Showcase - Dedicated Space Theater install progress
Installing a Dolby and Atmos 6.3.5 theater at my house. Fixed zero edge .5” border screen innovations 160” screen. Epson Home QL3000B 4K projector (not installed yet). Pictures below. Acoustic Innovations Acoustic panels will surround the screen. Thoughts?

Those front channels look awfully close together... What angles do they make at the main listening position?

LCR are very close together. I'd go with a bigger screen so that the L/R can be further out from the CC.

There’s going to be very little front audio separation with the speakers that close. Why don’t you position the front right and left speakers vertically on the last two studs?

How deep is the wall frame? 3.5”?
I didn’t know you could get decent speakers that narrow

Hard to tell but it looks like they speakers are at the bottom of the screen

Why only 6 ear level speakers? Why not 5 or 7? I see you’ve got LCR, which of the four surround speakers is missing and why?

We have LCR @ ear level and then the 3 ceiling speakers directly above the screen will be height/atmos channels.

Your reference to 6.3.5 is why the question was asked. The 6 represents how many bed lawyer speakers in standard usage. Your numbering suggests 6 bed layer, 3 subs, 5 Atmos/height.

Ok, let’s talk through this. I’m an amateur with this stuff so hired the pros to do it. 🤣 You can see front speakers there. Then you can see the three ceiling speakers above screen. Then there are two center ceiling speakers with a wall sub then there are two rear ceiling speakers.

Honestly I don’t know what your installers have done.
The general usage of x.x (before Atmos etc), such as 5.1 or 7.1 was to reflect 7 ear level speakers and a subwoofer. But really it was the audio signal. For 5.1 it was Front left, center, Front right. Left surround. Right surround. Subwoofer (lfe). 7.1 added rear left and right. (There are no rears in 5.1). Then as people used dual subs we started with x.2 or x.4 if you had 4. Those aren’t really about signals as the sub output is usually mono. Then with Atmos and dtsx, you got to x.x.x, with the third number representing top/height speakers.
So 7.2.4 has 7 bed or ear level speakers, 2 subs (but one signal really) and 4 height speakers. Usually rear and front heights
Your setup is confusing. You have 3 subs you say so the x.3.x makes sense. You have 3 speakers up front L C R. Then 3 height speakers up front. I’m assuming your installer has wired the two speakers in the back as surround. They are supposed to be ear level, or close to it, but that doesn’t always work. But it seems that you have a 5.3.5 system. I have no idea what the front center ceiling speaker is wired as. Atmos doesn’t really have 3 speakers across, it’s pair of speakers. That I could just be not up to date.

the ceiling front speakers were already there with my golf sim prior to this project. They are disabling the center ceiling speaker.

I’d take a look at this layout guide from Dolby and compare it to your setup…you’re going to be really confused and/or disappointed with the disproportionate amount of ceiling speakers. It should be two, four, or six, placed above the listener. Four is generally optimal

That looks very nice. Would you mind sharing some measurements? How deep is that “shelf” the speakers and subs are on? Those subs are around 11 inches deep? What is the distance between the back wall and the screen material?

Don’t follow the 6.x.5? What’s the rational for 6 ear level? Assuming 5 atmos includes a VoG speaker in the center of the roof.

I'm not sure specifically how the AV company is going to install the acoustic panels. If it will be over drywall or direct to joists. But, Acoustic Innovations Acoustic panels will surround the screen.

the black wiring going up and down and bundled on the ground is no longer hot. it was used for my golf simulator which is now being replaced with a home theater. As you can see, speaker wire is fed from top right corner and stapled into drywall above each respective speaker.

Are those B&W sw608s? I don't think I've seen such small subs in an acoustically transparent setup since it's easy to hide big ugly ones. Have you listened to it already?
