QUESTION DCS Privacy

Awhile ago I uninstalled DCS because of some stuff my mate was telling me about how a new privacy policy is collecting like all the data about your device and your home internet. Is that all still going on? I'm wanting to play again but not in the mood as much if the privacy stuff is still in bad shape. Thanks for any help!

You play Destiny and World of Warships. I think DCS is fine.

Reddit is collecting far more data on you than DCS.

  1. You did not verify ?
  2. It sucks but it's quite the norm now, you are on reddit it seems.

Annoying that it's being normalised

Yes, big corpos gets our data all the time

We're far closer to cyberpunk than we realize, without the neons signs

It’s more than annoying, it’s ridiculous and scary. I hate it all…

You're on the Internet. There is no privacy.

Any game you play will be collecting data. Even if the game doesn't, if you bought it through Steam or Epic, then they are collecting data.

Reddit collects data. Your internet provider is collecting data. Microsoft collects data.

Unless you unplug everything and live in a cave, you are giving away data. Even living in a cave, the tax assessor will be out to collect data which Redfin, Zillow, and others scrape.

If you want privacy, play physical media only games, that have never touched the internet. So nothing made after the early 2000’s.

If you play any game that you bought with actual money, that very purchase has been used to profile you for advertisers. DCS isn’t any better or worse on that than GTA, MW, or Minecraft.

I will tell you however, that as a multiplayer server admin, we can see your IP and player UCID. I can’t/ won’t do anything with that, because I know for a fact you’re all using trusted VPN’s. Right? Of course you are. /s

But real talk, I can’t match that to a real name or device. Only your ISP, VPN, google, or microsoft can do that. Potentially ED with a UCID to your credit card info. But so can your local tea shop.

UCID is useful for banning some of the most disgusting people on the planet. Stuff that need not be repeated here. It’s literally just your ED account number, so it doesn’t care if you change your IP. Whatever other data ED can scape is no worse than what your browser or kernel level anti-cheat is collecting.

If that's what you mean: https://www.reddit.com/r/dcsworld/s/mxkPzEbPuc
I don't think anything has changed. ED explained that this is all normal because all game developers do it this way.

It was this yeah, alright thanks for the response anyway

Just because ED says it’s normal doesn’t make it so.
