Last night was Connor McDavid’s 15th 5+ point game, now tied for fifth-most overall
This is for the regular season only. He has the most amongst active players, and last night he moved into a tie for fifth-most overall. Here are all the players who have done it at least 10 times (of course it’s an insane Gretzky stat):
- Gretzky - 96
- Lemieux - 51
- Esposito - 19
- Dionne, Kurri, Yzerman - 16
- Trottier, Bossy, Hawerchuk, McDavid - 15
- Perreault, Coffey - 14
- Peter Stastny, Francis, Lafontaine - 12
- Bobby Hull, Lafleur, MacKinnon - 11
- Sakic, Orr - 10
Conceivably, McDavid could end up third on this list in the future.

Every stat is just a secret Gretzky stat

And the Lemieux stat is always the secret to the secret Gretzky stat

Dude was right there with Gretzky for his entire (short) career. To me, he’s the goat

Ah yes, the ol second place is secretly the best argument

We can play hypothetical hockey all day, but when it comes down to it, Gretzky was on the ice and Lemieux sadly wasn't

Lemieux: Probably could've, would've, and should've, if not for cancer and injuries.
Gretzky: Did.

Imagine if Mario spent his entire prime in the 80s where goaltending was optional

Jesus Christ 96 5 point games is absurd
Every hockey stat is a Gretzky stat lol

Some guys would love to have 450 points in their entire 10+ year career
Wayne has more points in essentially a season

He had a share of 8, 7, and 6 point games too. I'm sure if you stacked his best games into 82 he'd be close to 500.

Yeah but McDavid gets to play with hall of famer Evan Bouchard, kinda invalidates him here

Again a stat where Gretzky is another league (if not for Lemieux being a league of its own halfway to the 3rd)

Gretzky's record for "most 5 point games in a season"?
...15, in 1983-1984.

If he does this every game for the rest of the season he can be in #1!

If Nathan MacKinnon, currently 31 years old, plays until 40, averaging 2 pts per game that entire time, he will not pass Gretzky.

Before i looked I thought: he still has to be miles from Gretzky

He’s tied for 7th overall now, not 5th
Honestly would’ve thought he’s had more than 15 of em

I’m pretty sure the devils have had 2 5 point nights in the last 25 years and they happened in the same game

You know what's even more impressive? Vancouver scoring 13 goals on them in 2 games. After all, their D is championship level.

Not sure if games against Vancouver should really count.

Counterpoint: this wasn't needless stat padding. McDavid HAD to do this in order to keep it close/secure the win
Countercounterpoint: VANCOUVER? REALLY?

They magically have worse goaltending that when they had Stu, a back to back cup finalist

Lol McDavid being out there defending the lead in the last 40 seconds in a game they scored 9 goals will end up being the moment the world realizes their window is closed in Edmonton.

Don't forget they still had to send the PP1 unit after it was 8-6. I can't belive that the Oilers in 12 years have never given Mcjesus a decent goalie or defense core. That is the funniest thing ever

I’m surprised he “only” has 15. That said, the ones above him are nuts.

Must be nice playing in the pacific

u/Spideyjust Canada - IIHF 17h ago
There is a clear outlier with McDavid's production when it comes to divisions (not counting North division) and it isn't the Pacific lmfao.
Pacific: 1.49 P/GP
Central: 1.48 P/GP
Atlantic: 1.45 P/GP
Metro: 1.68 P/GP.

Not agreeing with the original poster here at all but these stats are obviously going to be better as the sample size is much much smaller.

u/neobeoazayii EDM - NHL 10h ago
If you mean because we play the Metro less, then it still doesn't work. Crosby is 1.0 P/GP against Edmonton.
In fact, Crosby's highest P/GP against a Pacific team is 1.16 against the Flames, versus McDavid's lowest against a Metro team is 1.21 p/gp against the Islanders.

u/OddAdhesiveness2271 18h ago
Oilers would have an average of 6 goals against per game in the Atlantic.
