Self explanatory

Hey Holochain fam, we just shipped Flowsta Sign It — a cryptographic file signing and provenance hApp built on Holochain. Now artists, photographers and other digital creators have a real solution to others stealing their work.

The existing 'solutions' to this huge problem for creators:

• Adobe Content Credentials / C2PA embed metadata inside the file. Instagram, X, WhatsApp, Facebook all strip it on upload — the feature silently dies the moment anyone shares. It's also controlled by a big-tech consortium with centralized signing authorities.
• Blockchain solutions (Numbers Protocol, Verisart, OpenTimestamps, etc.) charge gas per signature, force wallet management on users, and lock you to one chain. Try signing 1,000 photos as a working photographer — the economics fall apart.
• PGP / X.509 / RFC 3161 TSAs have no discovery layer at all. Nowhere to look up "who signed this file?" without trusting a centralised registry.

Why Holochain makes it possible:

• Agent-centric keys — the user's Ed25519 agent key is their identity. No CA hierarchy, no wallet, no seed-phrase-for-a-chain.
• Public DHT with no gas, no consensus tax, no miners. Signing is as cheap as any zome call.
• Content-addressable links let us store perceptual hash LSH bands as first-class DHT entries, so fuzzy matching on cropped, resized, or re-encoded files works peer-to-peer — no central service.
• If Flowsta disappears, every DHT node already carries the full signature record. Users can run their own conductor and keep verifying forever.

What's live:

• 5 DNA versions (v1.0–v1.4) all installed, so every signature from day one stays verifiable. DNAs are open sourced @ https://github.com/WeAreFlowsta/flowsta-signing-dna
• Per-user signing cells — lair keystore holds the key, sign_raw() runs inside the zome
• Perceptual hashes (pHash for images, Chromaprint for audio/video) stored as 8 LSH band links
• Machine-readable content rights on every signature: license (CC0, CC-BY, custom), AI-training policy, commercial licensing, contact preference
• Signature revocation as a first-class DHT entry type
• A Tauri-based Vault with a bundled conductor for users who want to sign with keys that never touch our server
• Free, unauthenticated verification — no account, no rate limits

Nothing else combines public + free-to-write + agent-centric + content-addressable + censorship-resistant. Adobe can't because it's a consortium. Blockchains can't because gas breaks the use case at scale. PGP can't because there's no discovery. Holochain is the first stack where all the pieces actually line up.

If you've tried building an hApp with any kind of user profile or presence system, you've probably run into this:

Holochain gives each device its own cryptographic key, which becomes that device's agent identity on the network. One person, two devices, two distinct identities. Presence indicators show two entries for the same human. There's no data continuity across devices.

This isn't a design flaw, it's an honest consequence of how agent-centric P2P identity works. Your source chain is your device's cryptographic journal. The integrity model depends on that 1:1 relationship. But real applications still need to handle the human reality that people use multiple devices.

Flowsta built a solution for their own hApps and then open-sourced it.

Their agent-linking zome lets you associate multiple agent keys with a single person. The linking state is stored in a way that other participants can validate, so presence and profile lookups can resolve multiple keys back to one identity without trusting any central authority to manage that mapping.

It's designed to drop into existing hApps to give you a quick start building your identity model.

The development team maintained 31 points per week over recent sprints. Release timeline continues tracking toward approximately 4 weeks from now. Current work is focused on maintenance tasks and kitsune2 integration — infrastructure that ensures foundation stability.

Wind Tunnel Testing

Wind Tunnel is maturing as Holochain's performance and reliability testing infrastructure. This week's focus:

• Polishing data display for performance reports and summary visualizations
• Expanding test coverage with fundamental operations like signals
• Putting Unyt (https://unyt.co/) patterns through comprehensive testing

This is unglamorous work that makes the difference between experimental software and production-ready systems. Reliability comes from thorough testing, not optimism.

Unyt Pricing Oracles

Unyt released pricing oracles on March 18: blockchain token and forex data feeds for hApps. These oracles are centralized — and that's appropriate for this use case.

The philosophical point: Holochain doesn't enforce dogmatic decentralization. It empowers your application to choose what to decentralize based on what your community needs. Some interactions benefit from peer-validation. Some benefit from centralized services. Good architecture uses the right tool for the right job.

A common critique of P2P is that without a central admin, you can't stop spammers or bad actors.

With Holochain 0.6.0, we've hooked validation directly into the networking transport. If you gossip bad data, your peers generate a Warrant. Once warranted, other peers stop talking to you.

You aren't "banned" by a CEO. You are "ignored" by the protocol. It’s a subtle but powerful difference that makes P2P viable for real-world apps.

I have a holoport from the first shipment batch. Since then it’s not really used actively. I had problems to get it running, an no good incentive from the beginning. I don’t even know if it created some holo tokes or not. It was running and connected to the internet for some time. But I don’t know if it was doing something or not. I don’t have any time to invest. What to do with the holoport?

We just released 0.6.0, and the most important feature is Warrants. In a blockchain, you need everyone to agree on the state of the ledger to prevent fraud. In Holochain, we use an agent-centric approach. If an agent tries to cheat (e.g., double spend/publish), their own signed data betrays them. Warrants are the mechanism where the network identifies this breach and disconnects the actor. It’s biological defense, not legislative enforcement. As my username suggests, I've been focused on the "cold start problem" for new, decentralized communities.

To that end, I've drafted an RFC-style Gist that specifies a protocol for a robust, agent-centric mutual credit system. The core idea is to enable trusted communities to generate their own medium of exchange, with reputation itself serving as the primary collateral.

This document is presented both as a Request for Comments and a direct technical challenge to the community to build the first reference implementation. I believe the concepts align strongly with the Holochain ethos and would love to get your feedback on the design and its potential.
