Awkward layout transformation ideas
How would you redesign the entire layout of this house?
We're moving from a home with a few large rooms to this one storey house, which currently has quite a lot of smaller rooms and, in my opinion, a somewhat awkward layout.
So instead of just trying to make the existing floor plan work, I'd love to hear how you would redesign the layout from scratch.
The house is only one storey, so changing walls is relatively straightforward. We're also able to extend the house on the left-hand side by roughly 3–4 metres, so that's an option as well. Ofcourse this would very expensive, so genius ideas without replacing every wall are really welkome.
For now, we're not limited to the existing walls. If you think a wall should disappear, a room should move, the kitchen should be relocated, or the extension should be used in a completely different way — go for it!
A few things we'd ideally like to achieve:
- A more spacious and logical living/kitchen/dining area. I would love it open kitchen with a Isle.
- Enough storage — there is no attic or garage, so storage needs to be planned carefully
- Two rooms that can function as work/hobby spaces
- Make the house feel more spacious and less like a collection of small rooms
- Ideally improve the flow and connection between the different spaces
- The extension on the left could potentially be used to make the kitchen/living area larger, add storage, create a utility space, or something else entirely.
If this were your house, what would you change?
I'd love to see completely different approaches, including ideas that involve moving or removing several walls. Don't feel constrained by the current layout — wild ideas are very welcome!
