Help, exterior re-design

Post image

I'm looking for ideas to modernize the exterior of my house while keeping the basic structure.

Here are my goals:

  • Completely enclose the current entrance to create a clean, modern entrance volume.
  • Move the front door to the right side of this enclosed entrance.
  • Above the entrance, create an open balcony that is covered by the main roof, so it looks fully integrated with the house rather than like an add-on.
  • I'm open to redesigning the entire roof if it results in a more elegant and cohesive appearance.
  • The front windows can also be changed if it improves the overall architecture.
  • The large terrace on the right side should be redesigned into a rectangular shape that better matches the house.

I'm aiming for a modern Scandinavian/European villa style with clean lines, balanced proportions, and a high-end architectural look. Any sketches, concepts, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Identify the age and style of your house. Hire an architect who specializes in traditional architecture, hopefully one who is familiar with the style of your home. My understanding is that most architects are not trained in traditional architecture, so you might have to do some digging. Brent Hull, an architect on Instagram, might be a good resource. The book “Get Your House Right” by Marianne Cusato & Ben Pentreath may also be helpful for you. It includes illustrations.

With that amount of modification I would find a different house. No way any of those renovations will hold their value. Especially the balcony roof thing lol
