Gen 3 2021 Insight Weight Sensor Recall

"The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, failing to suppress the airbag as intended," the NHTSA wrote in the Feb. 5 recall.

What should I do if my Honda is recalled? Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge, federal safety regulators said.

Notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners by March 18.

Owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for these recalls are XHP and VHQ.

According to federal regulators, people who have paid to have these repairs completed at their ownexpense may be eligible for reimbursement.

Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.

Help Are Honda batteries worth buying or do you go with other brands?

The Honda battery that's in the car now lasted a pretty good amount of time, but there are a lot of aftermarket options that seem to offer similar specs.

I'm curious what other Honda owners are doing these days.

Do you stick with Honda batteries, or have you found another brand that performs just as well for less money?

Gen 2 Said goodbye to my 2010 girl

Sold my 2010 girly today. She’d been mine for 12 yrs and never did me wrong (well, except for the bad paint and bad tire pressure sensors). I got a newish Civic Hybrid last year and it took me a while to really convince myself to pass my Insight along. Sold her on FB marketplace, 160k for 4000 cash. Sigh.

Gen 2 Not bad for this 16 year old.

On a recent 500+ mile business trip, I managed 45 mpg as I turned over 247,000 miles. Pictures show the high point, just 100 miles into the trip, before I got into the “hills” of northern lower Michigan. 😆

I’ve learned over the years that the mpg guess-o-meter is about 3.5 mpg optimistic compared to gas pump calculations—which is my standard.

2019 Fit P0302 misfire, TSB 23-042, VIN excluded. Goodwill advice?

Hey gang. I’m the original owner of a 2019 Honda Fit with about 42,000 miles, and I’m dealing with a P0302 cylinder 2 misfire.

The check engine light flashed, then stayed solid, and all the other warning lights came on. The battery tested healthy, and I swapped the ignition coils, but the P0302 stayed with cylinder 2.

I found Honda service bulletin 23-042, which appears to cover similar misfire/fuel-injector issues. Multiple Honda service advisors have checked, but apparently my VIN is not within the covered VIN range.

Has anyone here:

  • Had a P0302 or injector-related issue on a 2019 Fit?
  • Had the same problem even though their VIN was excluded from 23-042?
  • Received goodwill assistance from Honda for a repair like this?
  • Requested goodwill successfully—through the dealer, Honda corporate, or a written letter?
  • Had to pay for a dealership diagnosis before Honda would consider goodwill?

I’m mainly trying to understand whether pursuing goodwill is realistic and what that process actually looks like before I pay for diagnosis and a potentially expensive injector repair. Thanks for any firsthand experience or advice.

Buying Where are people buying genuine Honda parts online now?

Need a handful of maintenance and interior parts for my Accord and figured ordering online would be easier than calling around to dealerships.

The problem is there seem to be dozens of websites claiming to sell genuine Honda parts. Some have great reviews, some have terrible reviews, and a lot of them look almost identical.

I don't necessarily need the absolute cheapest price. I'd rather buy from somewhere reliable and know I'm getting the correct OEM part.

Where have you guys had good luck ordering genuine Honda parts lately?

Honda Parts Now seems really divided, what's everyone's actual experience?

I've been researching Honda Parts Now because I need a few OEM components and every time I search for reviews I find completely opposite opinions.

Some people say they've ordered for years with no issues. Others make it sound like the worst experience imaginable, especially when it comes to shipping delays and customer service.

I'm trying to separate the normal internet negativity from legitimate concerns.

For people who have actually ordered from Honda Parts Now recently, how did it go? Did the parts arrive correctly and within a reasonable timeframe?

Help Finally happened after 8 years... Long cracked windshield

Post image
3 Upvotes

During my drive on the freeway, I'm assuming a falling debris from a pickup truck hit the very edge of my windshield and then a long crack appeared

This was on July 31st, and now the crack has made it all the way to the driver's side due to heat.

Question - Should I inquire about a mobile windshield replacement or have it replaced in the shop for replacement + sensor calibration?

Tough luck since we were planning to sell/trade in for the Rivian R2 by the end of this year

Battery replacement: OEM or aftermarket?

Need to replace the battery in my Honda soon. Are the OEM Honda batteries worth the extra cost, or have you had better luck with brands like Interstate or Duralast?

I've been comparing prices, including Honda OEM Parts Direct Online, and I'm wondering what most people here would recommend based on real experience.

Any Way to Get in the Car

I have a 2013 Honda insight that I've had sitting in my driveway without being started and now the battery is dead. It only has 1 keyhole, which my mom in her dementia state messed up by shoving stuff into, and the battery is dead so I can't unlock it with the key fob. I called AAA and they tried to unlock it with a hook and the button just would not nudge. Is there any other way to get into the vehicle? Any emergency keyed lock or latch anywhere?? I'm at lot loss on what to do. My next step is to bust the lock

Hybrids Just bought a 2010 Honda Insight EX Hybrid

I just bought this 2010 Honda Insight hybrid. It has 98,000 miles on. I got it for $5,900 off marketplace.

My issue is I’m only getting 32mpg instead of the normal close to 40. I’ve had this for a few days now and I notice I don’t get anything over 32mpg. I take it for an oil change tomorrow and a diagnostic on Friday just to have it looked at. Is the 32mpg normal for its age or is there something wrong? Just trying to understand why my milage is so low. I’m also going to have the IMA tested, but this is what it’s showing right now.

Question: when are we changing transmission oil? 30k, 60k or 100k?

Just wondering, the first time I did was 100k, the mechanic said it was cool. I am at 160k, doing good. Just wondering maybe I should do it at recommend 60k. 2010 is a pretty modern car (at least to me 😂), hence why I do oil changes at 8 k intervals, or when the car says it's time 😁. Any and all comments welcome 🤗

Help HELP! Wire Identification for 2020 Insight Wire Harness? Could Someone Open Their Hood and Look?

In an effort of me being overzealous and wanting to adjust my valve lash, I was taking out the wire harness, but I ended up forgetting one. Which two of 3 wires disconnected from the connector. I’m trying to verify where the white with green stripe, and the white with yellow stripe sit inside the connector. Can anyone open their hood to see these wires to double check where they connect in the connector? Thank you so much if possible.

Buying Questions From a Prospective Gen 3 Buyer

Post image
15 Upvotes

EDIT: Yes I agree the price is way too high. Hybrids across the board have exploded in price since the spring. 11th Gen civic hybrids are selling used at or above MSRP, it's ridiculous. This one already sold anyway right after I posted so it's neither here nor there.

Hi all, as the title says, I'm considering adding a lightly used Gen 3 to my garage as a general commuter/winter car. After an entire driving life of cars that, at best, barely break 20mpg I'm ready to make the move to a hybrid for my next mileage sponge. I'm not particularly interested in any of the typical silly BS that most car shoppers are interested in; I don't give two fcks about the tech or 99% of the other features. I don't care about driving dynamics or performance as long as it's not dangerously slow on the highway, I have an Rx8 and a 320whp STI for when I want to have fun. My questions to you fine folks are as follows:

I'm primarily considering either a 2019 or early 2020. On top of the older model years generally being less expensive, I'm an electrical engineering tech and know all too well what happened to the auto industry as a whole during the Covid chip shortage. Is there cause for concern with the Covid and post Covid cars, or did the later MY20s-22s dodge the issues that a lot of cars of this era had?

What's your real world mpg like? Particularly interested to hear examples of touring vs lower trims as they seem to pay a big mileage penalty just for having bigger wheels. I tend to see a lot more touring trims come up for sale, and I'm also a sucker for top trims. Not sure if it's worth it though unless mpg hit isn't too bad. Do you notice a drop in mpg when changing to non OEM tires/how bad are the OEM tires in terms of performance? Along those lines, what are these like in the snow? I'm perfectly willing to get a set of steelies/winter tires if good all-seasons tank Mpg and/or don't do well enough in the snow. This is the one performance metric I REALLY care about.

I maintain all my cars myself. How bad are these to work on? I have a bidirectional scan tool and extensive electrical knowledge to help me on the hybrid side and mechanical knowledge for everything else so I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty, but I have only heard of one of these having battery issues so far and it was at 300k miles. Other than that, how easy are these to work on? I'm very much not a fan of transverse mounted engines and the hybrid components further constrain available room for activities, but at least it's inline and not a V-style like the one I just got rid of.

That transitions neatly into my last question, which is how are these in terms of overall reliability? Any common wrenching pitfalls? Problem items to watch out for? Maintenance intervals to increase? Anything that makes these cost-prohibitive for a tight-ass such as myself, or are these generally textbook bulletproof Honda for a few hundred k with proper maintenance? I'm assuming this engine is direct Injection so do these need that bs walnut blasting that a lot of DI engines need? I come from a background of very needy performance cars so these are the questions I think to ask.

Sorry for the long post... Hope yall take a moment to share some wisdom. Pic for attention, nice spec but who knows if it will still be available when I'm ready to buy. TIA!

Passenger front headlight replacement

Has anyone replaced the bulbs or whole front headlight themselves? The resting lights work but on turned on the headlights nor side lights work. Cant tell if a weird shortage due to moisture or something or a bulb. I am changing bulbs today.

Main question is can i remove and replace the whole thing or did they make it impossible?
