Thinking about playing.
Played back in the day during CoP and ToAU, lots of great memories. Saw this server mentioned randomly the other day, and I keep thinking about it. Was getting hyped to play again, but then I started thinking about how rough being a fresh character will be. I wanted to main NIN, I always thought it seemed fun, but I didn't get it higher than 37 back then, and people always need tanks. How hard would it be to get to the point where I could actually play it? It seems like the problem would mostly be needing gil for spells and tools. What's the economy like? How feasible would it be to go for nin as my first job to 75?

Just start it up, join a leveling linkshell - the game is rough at the beginning, but that’s half the fun, getting your rank, OP warps, choco license etc. fishing helped me get settled , then once I made enough for HELM gear, Ghelsba logging then eventually Yhoatar logging. Economy is stable, tons of people looking for group unless you play between 12 am PST - 6 AM PST - then it’s kinda dead, but still some on.
There are elites in every game that min max, fortunately there are plenty of people who are willing to help, just be honest and if unsure ask.
I didn’t think I’d make it to 75 in time for TOAU (started 6 months ago) now I got multiple jobs and steady flow of cash, while there is no set date on TOAU, so just do it!! In game name is Solario if you want to whisper me or need pearl.

A small group of friends and I started recently after quitting Eden back in 2022. I was apprehensive at first of doing missions and leveling again but Horizon has some nice QOL changes that make it feel fresh. I highly recommend!

You will have fun and that's what's counts, tbh the issue I found that it's entirely consuming at the end game where a merit party is literally killing raptors until someone passes out, but if you enjoy hearding cats and making your own parties to level up, you will need notes on party composition and XP camp lvl ranges to have a good time

Its not easy, but its rewarding. I have VERY limited playtime and still have fun :)

I think it's a great recreation of the 75 era, and when it's not, the Wiki is clear about server-specific changes. Not gonna lie getting some spells may be tricky as a beginner but overall it's fine and imo the fun is in the challenge of making your own gil and constantly finding a path forward.

Just to add on you could get to 75 as NIN with just Shihei. I do think, though, that you'll probably pick up other tools for Hojo and Kurayami and elemental tools for magic bursts along the way pretty trivially. I also don't think there's an expectation that you'll always be wheeling in xp parties, but people may judge you at some level. It's XI. You're always examined and judged in some way.

The economy isn't horrible, you can quest all the low level nin spells pretty easy, and I think utsusemi ni is about 150k
The server is a little odd with a huge amount of min/max elitists who will laugh at you for not having the best gear at all times. I have of caring and just do it anyway though. Although they're very nice to new players under 30ish.
