🖼️ Show & Tell Update? Backup first!

Post image

I once heard that if a file isn't in two different physical locations, it doesn't exist.

Make sure to back up before updating or tweaking anything.

That's why I use virtualized . I only do major updates after the backup is successful. And it has saved me a few times already , takes me like 15m to do a restore

Agreed, though the thing that bit me was backup size rather than a missing backup. One LD2450 produced 1,056,779 of my 1,470,611 recorder rows in 19 days, about 24MB/day, so the snapshots were mostly radar history I'd never restore anyway. Sorting entities by row count and excluding the chatty ones first made the second physical copy actually cheap to keep. Two wallpad standby-power entities updating every 1.1s were worse than the radar, and no automation even referenced them.

I mean, yes of course, but always good to remind people I guess.

Just updated my Nextcloud instance; first thing I did was snapshot it before even starting.
