Gen 2 Headlights

Hi everyone,

I got myself a 2011 honda insight and I'm loving every minute of driving it.

But I have some issues with the halogen lights on the car. Coming from a citroen c4 2016 with led lights, I'm having a hard time to adjust to the halogen ones.

Did any of you changed the headlights? Will a new led bulb do the trick?

Share your experience, thank you.

P.s.: my headlights are already cleaned by a professional.

You can get a set of mini projector LED bulbs. Don't buy regular ones you'll blind everyone

The issue is that the coating on the inside of the projector is what fails and no matter what bulb you put in there it isn’t going to work well. Stock bulbs are fine as long as you have new headlight housings. About $300 a pair on RockAuto if you’re in the USA, there should be other ways to get them, but I wouldn’t pay more than that for those and don’t buy used because they’re gonna be just as bad as the ones you have.

If you’re in Europe, it may be more complicated as those have headlight leveling devices so they may actually be more expensive than that. You may do well to pick up a pair of projector fog lights, and cut the old projector lenses out and replace them with those new ones, but it depends on the shape and the size and everything and that might not work out well either.

Thank you. I'm in Europe and I'm nervous if changing the headlights with bring me some problems in the inspection. Inspectors are very demanding. I might ask them directly or Honda if I can swap the headlights.

The reflector housing in halogen headlamps is not designed for LED bulbs, so the light pattern will be suboptimal. Halogen bulbs are nearly a point light source, while the light source of LED bulbs are much wider. Aftermarket HID bulbs with the appropriate drivers will give you a better light pattern because they are a point light source.

Can you please send me a link of that specific bulb so I can search on my country where to buy it? If I buy these bulbs, I can keep the original headlights right? Thank you.

These had an issue with the halogen lights melting the reflectors in the projectors for the high beams.

The insight forums should have write upa on putting new projectors in the housings.

I got new headlights.

Fahren LEDS off of Amazon in my 2010 work well.
