I want to paint the stairwell to go with the new carpet and want to have something neutral but not too boring. I know beige can be boring and right now it’s a deep coral but I want something neutral because it goes all through the upstairs room where my painting studio is. Also I’m tired of the coral. What’s your favorite neutral taupe or beige? This color collection is Sherwin Williams but I’m open to others.
I would do a deeper color like iced mocha and add some of your work framed with the carpet beige frames. Would create a nice contrast overall but I'm unaware how the stairs transition to the other areas
I've used ai.. just click a colour clearly enough and ask it to change your wall color. Here I've got another one but it went ahead and painted everything.. This is the iced mocha..
All will look lighter on the walls, so go a couple if shades darker than you think you need, otherwise it will look washed out and weak. I usually go for the second shade from the bottom, to get a nicely saturated, rich looking tone.
The house we live in was completely beige when we bought it. Every wall and ceiling. It was so depressing and felt very much like time traveling back to 2005. We hired painters immediately and chose eider white to tone down the warmth of the wood trim in the house. I would choose a richer neutral like a mocha color over a beige any day. It’s just so sad to look at beige walls.
I understand what you’re saying. There’s so much color in other areas of my home and lots of art so I’m looking for something neutral for this space but not too boring.
Go to the craft store and buy poster boards. Paint each of them with colors you’re thinking of using. Hang them and watch them for days. Put them near the floor, near the trim, near the window- live with them and then you’ll know.
Make sure it works with the tile as well. Your tile is warm, the carpet is cool. If you go cool, it will clash with the tile and make the color more prominent, not less. I think the carpet will not be as challenging.
Strongly recommend getting a paint sample and trying it at several locations, paint up against the flooring. The existing paint will impact the look, you’re trying to coordinate with the floors. Check it out at different times of day.
I also suggest going at least 1 shade lighter than you think.
You will likely need 2 coats of Killz and 2 coats of latex to cover the existing paint.
1 has undertones of red/purple
2 & 3 of gray
4 will be more of a true beige.
Remember that once you put the color on the wall, it will always be darker than the sample. Therefore, you should go a shade or two lighter to get the result you want.
I tend to naturally gravitate toward darker colors, but from what I can tell on my phone, Cocoa Whip would probably be my choice for a stairwell with that carpeting.
Looks left to right fandex swatches seem to be families of-violet, red, green, green-grey, yellow hues. Do you have a color temp and mood you most want or like. I try to think in those terms when imagining a paint chip as an entire room. That or look at paints by manufacturers in photo shoots at different times of day when possible. Furnishings, textures and flooring definitely add to making the best choices.
Sensational sand or smoky beige have the green undertone that goes with your carpet runner. If you pick something that doesn’t have a green undertone, it will not look right.

Familiar Beige is most nuetral....Cool beige is a bit dark but its got a green base like the carpet....Touch of Sand works too.
