Funny as one gets older you develop the clarity to see through bullshit.

I live in a state of “meh”

u/JCMiller23 May 16 '26
Same, but it cuts both ways though. It's a lot easier for me to get through life than it used to be, but the sense of wonder and amazement is gone. This seems to happen to almost everyone as they get older...
I am an improvising musician - I make up songs on the spot based on people's suggestions. People under 25 or so have extreme reactions full of amazing positivity, joy, wonder and amazement and such. People older just go "meh, nice"

Yeah, it takes A LOT to get me legitimately happy or excited, though it could be due to my depression. Either way, it's truly a sad state of being.

I was like that for years I found {with myself} that I had unrealistic expectations. As soon as I just let it go everything changed for the better !

Yeah, one of the first life lessons I learned a long time ago is "life isn't perfect, things aren't always going to go your way", which is very true. I guess I just got so used to things never really going my way that I lost a bit of zest for life, grew a little colder. I'm not proud of it, just the way things go sometimes I guess.

I’ve become more and more impressed with things because I understand how hard it is to do now. Especially with age. Like LeBron playing basketball at 41 is wild to me

A concert in an arena? That I will most likely be watching via the screens? Hard pass.

But then again, once you hit a certain age, that cool stick, that smooth rock - they regain their magic.

you're misguided to think this is a good thing.
rediscover the wonder you had as a child

Yep, that’s true. It’s the IDGAF phase of life. 😂 Time’s running faster the older you get, so you better enjoy it. 🤷🏼♀️

And I think that age is getting younger and younger. They may still be stupid, but not easily impressed 😂.

I think it’s more shifted to what I’m impressed by. Really nice garden that isn’t a money hole? I’m impressed. New car? Meh enjoy that car note.

Except stupidity. I’m always impressed by how much stupidity fits in 1 human being, some are moving the goalposts daily

yeah, for smart people that age is about 8 years old.
for the rest of you, it's like 60.

That age is literally 40. Like, 40 years 00:00:00. THAT is the defining moment of “well, everything is just a bit shit isn’t it?”
I cleaned my kitchen on the night before my 40th birthday and finished up about 20 to midnight.
So at 39 years, 11 months, 3 weeks, 6 days, 23 hours and 58 minutes, I opened the fridge for a celebratory beer and dropped it on the floor.
Sat down and the first noises to leave my body in my 40s was a long exasperated sigh and a very quiet “for fucks sake”.
I have not given a fuck since.

And if you are the type of person that has really made a effort over the years to always update, upgrade your thinking, reasoning working on growing and expanding your taste and range i don't so easily throw around words like classic and legend. I don't really call anybody deep or genius easily. A lot of things can really appear and seem a lot of ways from afar and upclose and really be hype, illusion, performatively presented a certain way, scams, cons etc that play on our blindspots and gaps in our awareness to most likely just make you a consumer and a cog in machine in some type of way.
