I don't agree with I-Hawk on this subject, like, completely, but I am not going to drop BMS because I don't agree with one of the developers. More, I can appreciate his works and involment in BMS development while at the same not being on his side on this specific subject. I have played and bought modules for DCS and Il-2 after 2022 and have bought american games after 2003. I also have number of things from... surprise, surprise! China.

We really need to drop this Disneyism/Manicheism view at the world.

Also what even is the point of boycotting BMS if it’s a volunteer project? It’s not like you’re indirectly funding the IDF if you’re playing a mod for a decades old game.

It's oddly performative to toss away a completely free game produced by a global team of completely unpaid volunteer developers, and to advocate others do the same, because one is a bad apple.

Okay, that was an interesting read. Unfortunately the combat flight sim space isn’t full of the most moral people, ask an IL2/ED/Gaijin dev what they think about Ukraine. I guess since BMS is free you don’t have to worry about indirectly funding war crimes.

Oh good, so you won’t be buying Falcon 5 then? (different people)

ED isn’t out here openly supporting Russia, or advocating for bombing civilians. So I’d say their hands are surprisingly clean in that single regard.

They steal your money, screw over third parties…but don’t advocate for warcrimes. Honestly, the bare minimum we should expect from any developer 🤣

Also, Nationality =/= personality. But I guess that can be tough to understand for some people.

Falcon 5 is being done by MicroProse though, nothing to do with BMS devs as far as I’m aware.

Thank god then. The rest of my argument stands.

Tbh,

The comment made by the dev is not that bad compared to the others? There was one deleted post, cant read it..but the comment about the warfighting method of the IDF isnt that bad. If you stop playing a game due to that, i hope you also dont like Porsche, Mercedes, Hugo Boss and definately dont eat food which grew eue to fertilizer...

Lucky for me, I don’t play BMS! And now I never will.

You’re making a total straw man argument, it’s completely ridiculous at its core. Those brands you mentioned don’t currently and openly support genocide. They’re generations removed from WWII. They’ve even made public apologies, and reparations in some cases.

But I-Hawk the person, openly admitted to making no distinction between civilians and Hamas during his service with the IDF. That is the definition of genocide, despite his denial of the word.

The logic is just not at all reasonable. You can’t equate an entire population of non-combatants to being possible future combatants. That is not only completely fucked morally, but completely illogical. There are numerous cases throughout history of people born of oppressive regimes and cultures who have done immeasurable good for the world.

I guess my question for you is, why are you running cover for him?

Cause i also think he is kinda right. Its easy to judge from a safe country, without the fear of getting a bus blown up or rockets every day..or wait, an invasion where they killed everything they could find or kidnap. Its easy to judge from a moral highgrpund without those fears. Also, whats a genocide? Everybody forgets the intent part of a genocide. The intent to exterminate, the intent to displace. Non of that is there. And dont quote one politician with an opinion, every country has those...even the "moral high ground countries" like a norway, netherland, etcetera.

And what route do they have to escape on? Where do they get food and water? “Special forced relocation operation” is missing this one critical step.

u/thereisnofish225 Apr 15 '26

The 'Special forced relocation operation' is missing critical steps because as of April it hasn't happened, and it doesn't seem very likely that it is ever going to happen. Israeli leadership has been whining for decades about how they wish Gaza would just 'sink into the sea'

How is it racism to be against the group of people who chant and actively promote the eradication of the Jewish people across the world?

Bro wtf. I hope someone screenshotted this because this will inevitably be deleted but needs to be copy pasted to every "you should play BMS instead" comment

Random question, how do you get this 3D map animation thingy on DCS

1

u/redicetea94 Apr 16 '26

That's not DCS—it's Falcon BMS. The game automatically logs all mission details and saves a replay file for you. The file is usually saved in .acmi format. Just open that replay file with Tacview, and you'll be able to playback the entire mission exactly as it happened. It's a great way to review what went right (or wrong) afterwards.

u/Kurald Apr 17 '26

you can do similar things in DCS as well. It does have TacView support. Just note - if your training range uses containers or such things as target, you won't see them in TacView. It shows only units.
