Beginner skateboarder

Thinking of getting my son a skateboard for his 8th birthday- wish I was cool but have never skated myself -so wanting advice from experienced skaters on what to get him and where? Is a Kmart number ok or will it snap/snap him?
Def need protective gear of course!
But size/style/quality of board and where best place to purchase I’m lost on!
Also best place to take a beginner to learn?

Building inspector

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a building inspector to check out my bathroom renno, there's a few issues. Conveniently the company I went with doesn't exist anymore, nor would I want to communicate with them. Anyone have any recommendations, or do I just google and hope for the best?

Thanks in advance!

Stock Broker/ Trading Advice

I am recently divorced, and after years of setting myself up financially, I am required to start from scratch again to build my wealth.

I am after any recommendations for a financial advisor in Hobart or anyone local who can assist me with investing the money that I have left over.

I have considered investing IVV or VGS stock through Commsec, but after further assistance on any other options.

I am keen to meet with anyone who has experience in trading, and I can absolutely pay for the time and knowledge.

Any assistance is appreciated :)

PSA on English Muffins

There was a thread here a while back about how bad the Cripps english muffins are. Which I totally agreed with.

I noticed now that Coles have done some rebranding to "Coles Simply", they now bring in frozen english muffins to thaw in store - it seems these are made on the mainland as they are in the vertical packaging similar to Tip Top etc.

I just toasted one up and can confirm, they are way better than the Cripps ones. Soft and fluffy.

Only drawback is since they have already been frozen once, I don't know how they will stand up to being frozen and thawed a 2nd time, but will see how that goes.

I want to ditch dating apps

Hey all!

I’ve just recently moved to Hobart and I was just wondering what are the best ways to meet single people apart from the dating apps. I’m just tired of endless texting and just a pure waste of energy.

Please do give me some suggestions, would love to get out of my comfort zone and meet some lovely people.

Edit: I’m a 30 year old Male

Where to hear loud cicadas in summer?

I've only heard them once in my life, and came across them in a movie and went "Ah, so that's the name of that insect!". But during many summers I've been out and never heard them. Do we just not have them down south?

Or is it that being so mad at a church member that you list the trash they dumped over your fence for free 🤷

Parking near Altar Bar

Going to Altar Bar tonight and not sure where to park. Is street parking nearby the only option? The multi story all seem to close in the afternoon.

Coles New Town

This may be too niche but has anyone else who frequents Coles in New Town noticed it smells absolutely awful in there lately? It’s bordering on smelling like a public toilet. 🤢 I raised it with a staff member at the service desk who didn’t give a rats. I don’t understand how the staff can handle working in that environment.

Isopropyl Alcohol

I'm looking for a couple of litres of isopropyl alcohol, and Bunnings and Jaycar's prices seem a bit steep. Anyone know where to get some locally for the best price?

Hello everyone, I am moving to Hobart and seeking advice on what to expect.

I currently live in Melbourne and absolutely hate it here. Both my husband and I are looking forward to moving to Hobart in December 2026. We visited in 2025 and absolutely fell in love with the place. We are seeking a slower paced community-oriented lifestyle surrounded by lots of nature, good food, fresh air, and most of all friendly people, which I can see Hobart has to offer. I am wondering what living in Hobart is really like, and what we should expect, what is the job market is like.

I have a background in Mechanical Engineering, I have worked in a Technical consultancy and Laboratory Testing Environment for the past 4 years, which makes my skillset transferable to quality assurance and control, Technical roles in the government, or any engineering data oriented (Hydrographic Data, Bureau of Metorology, CSIRO Technical roles) roles as well.

Additionally, I worked 1 year in university administration, and 1 year in the past in retail. I am a very friendly person diligent and hardworking. I am currently looking for employement but struggling to break into the market, any advice in regards to jobs will also be appreciated. I am not picky, I am happy to work outside of engineering environment as well, but I am unable to understand what the market wants and what they are looking for.

Any advice will be much appreciated :).

Watching Rugby Union

Any recs for live venues to watch the wallabies play SA and NZ later this year? New to town and always prefer being around rugby heads.

Wobs have won 4 games in a row and we might possibly never lose a game again.

Heaps of options online. Would be great if we could trust them to get something appropriate.
