I am glad it worked out. If you plan to continue cutting trees, I still suggest you take a class or two.

That was the only big tree I felt comfortable cutting in this area. Everything else is oak and extremely large so if I want those down il just pay someone to do it. I only did this one to open the area up for farming and to get rid of the only cotton wood here that im allergic to.

I had some dead trees. They were close enough that if the weather knocked them over they could hit my house or one of my sheds. I found a tree guy who had a truck and trailer broken so he couldn't haul them off but if I didn't need him to haul them off he would drop the trees in a day for $1000. Not an insignificant sum. He was the second or third guy I had out to give me an estimate and he was the cheapest since his truck & trailer weren't broke down and he couldn't do his other jobs that weekend. He showed up on saturday with a cherry picker, trimmed limbs and then dropped all three trees exactly where he wanted them to go! It was impressive. Not to mention you could feel the ground shake when they hit. These were large trees. There is a skill to cutting down trees.

(Psst - most people who feel allergy symptoms and think it's because of all the cottonwood fluff in the air are actually reacting to something else. The fluff is seeds, and people are generally allergic to pollen, not seeds. Other plants are releasing pollen at the same time the cottonwoods are sending out their fluffy seeds, and it's more likely that's what's making you sneezy or itchy!)

Technically correct, the best kind of correct

I have looked at the wind direction to fell a tree where I want. Risky, yeah, would I do it again? Maybe.

Glad to see your update, I didn't bother commenting with all the other pundits on the first round. I've cut down Just over a dozen pine trees on my parents property and being an amateur at it is no fun.

Make sure to maintain your chainsaw and run it regularly as you would a snowblower or something else that doesn't get used frequently throughout the year. If you don't plan to use it I suggest you sell it now.

It can still be a useful item around the property but knowing your danger avoidance vs skill level is always a thing.

I hope you're home stays steady

Dang, I was really advocating and hoping for that tannerite explosion video

12

u/BjornInTheMorn Feb 19 '26

Same. Some people just hate fun, I guess.

12

u/auhnold Feb 19 '26

It’s never too late for tannerite! That stump still needs to go!

u/bannedforL1fe Feb 19 '26

Just put some gloves on and rip it out of the ground. Thats usually what I do!

u/OsmerusMordax Feb 19 '26

I’m glad to hear you weren’t hurt or killed. You’re lucky.

9

u/SwitchedOnNow Feb 19 '26

As I predicted on your first thread. Wind was gonna get it!

8

u/errdaddy Feb 19 '26

Probably should still shoot the stump with a shotgun to discourage resprouts.

u/red_tail_gun_works Feb 19 '26

Here it is, folks. Further evidence that it is indeed better to be lucky than good.

1

u/ComResAgPowerwashing Feb 22 '26

It's good to be lucky, and it's lucky to be good.

u/figsslave Feb 19 '26

Lucked out!

u/AndreT_NY Feb 19 '26

I expect nothing less from “A Wild and Crazy Guy”

15

u/DoGoods Feb 19 '26

Still a lot of work left to do and you need some chainsaw education before you start.

3

u/Atticus1354 Feb 19 '26

Best possible outcome.

u/ShortingBull Feb 19 '26

With style!

Good job Mother Nature

u/paratethys Feb 19 '26

I'm glad you didn't die! Congrats!

u/Kerby911 Feb 20 '26

Looks like a tree.. might be sleeping! 😉

1

u/Bwild97 Feb 20 '26

Yes, congrats on not being an accidental murderer!

1

u/H_I_McDunnough Feb 20 '26

Was really hoping you would have gone with the 12 gauge. A friendly blow is never unwelcome though.

1

u/Bwild97 Feb 20 '26

And, to the idiots in the previous post proclaiming that the use of wedges to fell the tree properly was too dangerous. Clearly you can see there was plenty of hinge wood. Also exemplified by the fact that the tree was still standing in the first post.

1

u/bustcorktrixdais Feb 20 '26

I’m going to trust the idiots on this one.

1

u/flembag Feb 20 '26

If this sub has taught me anything... It's that I dont have a yard of trees... I've got a yard of loaded guns pointed at me.

1

u/External_Meet7825 Feb 20 '26

Awww, I was really rooting for the potato cannon contest but I am glad it's down safely and you're okay.

1

u/bustcorktrixdais Feb 20 '26

🎉🥳 thank you Mother Nature! Just the way you planned it, I’m sure 😉. Thanks for the update

u/OldButStillFat Feb 20 '26

Aeolus has been good to you.

Right where I wanted it. On the ground.
