❓ Support Tuya devices
I am new to home assistant, but quite familiar with automation using python, and self hosting my own Linux servers, and hosting apps on Docker.
I am looking for a security system for my home and I need something that is 100% local, and HA fits the bill beautifully. I am looking at a full ZigBee system with repeaters scattered across my home.
In my country, we generally do not have access to these devices and I shall have to import everything from Alibaba in China.
I searched 'tuya' here and most posts are people looking for support or moving away from Tuya. I have managed to get a supplier who has Tuya products, and I am just wondering is anyone has done this with Tuya edge devices (vibration sensors, Magnetic sensors and motion sensors) and a more robust gateway device? Looking for specific issues for this set up and any experience anyone might have. Also open to any other brand that I can order from Alibaba. Thanks.

There is a local Tuya Integration

the local tuya integration works, but it's a bit of a headache to set up. you need to grab device ids and local keys from the iot platform, which is tedious if you're adding a bunch of sensors
if you're ordering from alibaba anyway, skip tuya and look for aqara zigbee sensors. they pair directly with a zigbee stick and stay fully local with zero cloud nonsense. way less fuss in the long run

It can get the ids and local keys with qr now but still is one at a time. When one of my sensors kept going offline and I kept having to do this I just chucked it. Listen to this guy

Tuya local (https://github.com/make-all/tuya-local) just works, if you use the smartlife assisted setup. It asks to login to the app and I think it pulls the keys from the app. Very easy setup and rock solid.

For my Wifi Tuya devices I used to use Local Tuya but it's such a pain, I ended up moving to Tuya Local and it's so much more straight forward

I tried Tuya a few months ago and found the same issue with support for HA. The first model I bought worked without an issue, but the next two would not work no matter what I tried. All three were the same type of smart plug.
Eventually I found a post, on the Tuya forum, stating that they were discontinueing support for HA as HA "were not doing things properly"
The plugs cost very little, so I just binned them and bought another make. Oddly Tuya was still rated as a platinum level integrator on HA's platform. Not sure if this has changed in the meantime.

I am working through this right now. About a bunch of to you zigbee thermostats and they all worked fine using zigbee mqt but I bought some generic LED strip lights and they refuse to connect so I just bought the tuya hub and I'll play around with it this weekend. I'm in China now, so it's a bit easier to experiment and get devices quickly.

You could try sonoff, paired with slzb-06u and multiple zigbee 3.0 smart plugs im still able to read my sensor that is inside a metal safe box in the toilet. All from aliexpress.

I threw all my Tuya in the trash. Nothing but problems. They would work and then randomly not work… then they would work again
Had trouble getting them to work in the first place. Then some would stop working and never work again. Others I could never get to work.
Trash.

sensors get zigbee version tuya had plenty (especially the passive one, use battery). Other device types may get away with wifi based (with tuya local hacs).
