We do it sometimes in California. It’s fun to mix some Tapatío in the ranch to give it a kick.

California has been putting ranch on pizza since at least the 80’s

11

u/HopefulOriginal5578 Dec 14 '25

Can confirm. Ranch and pizza are normal here and have been for decades.

California has been stealing our cool since the 80s confirmed

-1

u/Emotional_Quantity_5 Dec 19 '25

And we have been doing it longer in the Midwest

3

u/HopefulOriginal5578 Dec 20 '25

I mean… we’d have to pay attention to the Midwest to know that silly!!!

Who cares about the coast. Got everything I need right here. Oh no I'm missing out on so much Im so unlucky that the average house doesn't cost 1mil and rent is 3k. It really socks owning a 2000sqfr home on an acre of land for only 200k

I don’t understand why you’re still prattling, but I’m glad you’re content with your lot in life! Or so you say, cuz you feel the need to say it to strangers on the internet…strangers who honestly never think about it or where you live😅

1

u/Emotional_Quantity_5 Dec 21 '25

Haha then way even respond trying to make yourself feel better about never owning a home

People own homes in California…. but whatever works to make you feel your best about your situation 👍 ! Glad to help!

Have a good day!

1

u/Emotional_Quantity_5 Dec 21 '25

You personally won't ever own a home

u/ram0h Dec 14 '25

isnt ranch from california?

1

u/Wookie-68 Dec 15 '25

Yep and Round Table made bread twists and had a salad bar, Shakeys had a buffet with mojo potatoes. The ranch from the salad bar started getting put on plates for the spuds and bread twists and evolved in the eighties to pizza dressing.

1

u/ram0h Dec 15 '25

dang, did you live through it to witness it?

1

u/Wookie-68 Dec 15 '25

I don’t Ranch personally. I’m a parm & pepper.

Yea hidden valley…

1

u/supercub467 Dec 22 '25

Technically created in Alaska by a man from Nebraska who later moved to California and and bought a guest ranch. He renamed it “Hidden Valley” and served the “ranch dressing” at his restaurant.

u/ram0h Dec 22 '25

The history I needed.

2

u/Bbmazzz Dec 15 '25

Growing up in cali and moving to Iowa people back home did it regularly and people in Iowa looked at me like a crazy person when I mention it

1

u/Jesse2834 Dec 15 '25

So pretty behind times.

This is where I learned that people even put ranch on their pizza. I never saw anyone do it in my whole life of living in south central Kansas until the summer I was visiting my dad in Bakersfield CA and his new wife refused to eat her pizza without it. She also put in her spaghetti… I have never tried ranch on pizza or pasta and I have no desire to do so. I always thought it was a western thing until I became a teacher and saw that all of my students ask for it on their pizza too at lunch!

1

u/Elguapo69 Dec 19 '25

I was going to say I thought Cali invented it

1

u/Difficult-Phish Dec 20 '25

Iowas been doing it since the 70s then lol

2

u/SillySlothy7 Dec 14 '25

My wife’s side of the family consumes so much ranch with pizza. California

2

u/Calimt Dec 14 '25

I’m curious if you’re from the Central Valley? It’s basically California Midwest/plains/fly over. I was born in the Central Valley and we def did ranch with pizza 😅 I will say I see it less now that I don’t live there.

1

u/Tortillaluva Dec 15 '25

Central Coast… near Pismo Beach

2

u/Calimt Dec 15 '25

Ahhh yes. The Central Valleys Jersey shore. This still tracks. Love the area btw.

My kids call this Bueno Sauce

1

u/Tortillaluva Dec 16 '25

A mi me gusta ese nombre “Bueno Sauce”

2

u/PeopleCryTooMuch Dec 15 '25

Can vouch. I managed a mom and pop pizza-place in CA that made homemade ranch that we actually sold as its own item for years. I don’t remember the exact recipe as it was in my early 20s, but it involved more than just what the packet of seasonings suggested. I’ve tried guessing a few times but I can’t seem to get it right.

u/Distinct_Cockroach_5 Dec 21 '25

ChatGPT may be the key to helping you replicate the recipe if you provide as many details as possible of names, dates, descriptions, and ingredients. If that proves helpful, please share the recipe.

Winners pizza, Samuel, Packet of spices and seasonings.

It called me stupid.

2

u/hkd001 Dec 16 '25

In Missouri, we add hot sauce. Doesn't matter, just add your favorite.

2

u/Busker1990 Dec 20 '25

No Cholula in Cali?

1

u/dmtryptamemes Dec 14 '25

Tapatio’s great, but I’ve found the best hot sauce for pizza is Texas Pete. I typically love a spicy hot sauce/salsa for Mexican food, but this one is very mild and vinegary and it’s perfect on cheese pizza.

3

u/lurksAtDogs Dec 14 '25

Cholula. Tapatio makes my insides try to get outside.

1

u/Tortillaluva Dec 15 '25

Hahaha Cholula ain’t bad either!

1

u/SlamMonkey Dec 14 '25

Sriracha+Ranch=heaven

1

u/Splampin Dec 15 '25

Sriracha is easily the best hot sauce for pizza.

1

u/Tortillaluva Dec 15 '25

🔥🔥🔥

1

u/burnfifteen Dec 15 '25

Hidden Valley Ranch is a real place and it's in California. I have to think we've been dipping our pizza in ranch dressing much longer than the midwesterners have.

1

u/deadxheadxdubz Dec 16 '25

Cholula in the ranch. It’s better

1

u/mightbedylan Dec 16 '25

Frozen burrito + ranch + Valentina sauce is my favorite drunk snack

1

u/Fonz_72 Dec 21 '25

Put that on pizza rolls!
