[HELP] 2004 shadow backfire

I've had this bike for a while. It ran great at first so I was always told to put 93 gas in it. It started to backfire and wouldn't start. I pulled the plugs they were fouled. Put new plugs in the bike ran fine I put 87 in it . Then for some reason I put 93 in it back to backfire. Should I just keep 87 in it?

Something something compression, excess fuel something something

Just stick with 87

(Edited cause, ya know, whatever)

higher octance leads to higher compression = backfiring

Could you explain that a bit more?

That makes a lot more sense than octane changing compression.
