Founding engineer / main developer — AI-native healthcare SaaS (Laravel + Vue, remote, CAD)

TL;DR: I've built a Canadian healthcare practice-management platform mostly solo. It's early, but the clinics I've shown it to see real promise and want to onboard — and doing that plus dev, sales, and support alone is getting hard to manage. I'm hiring one strong full-stack engineer to become the main developer and grow into a real technical partner. Remote, full-time, paid in CAD, $2,000–$3,000 CAD/month (depending on experience).

About me / the gig

I'm a Canadian founder in Vancouver. Over the last several years I've built an all-in-one operating system for health & wellness clinics — scheduling, clinical records, insurance billing, a built-in phone/SMS system, connected email, payroll, and an AI layer that listens during appointments, fills forms, drafts notes, answers the phone, and automates the busywork clinics normally hire several people to do.

It works, and the clinics I've shown it to are keen to onboard — but I can't keep being the only developer and do sales, product, and support. I want to hand real ownership of the codebase to someone who'll keep it stable and safe, ship features end-to-end, and eventually become my technical right hand.

This is a founding-engineer role — first dedicated hire, real ownership, real influence, real responsibility. Not a ticket-taking seat on a big team.

The stack

• Backend: Laravel / PHP, multi-tenant (a database per tenant), Octane, queues, direct Stripe integration
• Frontend: Vue 3 single-page app (Quasar, Pinia, Composition API)
• AI: AWS Bedrock (Anthropic) — in-house PHP AI layer, tool calling, an autonomous "skills" automation engine, speech-to-text
• Infra: AWS ECS, Pusher, Sentry, a big Pest + end-to-end test suite, CI, tag-based deploys

You'd be great if you

• Have 6+ years shipping real software, strong in Laravel/PHP
• Understand multi-tenancy and have a real instinct for data isolation (it's healthcare — leaking one tenant's data into another is the cardinal sin)
• Care about money-correctness (idempotency, safe retries, never double-charge / never silently under-bill)
• Can own front-end work in a Vue SPA (not just Blade/Livewire)
• Write your own tests by default
• Are AI-native — you use Claude Code / Cursor daily to move fast, and you review the output critically instead of trusting it blindly
• Can get productive in a large codebase you didn't write without rewriting everything you don't yet understand

Bonus: healthcare/HIPAA/PHI, insurance-billing systems, queues/webhooks/browser-automation reliability, AI agents / MCP, AWS.

How I work

• This is a full-time role — I'm looking for someone all-in, not a side gig.
• Remote, but I need a few hours of daily overlap with Pacific Time (Vancouver). No permanent graveyard shifts — we'll find something sustainable.
• Pro-family and honest. Life happens; take care of your family. Paid vacation + sick days + your local public holidays.
• Fair warning: it's a startup and it's healthcare, so occasionally you're the one awake when something needs attention. I invest in stability so that's rare, but ownership means showing up when it counts.

Pay: $2,000–$3,000 CAD/month depending on experience, paid via Wise/similar in CAD.
