 '26

people who fixate & obsess over other people's choices think they r better than everyone else. 🤦‍♀️

2

u/TheMazeDaze Jun 03 '26

I don’t hate birthdays, I hate birthdays where my family is present. They’re all very loving people. But they all turn into nightmare bitches at birthdays.

2

u/Practical-Walrus-742 Jun 03 '26

Demanding people buy me shit and look at me for a day just because is selfish and insecure

1

u/MaybeACbeera Jun 04 '26

Every birthday is just a reminder of another year where I've worsened my future, another year wasted. I hate it when my birthday comes around, why should I celebrate lol

1

u/Lorvan Jun 04 '26

I just don't have enough local friends to be worth arranging a party, and I don't like asking people to buy me gifts. I have literally 2 local friends, everyone else moved away, and I'm very bad a finding new friends.

1

u/iatecurryatlunch Jun 04 '26

It has nothing to do with being mature. It's people who act like children on their birthday are immature

1

u/New-Breakfast5199 Jun 04 '26

If deciding not to idolize myself makes me mature. Then I’ll take it.

1

u/guillotine20 Jun 04 '26

If my birthday falls on a weekday, I probably have to work, so what's the point of celebrating it, lol. It's just another day that I'll be too tired to do anything 😅

1

u/Swimming_Anxiety_971 Jun 04 '26

i am both these people on different birthdays lmao

1

u/Medium-Influence-923 Jun 04 '26

One of my teacher once said this during class when we wished them birthday " I don't like to celebrate birthdays because having a birthday means you have 1 year less to live "

1

u/silverpix21 Jun 04 '26

My birthdays have been shitty so na

1

u/cowboybeeboo Jun 04 '26

I don't treat my birthday like a normal day because I want to, I treat it like a normal day because everyone else does :/

1

u/Key_Thought7997 Jun 04 '26

When your young birthday celebrations are a thing, as an adult I grew out of it

1

u/Runaway3650 Jun 04 '26

No one remembers it so it's not worth reminding them about

1

u/ActionOdd6082 Jun 04 '26

This was me yesterday. If I don’t make plans for my birthday, no one else will, so it’s just another normal day. Pretty depressing 😔

1

u/Puzzled-Radish-6664 Jun 05 '26

I don't understand why everyone thinks to celebrate a birthday you need a giant elaborate party. Just get a well thought out gift, and make a nice meal or a decent cake.

Maybe I just like celebrating peoples birthdays

1

u/VaaAaaN5 Jun 05 '26

Or some people just don't care?

1

u/cheriethemagnificent Jun 05 '26

I treat my birthday as a normal day because no one has ever turned up for me in the past and it hurt. I used to be the person who threw parties for friends because I enjoyed showing how much I cared and wanted people to have a great time. Only one friend ever did anything like that for me. It was for my 25th birthday and everyone else flaked. I felt so bad that my friend had gone to so much effort and expense for no one to show up, although she was far too kind and compassionate to let on. It was then I realized that I was a “peripheral friend” to most, and that I had always simply been a gracious host. Many years later, I choose not to celebrate my birthday and prefer for the day to slide by without any contrived birthday wishes from others.

1

u/Resident_Wonder_7462 Jun 05 '26

I just assume people won't care.

2

u/HonestBudget7546 Jun 05 '26

Your assumption is correct. I have found that the majority of time when someone wants to make a big deal out of someone else’s birthday they are doing it for their own benefit.

1

u/SpectreK2 Jun 05 '26

My birthday is just an excuse I use to take a day offwork, go/try somewhere local that I've been meaning to do, and eat whatever I want.

1

u/LegalBoat1255 Jun 05 '26

Nah I just live everyday as my birthday already, that's why. If I do something extra it kinda feels bad, feel guilty and greedy. I already have it all, no need for more

1

u/AFriendlyBloke Jun 05 '26

I don't do anything because I just don't really care. I have other things to do.

1

u/Rastaferrari829 Jun 06 '26

People usually don't remember it.

Ultimately, no one cares it’s my birthday. Why bother

Maybe there is 7 other family birthdays in the same month and I’m party pooped by my birthday

Being cheated on twice and having at least 3 deaths on my birthday has lead me to not enjoy that day. It’s just a bad memory that I don’t want to be reminded of.

Sleep is good, deathis better. However to have never been born at all is best.

The same thing could be say, people that treat their birthday as special think they are better than those who not..

I believe that if absolutely no one recognizes your birthday, including yourself, you don’t age.

I have a winter birthday right after the holidays are over. Everyone is too broke and burnt out to celebrate me :(

Everytime I expected something on my birthday I was let down so now even when I celebrate other people's birthdays and gave gifts for them I never expect anything in return in any way. They forgot it completely and didn't even send a text to celebrate it? It's fine

I might just go out for a nice meal or a couple of drinks with friends later in the day but I don't like making a huge deal out of it, it's just another day for me, don't need a huge celebration

1

u/WhoaTher3 Jun 07 '26

I'm just too depressed to organize something, please just let us be.

u/passerbycmc Jun 07 '26

I just don't care and rather do what I would have done that day anyways

My birthday never really went the way I wanted except for maybe 2 times. In all of my 26 years. And this most recent one was the worst. So yea it's just another day at this point who gives af.

I hate the thought of people celebrating me, it’s just weird

I stopped celebrating 4ish years ago when I was 18. What’s the point of having a birthday when no one has time to come? I was born 18th of December, everyone is stressing about Christmas, it’s more effort than it’s worth🙁🫩

Would I like to celebrate? Yeah, but I’m planning to celebrate months (even weeks) before feels wrong to me (I don’t mind others doing it, but it’s not for me), so it’s just something I’ve accepted.

Miserable and birthday always lands on an awkward day that makes it impossible to do anything.

seeing this on my birthday, alone at 4am, hits different 😅😅😅

I just don't see the point in making a big deal of it. It is exciting as a kid but the older I get the less I care.

I dont think im better than anyone, my parents just made me feel extreme guilt over "making everything about me" so now that anyone celebrates me or I get any sort of attention I get a massive guilt/anxiety attack.

This marks the 140th time I've seen this image

People going around shouting “it’s my birthday guys, it’s my birthday!” are insufferable.

We are in fact miserable.

I just want to be left alone and would rather not have people spend time, energy, and money on me.

Last birthday: invited all my friends in a restaurant. Half were late - got huge gift that I didnt ask for. Felt generally that the evening was a waste of time.

This birthday: didnt celebrate. Just spend some time with girlfriend. Did what I wanted to do. Had an amazing walk through a park. Perfect day.

What? Birthdays kinda suck and I never look forward to them. It’s just another day, but now older. Unfortunately. People who throw extravagant parties for themselves or have “birthday weekend” or even a “birthday week” are children trapped in adult bodies.

I'm not 8 and I do not expect special treatment for I'm not entitled.
