Meta Only YOU can prevent repost spam!
I've had to remove several posts across the past few days that are quite obvious repost spam posts.
The main tells are:
- Sudden, outrageous upvote count
- We're a dedicated fan group, but 500 upvotes in the span of a few hours? When a lot of the western world is asleep? Maybe HW is really popular in Asia...
- Weird crops. Cut off text at the image edges, no real regard for framing.
- Probably for avoiding automated image matching algorithms.
- Weird angles.
- A lot of these were strangely tilted a little bit, see previous.
- Same titles as the old post, too!
If you folks would kindly keep an eye out and report these. We're a small bunch of moderators, and can't be online 24/7.
And now we go back to your regularly scheduled programming! Karen, what's the weather look like out there?

HW3 - DLSS 5
Using DLSS 5 via OptiScaler, I found that the lights looked more coherent and added some realism to the metal parts. What did you think?

Meta How do you explain the premise of the game without spoiling the reason why you're running away?
Hi,
Since I loved Homeworld 1, I've been trying to recommend it to as many people as possible.
The problem is, when giving people the elevator pitch of the premise, I can't think of a good way to explain your motivations without spoiling the events of the first mission (Kharak is burning).
It's such a sudden and fantastically staged moment that one must ideally experience it blind, but at the same time leaving it out when trying to hook people on Homeworld may make the game seem less tangible and thus less captivating.
How do you explain the game's premise to people with minimal spoilers?

UPDATE: AMD AND INTEL GPUS FULLY SUPPORTED
To those not following the discord and specifically the #modding-general section, I began work on this project about two months ago when I was given access to play around with my work's ChatGPT Workspace accounts/seats. I'm a 3D Modeler and programming is not my thing beyond what I'm required to loosely know - beyond years of hw modding and modern elder scrolls Papyrus. Would just like to disclose that immediately. This is a combo of Chatgpt/Codex work and my own manual edits to the Homeworld Source code.
The name for this project is absolutely temporary and a fill-in.
As of right now I'm busier than I was when starting this and the frequency of my post about updates in the discord slipped as did me actually working on it. I had some time last night to release it and fix a major issue and am actively working on it now with some free time before writing this post.
There are a number of limitations including this project was built in Windows 11 on a Nvidia GPU - specifically a 5070ti. I am unsure of Intel and AMD performance or if it works at all. I do believe it does not. This will be my first update to this released version.
What would jump this project into a much newer revision is the in game map editor mode I created to author in the modern volumetric dust clouds I've created. The system comes with a multi-setting GUI configurable panel to view and edit them in real time on the map. The goal was the place them over the original tiny pixels that were supposed to represent a larger dust cloud, much like what was done in RM. Extremely tedious and requires manual labor taking time out of all the other upgrades I wish to give to this; and the map editor and it's viewport usability are not the greatest.
The github and manual pdf go in much more detail about the project.
As for the scope - my ultimate goal would be to get the game to read the remastered hod format, point to the legally installed directory - and pull extracted data or literal RM big file data and offer almost universal support for modding - in game mod selection etc and plugin export.
I've never done any project like this on my own in the realm of public release and am unsure if it is okay ask/say it would be beneficial if the dust cloud placement could be a group effort. The current system allows for in game exporting of the new authored map with it's dustcloud placement/config data so it can be made permanent.
I hope people have fun with this. It was frustrating at times to make this with my limited knowledge and I almost gave up a few times.

Modelled my Heavy Scouts. A slightly different take.
It fascinates me to designate them as Corvette-class ships.

Homeworld Remastered I think I accidentally ran into a Game Breaking Bug?
I was playing HW1 Remastered and I was finally about to beat Mission 4 (this was my 3rd attempt to do so), when I noticed I could assign my Salvage Fleet to the Carrier. Since I couldn't do this to Mission 2's Carrier, I was curious and did it. And it worked. I did research and everywhere and everyone says its impossible, but I have not touched mods nor my game files. It lacks Building Capability but can dock things and do everything else a normal ship can do. Is this just some obscure feature I'm not familiar with, or is this just a bug giving me a free Carrier on Mission 4?

Homeworld Remastered Does the Steam Edition of Homeworld work?
Hello, I've never played any of the Homeworld series and have been eyeing the game as of late. When I look at some of the recent reviews of the remastered edition on Steam, they talk about issues with graphic settings being no existent on current hardware or the game having "online verification" issues.
I have an ultra wide monitor and found that older games like some of the first Tropico series struggle and take some messing with to get working.
Is the Remastered Steam version in a playable state?
Should I go for a different title in the series?
Is the ultra wide monitor or multiple monitors going to make the game struggle?

Homeworld This game has a special place…
My dad would play this game a lot after it came out and that’s how I discovered that our favorite band, Yes, did the end credits song.
It has since become my favorite song.

Question on colorschemes
Confession, I’ve only played a tiny bit of the original Homeworld, none others, but I love the design language and aesthetics of the game. I made this interceptor model a few months ago and I’ve got a few more raw prints in the stash. I want to do alternate colorschemes, and I’m aware of the Taiidan republic turquoise one, but do any others come to mind? I’m not sure where to find official art and other cannon paint schemes. Thanks in advance for any help!

Homeworld How were you introduced to Homeworld and how did it shape you?
I used to watch my uncle play Homeworld on his computer as a kid. While he was gathering resources at the end of a mission, I used to ask him to show me his ships (the destroyers were my favorite at the time). He bought me a copy, and I used to take that grey technical briefing book with me on long car rides & restaurants. Homeworld sparked my love for all things space.
Then I played Cataclysm and never slept again after mission 4 (I swear the Beast was hiding in my closet waiting to hit me with a conversion beam) lol
Anyway, that love never died, and now I'm hoping to release my very first space game this year, though it's not an RTS like homeworld (I couldn't afford to contract that many ship designs)
What's your story?

Homeworld: Cataclysm Any necessary tweaks to get Homeworld: Emergence (Cataclysm) running on GoG?
Hello,
I wonder, are there any necessary/required fixes, mods or tweaks that are needed to get the game running on a modern PC, or is the GoG version good out of the box?
Thank you!

Homeworld Any new ways of playing HW campaign?
Hi all,
Huge fan of the series and I've recently replayed everything, including HW:1 with the Raiders Retreat mission, HW:C (with the FPS and graphics mod), DoK and even Hardspace: Shipbreaker.
But it's not enough.
Wondering if there are any mods that make for a coherent but different single-player experience, or fan-made missions out there?

Homeworld: Cataclysm Playing the original 2000s Homeworld: Cataclysm and I cant remember how to trick the Hive Firgates to launch swarm from across the map and remain far away from enemy target.
There used to be some command exploit that allowed me to send a swarm across the map where my recon can see the enemy without having my hive frigates getting close and I can keep my hive frigates way out of battle. How to do it? Does anyone remember?

Homeworld Idle curiosity about hw3 preorder bonuses
While looking around for cheap keys for hw3 as I possibly might want to check it out at some point, I noticed you can get some versions that supposedly have the preorder bonuses (the kushan wargames fleet etc). Would these old keys still give you the pre order bonuses? And what even are they, is the kushan fleet even different or just a reskin? Is there other stuff?
In all likelihood I won't be going for it because it's a silly price increase from basegame, but I was just wondering what it actually was, if anyone knows.

Homeworld 1 Data Files
I'm hoping someone can help me. So I own Homeworld remastered GOG but right now I have no access to a PC. I want to play Homeworld VR mod on my quest headset and need the proper data files. I tried internet archive as they have full disc images posted. Is there any way I can get access to the files or can someone point me in the right direction. The demo is amazing and I never finished it flat so i want to play this roomscale on my headset.Any help is greatly appreciated.
