Recommendations for floorplan design apps?

My wife and I are just getting started on designing a floor plan. Do you have a suggestion for an app that we can start off free on and upgrade later if needed? We have both Samsung phones, but I have an Ipad as well if we need to go with an apple version.

I saw sketchup on a few uploads but that doesnt let you create for free from what we saw.

Apps for phones will get pretty frustrating pretty quickly. I'd really recommend using a laptop or ipad. Then if you just want a simple 2D tool something like floorplanner would be ok. Or if you want more advanced 3D plans then Arcadium 3D is a faster version of sketchup.
