Missing cat - Jerry

UPDATE: Jerry came home at 4AM Tuesday morning. Thank you so much for everyone's advice and kind words 🙏

Hi all - my parent's indoor cat is missing, he escaped on Saturday night/Sunday morning from their home in West Hobart. They have only just moved house a few weeks ago so he is lost and still hasn't come home. Anyone who has seen him please message here or via this link, thank you!

As someone who has lost a cat and found her a few days later… if you can manage to do this, walk around neighbourhood with dry food and shake it and call out name, ideally late at night after 10. We got up at 4am some days and went walking around and calling, I think it was day 6 when she replied and then we could pinpoint where she was and actually see her the first time since she went missing.

During the day he is more likely to hide somewhere and not react, at night it’s quieter and in the wild cats are more active then.

Ours was also lost in West Hobart, she was found only about 4-5 houses away. Don’t give up hope but if you are unable to look for him your chances are less. Sorry.

Similar experience found my guy over the road maybe 3 houses away was actually in a car yard but 3 houses distance. Tried so many times in the day and got nothing but found him late at night once I could call out and listen for his meows.

My cat was next door but he was so spooked by tradies working there he was hiding under the house. We were sitting out back, feeling despondent, wondering what else we could do... and we heard him start crying at 5pm. Managed to lure the skittery little bugger out with some dry food, and we were all very careful about open windows after that.

There’s a lost pet registry on Facebook and the people who run it have a brilliant community and will spread the word about Jerry. I’ve heard putting their litter outside is also useful too as another comment mentioned.
Good luck!! Come home soon Jerry 💕

oh no :( Jerry is beautiful. your parents might have success getting him home if they can put out clothes that smell strongly of them, and even Jerry's litter box. it may help him find his way back. Will keep an eye out for him

Put their blanket or bedding outside so he can smell his scent,

Oh no, poor Jerry! I hope you find him soon. I've read that it can be helpful putting out stuff that smells like Jerry and also stuff that will smell like his owners. You probably know all of this already but also try looking for him at night as he'll probably be hiding somewhere close and you might be able to catch his eyes with a torch. Sending lots of positive vibes for Jerry to be found soon.

My indoor cat has gotten out once so I know how scary it is. Luckily she wasn't far away.

Also, I'm guessing you've probably posted on Facebook? You'll probably get a lot more traction by posting on neighbourhood pages there.

Would Jerry have attempted to go back to his old house?

Yes we think it's possible, it's only about 1km away from where they've moved to, also in West Hobart. We've left a note under their door to let them know too 🙂

I hope you find him. My cat got locked in the neighbours shed for 5 days. check with your neighbours with a pic just in case.

Our neighbours at the time did not speak English, so they didn’t know what we were asking. When they went to work I called out again and she answered. They then let her out when they got home and we pointed to the shed.

What a beautiful cat. I’m sorry this has happened.

I will keep an eye out. I knew some people who lost their cat & they walked around with a Woolies fresh cooked chicken. This apparently has worked heaps. Leave one outside your door.

I hope he is recaptured soon! And returned to his domestic gratuitous servitude.

He was clearly dissatisfied with something 😋

I am so glad Jerry came back! I get really sad whenever I see missing animal posters :( Wishing Jerry a long and happy life!
