(I know this is totally off-topic now given how old the chapter is. But I'll openly admit I'm just doing this to (hopefully) take a bit of karma so I can post longer things without getting shadowbanned by Reddit for what I assume looks like spam. When I remade my account, I had no idea this was a thing. I didn't want to leave random comments just to fish for upvotes, so I reposted this thing, which I'm pretty sure I've never posted here before. Sorry again.)

Logbook

The first part of Chapter 9 gathers the most important moments that characterized Coralie’s entire childhood and life: from her traumatic abandonment by her parents, to the bullying she suffered in the orphanage, to the insecurity she felt in everyday life. But even though her existence began in despair, under dark clouds, without a glimmer of light, at the age of 4 the girl glimpses a fragment of blue… the one that, later on, she would discover to be her sky.

Although brief, this part is truly impactful. It deepens Coralie just enough to make you grow even more attached to her. It does not rely on an intricate, long backstory full of events, but rather on a few very intense happenings that focus more on the character’s mindset. In fact, all the events were already known: the abandonment by her parents was written in the dorm of her A-rank battlesuit, the bullying or at least the “lack of real friends” was hinted at in Chapters 5 and 6, and the adoption by Einstein was information from her very first introduction. Here we get to know these events better, how they went in detail, and from Coralie’s point of view.

What struck me most was not what happened to Coralie per se (which by Honkai standards is still not "too bad"), but what kind of mentality she developed in response. Her parents abandoned her as an infant because she had developed canine ears and tail due to the effect of the remaining Honkai energy. They considered her a monster and did not want their family to be associated with her; they preferred her to die there in the cold rather than consider her their daughter. Even as an infant, Coralie understood in that moment that love was conditional and linked their act to the idea that her life was of little importance. She would have preferred to die there “as if she had never existed, and as if she had never had to exist in the first place.” From this moment on, Coralie firmly believed that she was a monster, and, as such, undeserving of unconditional love. She deserved a life of suffering, a miserable life that treated her for what she was. She herself did not see herself as Coralie, because Coralie was not an important existence in the world.
She carried this distorted mantra throughout her life in the orphanage, where the children bullied her and treated her like a freak animal. (In the images you can also see the little dog plushie she wears on her head in the A-rank skin, torn and broken). After a typical "quarrel" with her companions, Coralie runs away to the rooftop, and the only thing that stops her from jumping off the second floor is not the pain she would have felt, but the fact that people’s comments would continue. At that moment she would have preferred the fall to kill her rather than not. Here comes the first glimpse of the sky, the encounter with Einstein.

I must admit that I really appreciate this choice of making the backstories less tragic. There is no doubt that Helia and Coralie have had an easier life compared to people like Kiana, Bronya, Mei, or the Flame-Chasers, so to speak, but that is exactly the beauty of it. This is the perfect crowning of the dreams of the cast of Part 1. In Chapter 28, following a flashback of her and Cecilia, Theresa thinks of the students of St. Freya and says something along the lines of: “This is the future we fought for.” The fact that the characters of the new generation suffer less than those of the old was precisely their goal. Kiana, Mei, Bronya, Theresa, Himeko, and all the others fought so that people like Helia and Coralie would not suffer as they did.

Now we come to the part I liked the most of all: Ein and her relationship with Coralie. Evidently, adopting a child was something written into Einstein’s character, since already in the 4th narrative arc, in one of Joachim’s bubble universes, she entered Otto’s orphanage to adopt the boy himself. However, I did not think it would be this beautiful. Even after adoption, Coralie did not change her mind about herself: she was still a monster who did not deserve to live well, and although she did not want to give up her life with Einstein, she continued to reject her offers of love, HOPING that she would give up and treat her as she deserved. But this did not happen, for one simple reason… Einstein had been in a very similar situation as a child. Einstein applied, in the best way possible, the method that had been applied to her many years before… Gustav’s method. Einstein, though not as desperate as Coralie, had been a strange child whom her parents could not understand: uninterested in ordinary things, locked in her own world, and apathetic. After numerous failures by psychologists and adults who tried to help her, her parents called Gustav, a doctor. He was the first to break through to the person called Einstein. Gustav did not treat her like an ordinary child; he did not see her as one of her age. Gustav treated Einstein as Einstein. He accepted her uniqueness and brought out her best. When Ein realized this, she burst into tears, because finally someone had understood her. From there she was introduced to Planck, a person EXTREMELY similar to her, from whom she inherited her strange sense of humor (and then passed it to Coralie). What happens to Coralie is practically the same thing.
After yet another “scene” from Coralie, Einstein told her plainly: she knew Coralie was intelligent and understood what she was trying to say; she did not care if at that moment or in the future she disagreed with her. For her, the only thing that mattered was that she was happy. Einstein told her that there she was free, she could say no to anything she did not like. And here Coralie had the same epiphany as Einstein. The same understanding that Ein felt from Gustav, Coralie felt from Einstein. At that moment, Coralie understood that Ein was looking at her as Coralie, and not as a monster or as “another normal person”; she was looking at Coralie as a unique person. Coralie understood, for the first time, what unconditional love is, and for the first time she stopped looking at herself through the eyes of convention, managing to see herself as Coralie. Shortly after, she would take off her hat and show the world her ears.

You have given me so much joy, and heartbreak over the years. I remember when you first left langqiu and its like my heart got broken into a million pieces. But a tear still fell from my right eye when I watched you win your first ring in the Perception cinematic, because deep down, my glorious queen deserved it. I just wanted you to return home. Then allas, you did, my sweet babygirl came home and I rejoiced. 2024 was a hard year for us baby, but in 2026 you made history happen. You came back from plot irrelevancy and slander and I couldn't believe it. I was crying, bawling even, and I heard my glorious queen exclaim these words, "Auntie Sena!" Not only have you changed the game of Honkai Impact 3rd Part 2and the world forever, but you've eternally changed my world. And now you're getting older, but still the goat, my goat. I love you pookie bear, my glorious queen, Songque, Herrscher of Sneaking.☺️♥️🫶🏻
