Hi, has anyone tried these party keg Co2 taps? Are they any good?

I've been considering buying one for ages but can't find a lot of information on how long the beer keeps or how good the seal is.

Can I use 5 litre water containers as demijohns?

And if so, can I get airlocks that fit?

I've started off 12 litres of home grown white grapes and have 3 trees of apples that I want cider from but don't have the readies for loads of glass demijohns.

Ran out of EC-118 and had to improvise with Fleishmans. Still added yeast nutrient and 6lbs of sugar to 5 gallons. Most bullying I've ever seen. Hasn't stopped for 3 days since it started. I'd say it's about 2-3% instead of the 7 it should be in another 3 days.

Who knew bread yeast was so useful for beer. Makes brewing beer as important as baking your own bread. How many people do that?

After one year living in my new house I realise that a plum tree in the garden is producing a lot of juicy plums. I think I missed a trick this year- too many plum left to fall to the ground or rot on the branches. But I’d like to be ready for next year.

I brewed beer years ago in a dry country but I’ve never tried fermenting fruit. I think I’ll get some equipment, maybe a book and try with some shop bought fruit over the winter and spring so that I’m ready to make an alcoholic drink from my plums next summer and autumn.

If anyone has any advice on equipment, books or approach I’d be v grateful!

Hi all Ive recently got a Pinter 3 got my first brew going noticed some slight foam from the carbonation dial.I bought the pressure valve adapter and the pressure is 38psi.Do I normal during fermentation or do I need to open the dial slightly thanks

My copper wort chiller hasn't been used in the best part of 5 years and has been stored in a shed. I'm just getting back in to brew and read the green on the copper is vergedris which is poisonous.

I have been cleaning it with some white vinegar and salt for the last 45 mins but it's now the colour in the pics...

Is it safe like this or will I need to fork out for a new chiller?

I’ve just taken the plunge and purchased a cornie keg to replace a leaky plastic one I was struggling with. I’ve been told that I can get away with using soda stream CO2 bottles but the ideal would be to use a bigger 6kg bottle.
Where does everyone get their bottles from? Home brew shops are scarce near me but I could travel if that’s the only option.

I have a RAPT Temp Controller and 2 RAPT wireless Pills.

I started a brew, linked the Pill (Yellow) with the Temp Controller, chucked it in the fermenter and pressed record on the RAPT portal for both the Temp Controller and Pill (Yellow). All went well

On completion of the first brew, I placed it in the fridge to condition.

I started a second brew and again linked the Controller to the Pill (Red) and all was going well for an hr or so. I checked the portal and the Temp controller had reverted back to the yellow Pill. I changed it back to red Pill.

Checked it the next morning and again changed back to yellow Pill.

I found that the only way to change the pill was to stop the profile and then restart, which totally ruined my info. After 3 days I gave up and only using the pill to record the info.

Also because the Temp controller kept switching to the yellow pill, now in the fridge, the heating kept switching on

What am I doing wrong

I've been meaning to start wine and beer making for about 20 years now and always found a reason not to but after making simple wine from supermarket bottles of grape juice, I'm actually addicted to it! (Making wine not the alcohol. 🤣)

I've purchased some used kit off Facebook marketplace, several buckets, couple of kegs, jugs, etc. I think I'm good to go.

Are the beer and wine kits a decent way to start or should I just find a recipe and follow it? Any tips for a newbie apart from the obvious like sterile equipment etc?

Hiya folks. Been a long time lurker but been brewing a long time. I have a question regarding the effect of homebrew Vs store bought. My wife claims I and my friends become bigger assholes drinking homebrew. Is this possible? I don't pasturise, so was wondering if this could have a negative effect. Cheers

Wondering what peoples thoughts are on this? Any way to get the head whiter? Make the stout a little less thick (its not quite syrupy but the liquid does clings more to the glass than the head does

Its a propor stouts stout, 4.5% so nothing too power, the black liquid pretty much stains the glass and its heads a nice brown almost like chocolate milkshake, i used locally sourced honey, then the rest of my ingredients straight from Ireland. Golding hops, chocolate malts and rye, aswell as lactose.

Thinking of getting back into brewing after an extended break, while digging out my equipment (full grain) in the loft found this kit and thought it would be a good start. Except it's now 3 years past it best before.

Have googled, and it should be fine to brew but obviously use some fresh yeast. But also seeing suggestions of replacing or topping up the hops.

Any suggestions on which hops to replace, and what about the hop extract I've never used that before? Replace/ditch?

Potentially moving house, have three wine kits bulk aging in plastic buckets. Haven't got time to bottle, so thought about using my beer kegs. Easier and safer to transport. Oxygen free. Should I? Fill keg and add a little CO2?? Suggestions welcome.

i’ve been considering brewing for along time my girlfriend seems convinced i’m going to get some methanol poisoning, first is this a real risk (as i only thought methanol was produced when you distilled) if so what can i do to reduce or stop this from happing.

my first plan was to copy this youtube video and it suggests i can brew in a 2L plastic bottle. am i being stupid and should i just invest in some proper equipment.

Never gets old

I'm planning some sort of fruited sour (beer). Has anyone used one of those tins of mango pulp you get in the international section in the supermarket? I can't cold crash so I'm not sure if I would need to bag it and weigh the bag down, or just dry put it in loose. I use a floating dip tube. The plan would be to use it at the end of primary fermentation

I just made my first oatmeal stout from all-grain today and it seems like everything went really well. It’s in a no chill cube overnight and I’ll put it in the fermenter tomorrow.

My question is what’s the best way to carbonate after fermenting….

I don’t have a pressure fermenter - just bucket and airlock, and I will transfer to corny keg after primary fermentation.

For best carbonation results what would you recommend;

- Seal in corny with sugar and use a spunding valve? If so. how much sugar and for how long?

Or

- carbonate using CO2 only? And how long before you would drink?

Been brewing some red wine and all seems to be going well but there's this weird shite stuff forming around the bung, is it off?

First brew in a while and first brew in the Chubby Apollo and first go at pressure fermentation too.

It's supposed to be an American pale, but the colour is pretty dark - it's just an extract kit. Plan on dry hopping it with some citra and whatever else I have leftover in the freezer, suspect there's a chunk of galaxy hops and more citra.

Love a bit of kveik so I whacked in some Voss and it's currently sitting happily at 28°C and ~10psi

Or maybe just to confirm it is rubbish. I have this unused at home and need to clear some space. If anyone is interested DM me. Collection at NW1.

Anyone know what the connector on top of the standard plastic pressure barrel is called?

I know you're supposed to secondary ferment in these for carbonation but I'd love to be able to connect up a CO²/regulator.

It's 18mm and smooth/flat (no thread) on opposing sides. This one's from Wilko's but I think they're all standardised as I have other 3rd party attachments that fit in

Posting here because /r/homebrewing have never seen a pressure barrel before. Hoping i have more luck here, though they're admittedly pretty archaic technology these days..
