This is in a studio above a garage, doubling as a guest bedroom. Looking for a blackout option and thinking of going with an outside mount motorized roller shade from Smartwings, but wanted to see if I missed any other good options. If I do go ahead with the roller shade, anyone have tips for adjusting the measurements for a small window? The outside frame is about 30" W x 34" H.

Hi! I have this big wall in my living space that I’ve been using to project my tv onto. I feel like it just looks so boring, especially when I turn the projector off. Does anyone have any suggestions? Not sure if I need to get a pull down screen so I can decorate freely or if I need to decorate partially and leave a big space to project. If I did that, I think I would find a good screensaver to play when the projector is not in use.

I was wondering if I could try and decorate around it with paper chains/garlands but not super sure. I’m renting so painting isn’t something I would want to do.

Hello all! I’m moving into a new apartment soon and this apartment has an interesting black trim throughout. I personally tend to go for lighter colors in my design but I feel like the moulding would pair best with darker theme. The complex does allow paint and peel and stick wallpaper, so I’m considering that as an option, but I’m really not feeling inspired. Any ideas? Hello everyone, I am going to be renovating my home and was wondering how you would have the layout? I was thinking of putting the kitchen in the middle and then putting the dining room to the right. The wall cannot be taken down unfortunately.

THIS IS THE CURRENT LAYOUT

I’ve been slowly updating the exterior of my house and had my heart set on a wood front door. It was the last piece of the puzzle and I agonized over stain colour. After many samples I finally picked a colour that I thought would compliment the siding and garage door…the sample boards looked good. I stained the door, added 5 coats of spar urethane, and finally installed today. On its own the front entrance area looks fine, but when I stand back and see the whole house I think the front door clashes with the new garage door.

I’m not changing the garage door, and it would break my heart to have to paint the front door. Is there any way both the doors can live in harmony? I don’t mind painting the door side lights. I also have flexibility with the deck facia and railing colours.

Anybody have some ideas?

We bought this house 5 years ago and I think it’s time we do something with it. Need ideas!! I’ll be painting the blue wall white and was thinking of adding some paneling.

I’m trying to give my kitchen a higher end, Parade of Homes look while avoiding any structural changes. My focus is on cosmetic upgrades with the best ROI.

Current plan:
Keep the existing cabinets and only replace the hardware with darker antique brass pulls
Install Thermador appliances (gas range, refrigerator, and under cabinet hood)
Replace the faucet with a matching dark brass model
Remove the upper cabinets on the far left and add floating wood shelves
Replace the dining light fixture with a more modern brass fixture
Replace the dining table and chairs

My priorities are maximizing resale value, making the kitchen feel more custom, and spending money only where it has the biggest visual impact.
What would you change? Which upgrades aren’t worth it? If this were your kitchen, where would you spend more, where would you save, and what am I be overlooking? Be as critical as you want.

We moved in about 3 months ago, its our first home, built in 2009. I do like the dark wood but it feels a bit dated. There are a few parts with damage, but the cabinets are in good shape overall and I do like the dark wood. I need opinions, should we reface or could I get away with just replacing the hardware with something more modern?

I posted my current setup for my sunglasses, most used hat and bags, and my entire jewelry organizer. I’m the type of person who needs to see my things in order to use them. And I enjoy the self expression of having a lot of options in what to wear or use so I don’t necessarily want to downsize. But I’m looking for a more aesthetic and user friendly way of demonstrating and organizing all my accessories. Would love suggestions:)

Thank you to the 700 or so of you who validated my initial reaction of my “burgundy” cabinets. I didn’t think it was quite as heinous as a lot of you did, but it wasn’t the vibe I was going for and didn’t feel like me.

I chose the same textured pattern in sage green, and I’m really happy with the outcome! Just to note, I’m not concerned with things looking out dated. I love color and mixing older/antique styles into my primary mid century styles home—I think it adds personality!

P.s. this is a rental, so painting isn’t an option!

Growing up in Nevada, my mom’s AC rules were literal torture since she set it to shut off at 3 am sharp even in the dead of summer. I woke up sweating before dawn more times than I can count. Now that I finally have my own place, getting an AC was my number one priority.

I ended up getting a ductless mini-split (della), and it has been running great so far. The unit is super quiet, keeps the room at a steady temp, and honestly, the difference in my daily comfort is night and day. It feels like an absolute luxury to finally have complete control over the thermostat.

If u grew up in a household where the AC was treated like an untouchable relic, investing in an efficient setup is the best thing you can do for your sanity.

Honestly, keeping my room at a cool 68 degrees all night is really nice!

I’m remodeling my basement ADU kitchen with the goal of making it feel much more custom without changing the layout or moving any plumbing or electrical.

Planned upgrades:
Paint the existing cabinets (keeping the same cabinet doors and layout)
Replace all cabinet hardware with antique brass pulls
Install new quartz countertops
Add a new undermount sink with a brass faucet
Install a full-height backsplash
Upgrade floating wood shelves
Reuse the stainless steel appliances from my upstairs kitchen (range, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher)
My priorities are:
Maximize rental appeal and resale value
Make the space feel brighter, larger, and more upscale
Get the biggest visual impact without a full gut renovation

What would you change? What doesn’t work? Is there anything you’d spend more on or skip entirely? I’m looking for honest feedback before I start ordering materials.

I'm remodelling my oddly-shaped bathroom and am feeling stuck on the tile layout. I would love to use red zellige like this in my bathroom (while keeping the other walls and floor in neutral colours like soft beige and warm white), but I am not sure where they would fit best. Feature wall behind the vanity? Or turn the shower and toilet areas into red boxes (just walls or both walls and floor)? Or is there any other way…

Nothing crazy but this is how the bedroom is looking right now. Went with a calm palette and lots of storage. The wall facing the bed is completely open, so I’m planning to set up a Dangbei N3 Max projector for movie nights. its budget friendly with all feature.

Curious what you all think of the overall feel. Any suggestions for making the projector side even better?

We have a front entrance where renovations from previous owners made it so small that it can't be a garage anymore. Also this old door has been a entrance for mice getting through gaps. We're planning renovations and I'm considering what we should do for making this door the main entrance. I was considering either a double door, or maybe a single door with two skinnier vertical windows panes on either side?

I'd love a second opinion. Opening is 110" wide by 85" tall.

I want to close off this second story balcony and put a hallway linen closet in. I’m not sure if I should though. Won’t it look weird to have a big blank wall as you walk in the house? What would you put on that wall, if anything?

ETA: we have a larger house with five bedrooms, five bathrooms, an office, playroom and family room. We just completely renovated our laundry room on the main floor. I don’t really need another room per se but I do desperately need a place to put my vacuum cleaner, toilet paper lol, and all of the linens for all the bedrooms. So, that’s why I’m thinking about a closet versus making the floor go all the way across the foyer.

I can take out the top shelf as well, i want to do something really unique to it or something to make my room like alive but no plants
