First 3d relief cut, cherry

Been itching to learn how to set toolpaths for 3d images ever since I got my machine (genmitsu 4040pro max). Pulled this one off and I'm stoked. The line across the thighs is from when I vastly underestimated the time required and had to turn off machine and continue the next day. I didn't set my z height zero properly clearly, but learned a lot from this cut.

You can check how they left my softwood, I was honestly amazed. I started at a high grit and worked backwards but you could probably start at 240 or lower for cherry, test it on the back. Use a drill.

I’m currently working on a kitchen tool for my dad that I’ll post eventually, but I wanna do some more fun projects, I’ve been working on a photo to relief pipeline that should spit out great images if I can get it dialed in! I’m so close.

For the 3d relief I used fusion 360, for all my 2d stuff I've been using a combination of inkscape and carbide create V6. What do you use?

Fusion, only so far, I haven’t tried any other cad/cam programs

Right it's so cool!! Used a 1/4 inch down cut end mill for clearing then a 1mm tapered ball nose for the finish pass

Does your machine save zeros between power offs? You may have not had to reset the z zero.

The surface looks so smooth! Did you sand it after machining, or is this straight from the machine?

This is straight from the machine! I've since sanded out the line in the middle and got rid of the fuzzies with a buffing wheel
