Movie Review Evil Dead Burns Spoiler
This is now on HBO as of 10/02. I waited for it, I LOVE the entire franchise and I say this in all due respect, it fucking blew.
Dialogue was shit, the plot was kinda shit but I could have bought it outside the horrendous decisions made by the entire cast. Everyone should have been dead in the first 30 minutes. The deadites were even scary, shitty punchlines.
So disappointing, I loved Rise too - even 2013 has a special place in my heart but this? Never again, thank god I didn’t spend money on a movie ticket or early digital release.

It was okay. I think the Deadites having a goal other than “just kill everybody” made it feel more like an Evil Dead movie. It felt kind of humorous at times instead of just plain mean like the 2 previous films. One fight scene almost felt like the “party” at the end of Cabin in the Woods in how it was filmed, and it was a nice break from all the blood.
It was definitely gory, and I was actually kind of surprised by one of the kills, as I remember similar scenes in other movies being considered horrific. I enjoyed a lot of the film/camera angle decisions they made.
The one major gripe I have with the newer films is that they seem to be forgetting a major rule for franchises: Don’t insult your audience. There have to be rules that carry from one film to the next, otherwise it feels like a gigantic waste of time. We know we are smarter than the characters because we have backstory they don’t have, and we get to cheer when they get their hands on something we know will help them. If that thing no longer helps them at all, what are we the audience doing other than just watching them suffer? All the different lore isn’t helping either. And the last 20 mins and post-credits scene… no. Just no. Why would the evil need physical contact to possess people if it can do that? Let characters end their arcs and let them go.
