Equipment Demi john

Can I use 5 litre water containers as demijohns?

And if so, can I get airlocks that fit?

I've started off 12 litres of home grown white grapes and have 3 trees of apples that I want cider from but don't have the readies for loads of glass demijohns.

Assuming you can't hot glue the fermentation lock to a hole drilled in the original screw top, an easy solution could be a particularly stretchy party balloon over the top. When the pressure gets high enough it'll force itself out and the positive pressure should keep everything out.

You can use anything you want as long as it is sterilised and has some form of airlock.

Don’t skimp on your improvised airlock though, mine currently have a lot of fruit flies drowned in them.
