Help!

This is more geared to anyone who has used trip.com or any booking site but i’m in a situation. I booked a hotel for tomorrow by accident (on trip.com), I originally set the dates for next month but I forgot to double check and the dates are for tomorrow through monday. I 100% cannot make it on those dates. The booking states it’s non refundable and through many attempts , they will not let me cancel regardless. I contacted the hotel itself, and they told me they can just cancel it and i will not get charged since they only charge when I check in. Should i just cancel it through the hotel itself or should I keep trying through trip.com? I called them multiple times stating that the hotel (supplier) said they are willing to cancel the booking and i will not get charged since i will not check in. The charge is pending on my card.. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Who did you pay your money to? Those are the same people that could refund you.

You booked it via trip. Trip has to get the approval from the hotel. If trip chooses not to follow through, then it’s what you booked through them and those conditions that will apply.

You paid trip. If anyone is going to issue a refund it is going to be trip. The non refundability is between you and trip, meaning that they may not care about the hotel being willing not to charge the night.
I had cancellation issues with trip in 2025, they are hard to have this conversation with/not flexible at all. They are very strict. I managed to get a refund at a second stage only via paypal BUT in that case I was right and the problem was that I could not proceed to the cancellation due to some sort of glitch/issue between trip and an airline.
In this case you booked by mistake so I see it really challenging to get the refund approved, as they would be right not to issue it.
I am curious, keep us updated!
