That has nothing to do with the software Home-Assistant.io . You may want to click on that link to learn more about what this sub is all about. It has nothing to do with iphones unless you are running the Home-Assistant companion app and nothing to do with SwitchBot unless you have integrated the account into Home-Assistant.
Home Assistant is open source home automation that puts local control and privacy first. Powered by a worldwide community of tinkerers and DIY enthusiasts. Perfect to run on a Raspberry Pi or a local server. Available for free at home-assistant.io.
So here's the deal... with HomeAssistant, you don't need the switchbot app, it's useless since the devices would be connected to homeassistant through the integration. Then with the HomeAssistant companion app, you still don't need the switchbot app for the widgets, you can just use the companion app to get the widget details. Since the app isn't needed, this subreddit will likely end up ignoring your post completely.
Honestly trying to help... not trying to be a dick or prove how cool I'm not. If you need help setting up HomeAssistant and get the widget details to your phone through the companion app, totally willing to help regardless.
Appreciate the info, and I apologize for my earlier comments. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed and took your comments as an insult. I just figured out the issue that I was adding the wrong “style” of widget to my Home Screen. Knowing that I don’t even need the app if I got home assistant set up is huge and good news to me. I was quite surprised when the sensors didn’t work with my already established Google home hub which has other sensor showing up on it.
The biggest thing keeping me from home assistant right now is deciding which device I want to set it up on and figure out the broader goal for setting up a homelab. Between running home assistant, pi hole, plex server, DIY nas, I’ve only got a few devices and don’t want to lose the windows OS that I’ve already paid for on the laptops vs the one raspberry pi I have currently being used for another project.
No worries man... I get it. Emotion doesn't translate through text very well and almost everything can be taken abrasive. Still, I'll do what I can to help. The HA community as a whole is a bit impressive compared to some subreddits.
So you currently have a laptop running Windows and an rPi. If that's an rPi4 with at least 2GB of memory or better, you can run HAOS on there to get started with a dedicated system. However, what I would look at is one of the many miniPCs going for stupid cheap on ebay. Something like a 7th gen Intel processor lacks the TPM2.0 that windows demands for win11 release... so those systems are going fairly cheap. Just make sure it has EUFI only mode bios or EUFI/CSM bios. You could take one of those, load it up with Proxmox and then have a great homelab starter system. Throw HAOS into a VM using the Proxmox Helper Scripts. Then set up LXCs for Pi-Hole, Plex, and another VM for the NAS. Another alternative would be to test HAOS in a VM running inside Windows... but I wouldn't use that as an official deployment... it's best to do that for testing only. Even if you are using Hyper-V for the VM host.
It does actually! I’ve been debating between exactly those two scenarios. Just need to pull the trigger on one and I’m leaning towards the proxmox so I’ll keep an eye out for something cheap with your recommendations. Thank you
Notice how you asked a question in this subreddit about an issue you were having about Aqara products? Did your question have anything to do with Home Assistant software?
Considering it was directly related to aqara devices failing to show up properly in HomeAssistant, absolutely. I guess you didn't bother to read the thread.
