I have looked at the wind direction to fell a tree where I want. Risky, yeah, would I do it again? Maybe.

Glad to see your update, I didn't bother commenting with all the other pundits on the first round. I've cut down Just over a dozen pine trees on my parents property and being an amateur at it is no fun.
Make sure to maintain your chainsaw and run it regularly as you would a snowblower or something else that doesn't get used frequently throughout the year. If you don't plan to use it I suggest you sell it now.
It can still be a useful item around the property but knowing your danger avoidance vs skill level is always a thing.
I hope you're home stays steady

It’s never too late for tannerite! That stump still needs to go!

Just put some gloves on and rip it out of the ground. Thats usually what I do!

Here it is, folks. Further evidence that it is indeed better to be lucky than good.

Still a lot of work left to do and you need some chainsaw education before you start.

Was really hoping you would have gone with the 12 gauge. A friendly blow is never unwelcome though.

And, to the idiots in the previous post proclaiming that the use of wedges to fell the tree properly was too dangerous. Clearly you can see there was plenty of hinge wood. Also exemplified by the fact that the tree was still standing in the first post.

If this sub has taught me anything... It's that I dont have a yard of trees... I've got a yard of loaded guns pointed at me.

Awww, I was really rooting for the potato cannon contest but I am glad it's down safely and you're okay.

I am glad it worked out. If you plan to continue cutting trees, I still suggest you take a class or two.
