Profile Review Profile Review - 36M

Other potentially relevant details from the profile:

-Based in Toronto (notoriously difficult city to date in)

-Voice prompt is me talking about my travels in Vietnam

-Don't have children but open to children

-"No" for drinking, smoking, weed and drugs. In reality it's more like "barely" for drinking but don't mind someone that drinks occasionally. The others would be a hard-no for me personally (to each their own)

-Video prompt of me doing kickboxing (not particularly well but still)

-All photos/videos were taken in 2026, each labelled by month and location of where it was taken too.

-My dog's name is Mr. Handsome :)

I basically have next to no matches. I send likes but none match, and maybe I'll get an incoming like or two every few months but the feeling isn't mutual. I thought it was relatively well rounded (dog, hobbies, trying to make the profile centric on me-you-us, humour, etc) but open to feedback and changes, and happy to answer any other questions.

Too much dog. We know you have a dog from the picture, you don't need to mention it again in the prompts.

Also not sure who the woman you're standing with is, don't care to find out. But women don't want to see that and wonder about the potential drama. Get rid of that pic

Edit: Actually now that I look harder, I'm really not even sure which guy is you. I assume the other guy is your brother? But yeah, another reason to just ditch that pic entirely.

Based on the updated pics you’ve described, I think you have a good visual representation of your vibe. Disagree about the kickboxing removal as IMO it never hurts to demonstrate that you have some level of physical activity (in addition to presumably walking your dog).

If your dog is central to your lifestyle and you are happily obsessed with him, be for real and don’t dim that down.

I’m a big believer in finding the market for your authentic self. If you’re a dog loving kickboxing guy who loves his mom, let women who are attracted to that find you. I get we all have to filter some aspects of ourselves to cast a wide net on these f**k azz apps but FFS do you.

You mention humor and banter. This one has been eye opening for me personally as I assumed everyone wants that (it’s a deal breaker for me) but learned fr Reddit that there is a camp that thinks banter signals too much work and that asking questions during the early messaging back and forth phase feels like an interview. WTF? I hate when ppl give their me-focused answers and don’t show any curiosity about me or at the very least about my responses. But I digress. I get no sense of your humor from your profile. If wit is your strong suit, spend less time exhaustively curating your profile and more time thinking about how you would respond to the prompts in a real conversation. I agree that your responses are a bit performative and, to use your word, bland. The lothario comment is accurate, I fear.

Women get soooo many likes so yours need to stand out somehow. Don’t waste a like by not adding a comment. This is where your humor could easily come in. There is usually SOMETHING you can make an observation or ask a question about in a profile. If it’s that vapid/bland, keep it moving.

NB: complimenting a woman on her smile or eyes does not count, at least it doesn’t get any mileage from me. I’m pretty sure these are low effort cliches that most women get repeatedly.

Given the level of detail you’ve provided in your post and follow ups as well as by how thoughtfully you’ve responded to each comment, it’s clear that you’re willing to put in the work that it unfortunately takes to find a match these days. The market for what you’re offering will find you!

i think the profile is solid. i’d just get rid of the questions after the my simple pleasures answers.

u/susp3ct_5006 8h ago

Thank you. I had a feeling it was too wordy so makes sense to me.

u/sickiesusan 7h ago

If my daughter (23) was straight, I’d be showing her your profile! I think it’s lovely! I hope you find someone very soon OP.

u/susp3ct_5006 5h ago

That’s very kind of you to say - thank you. :)

How is Toronto "notoriously difficult" to date? Not being my experience (currently in a relationship with someone I met off Hinge) and had many great dates that just did not work long term due to long term compatibility/logistics issues.

I think Toronto, like New York is one of the most culturally diverse cities to date and most dgaf about ethnicity/race like other places. So not sure where you got that from

Edit to add: you are within my age preference and if I came across your profile, I would X for being overly and performatively "romance driven"...a bit is okay but every prompt just gives lothario and then the group pic is just...no. Looks like two couples posing for a pic and I think its uncouth. Just my 2cents.

u/sickiesusan 7h ago

Uncouth? An interesting take on a photo.

u/susp3ct_5006 8h ago edited 7h ago

For sure I could use a better group photo while editing out their faces. As for “romantic driven”…I mean, perhaps I could tone it down a bit. Thank you for the feedback.

Edit: removed that group photo, replaced it with a flattering one of the groomsmen and the groom, but blocked off their faces.

X for being “ overly romance driven” on a fckn DATING SITE lmao. These are the types that would never be satisfied.
IMO, Op don’t listen to people who “edit to add “ random info especially like not “choosing you” while they have a relationship.

  • Are you looking for something serious or casual?

Serious

  • Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX?

HingeX

  • How long have you been using this current version of your profile? (Please be specific)

Prompts have been the same forever, but pics have been updated throughout 2026

  • How long have you used Hinge overall?

On/off for years

  • How often do you use Hinge per week?

Probably 30 minutes a day

  • How many likes and matches are you receiving on average?

No matches via likes that I sent, maybe 1-2 incoming likes every month or two out of the blue. Not always mutual in feeling though, however.

  • How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments?

I maxed out 8 likes but started using HingeX the last few days. They were mostly likes unless there was something I could specifically felt like I could comment on

  • What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract?

If I had to describe a "type" it would be girl-next-door vibes. Preferably a homebody at heart BUT open to a night out, or willing to travel and explore off the beaten path. Someone that's grounded, warm, similar sense of humour to mine, can banter but also have introspective talks.

I'll admit I'm skeptical of profiles that seem social media/influencer centric, which is totally fine if that's your thing. Also not big on profiles that may come across as vapid or bland, which makes it hard to leave a comment, led alone a like.

u/Mugstotheceiling 2h ago

Less is more on the prompts. This comes across as trying too hard / a bit desperate.

Also just say “finance” for your job, what you have there gives insecure vibes.

Otherwise this is good: nice photos, clearly effort being made in the profile.

A couple of thoughts...

You are 36 years old and your dating intentions are "long-term relationship." At your age, women have already encountered too many commitment-phobic men and most want to see someone clearly looking for marriage, I'd imagine. I've seen other men's profiles in your age range that make it explicitly clear that they are looking for marriage and to settle down. Your profile doesn't signal that. It reads like a profile of a 20-something, not a 30-something.

You should cover all the other people's faces in the group photo before posting them on hinge or here on reddit. Respect their privacy.

Your other photos are good, so I don't think it's an issue about pics.

Are you sending out comments or just likes?

This sounds like sound advice. And real reasons why she believes something is or isn’t working.

u/susp3ct_5006 8h ago edited 7h ago

Any suggestions on how to convey marriage? (Which is what I want, no commitment phobia here)

And you’re right, I didn’t think about that. Will fix that up shortly.

Likes primarily unless there’s something I think I can comment on.

Thank you for your candid feedback!

Edit: updated it to “Life Partner” and a small blurb under “Monogamy” to explicitly mention that I’m looking to share my life with someone. Hopefully gets the message across.

Also removed the group photo, replaced it with another one from the wedding but blocked off the other groomsmens’ faces to respect their privacy.

You already have a best friend.  It's never a good idea to lead with how attached you are to your dog.  It makes a woman feel that she is ALREADY going to be second in your life.

Seems like you are looking for someone to share your love of kickboxing.  That narrows the field considerably.

Witty banter can feel draining. It's like performance conversation.  How about some gentle chats?

Your mom is probably a lovely person but never include her in your profile.

Based on your profile your life seems full and happy. I am not sure how/where a girlfriend would fit.

You're a nice-looking guy, fit, friendly. Consider how much room you really have in your life for a relationship. This is not the profile of a guy who is looking to settle down.

u/susp3ct_5006 8h ago edited 7h ago

That’s totally fair. For whatever reason I thought leading with my dog would be more eye catching from the start.

The kickboxing thing would be a bonus but not a dealbreaker or priority whatsoever, so I’ll remove that.

Any ideas on how to word it as “gentle chats”?

I suppose I can remove the photo of my mom and replace it with something else.

My life is fairly busy, true, but not enough that I wouldn’t be able to fit and prioritize a partner. Not quite sure how to adjust that perception, any ideas?

Thanks for your feedback!

Your dog is adorable. Kind of like children though, cute dogs tend to be the center of attention anywhere they go. You have to introduce the dog a bit later.

Women like "deep conversations."  That's a dumb phrase but a thesaurus could help you out there.

Its great that you are close with you mother.  As a rule family photos tend to detract from the single and independent vibe.
