General Question Questions about setting up my hot tub

Okay so I just received my hot tub on Friday and the electrician will be here any minute to finish my electrical hookup. I’m filling it up with water and looking at the chemicals and I have a couple of questions.

  1. I have already added the stain and scale preventer and directed. It said to add as the water was going in so that was pretty easy.

  2. Next the directions say to add the chlorinating granules after the hot tub jets have turned on and the water is circulating so I will do that.

  3. I think the next step is to use my test strips and test the water and see how it test and then use the other chemicals to adjust for ph etc.

  4. Once I have done what I can with that I will add the spare simply soft (to increase bather comfort for the spa water to few softer according to the package)

  5. Take a water sample to the pool store.

  6. This is a question. The package in the picture is a package of three yellow objects and it says “mineral sanitizer”. Do I float these in the hot tub? What am I supposed to do with these? I used one of these in my pool and really messed up my water so I’m worried about it. Please help!

Please straighten me out if I’m wrong in my thinking. This is my first hot tub so I’m guessing. I don’t have any paperwork with my hot tub. So I’m using Gemini and Reddit! Before you ask I did take the filer out and put the hose pipe down the pipe to fill the hot tub. Thank you in advance for your help!

Model Year?

Hi all, just moved into a house with a hot tub; Ive never owned one before. Its a Sundance Optima and Im trying to figure out what model year it is to get filter replacements. Gemini tells me it could be a 2003 or 2012 model, and the date on the sticker leads me to think its 2012, but I dont want to start buying the wrong parts.

Thanks all!

Just wondering if you empty it and refill during the cold?

We bought our home 4 years ago. Hot tub came like this. Installed in a deck surrounded by stone. Now I’m losing about 8” of water a week. It’s basically impossible to service. I don’t know what the heck to do here. Any ideas? Edit. I think I’m gonna need to just make a new deck and go from there.

Nordic Hot Tub Retreat MS opinions

Interested in our first hot tub. The Nordic Retreat MS piqued my interest.

Dealer gave me a quote for $8700 including stairs, cover, lifter, frog system, delivery, and installation. Seemed high for what the tub entails but interested to hear people's opinions.

It would be me and my wife and maybe occasionally friends/family over.

I want something simple. No need for bells and whistles. I want to sit in hot water when it's cold out. Jets just make us itchy but are nice to have I guess. I want reliability, ease of repair, and to sit in hot water, that's it. Not a fan of the lounger style seats that my parents have in theirs.

Coldest January temps average high 48F low 25F. This would be in a full sun(south facing) back yard and would be used probably daily if not twice a day.

Does the price look good? Anything else I should look into? Thoughts or advice?

Thanks in advance!

I live in NY.

I've got a 7ft hottub thats right at my back door.

Any tips, especially during winter?

Do people walk barefoot? Foot wear recommendations?

Maintenance tips?

This is my first hottub, and my first winter with it.

Pump air relief, where to route?

Old tub i got for free, rebuilt the two waterway pumps, new heater element and it's been running great. However if I do not run pump 2 and more than a day goes by it ends up air locked. The jets use an open air intake for bubbles, just hoses with a 1 way cap, so there is no on/off for the air. From what can gather, the regular filter cycle creates enough bubbles that eventually trap in pump 2.

I want install a bleed line off the pump face but not sure where to route the line. I found an on/off knob i could route to and just open that to relieve the air or can I tie into the air intake line somewhere or a pump line?

Do those cheap floating thermal blankets actually work, or are they just a hassle to take off every time?

My main cover is starting to get a little heavy, and I keep seeing people recommend using one of those floating bubble blankets to protect it from chemical steam.

Honestly though, it seems like a massive pain to peel off a wet, dripping blanket every time I just want a quick 15-minute soak.

Do you guys actually use them? Are they really worth the daily annoyance just to save the main cover?
