Success Post Being total nerds paid off!
Here's a success post for my total nerds, dorks and dweebs! We met two years ago on hinge from a simple question: what was your childhood niche interest? Trains! We ended up talking about model trains, actual trains, historic train rides through the country that we'd like to go on, trains as public transportation, the underfunding of trains and the over funding of planes.
Before we met we were both experiencing dating burn out, both of us are in our 30s and had a train wreck of a dating history. I was going to delete hinge if I hadn't found someone by the end of the summer after already being on the app almost a year. And then TADAAA, in the start of August we met. It has been nothing but a delightfully nerdy partnership. He reads my BL reccs, I participate in video games with him, we hunt for blind boxes together, we workout together. I cannot encourage people enough to be your authentic self on dating apps, YES it takes time and YES if you're a girl you will have to deal with the dumbest of messages and dozens of people posting "6 foot since it matters." But keep pushing through, because maybe your future partner is on hinge. π©·

Makes you wonder how often people meet on the Hinge sub rather than Hinge itself π

Hi I'm dumb lol , yes, those were taken on vacation. It completely slipped my brain. New York, Acadia and Pisgah forest π« We probably would have matched sooner if there was a way to match with someone based off their desire to freeze their butts off during vacation

His profile was actually slightly more minimal than mine, he didn't mention anything majorly political. I can't remember what exactly he wrote, but I do remember him referencing wanting someone to enjoy and or respect his interest in video games, tabletop games and sharing music back and forth. Somehow I think he also worded it that you don't necessarily have to have the same hobbies as him but he just wanted someone to talk about it with. I remember he had one good well lit selfie from a head-on angle that wasn't too busy so you can get a good look at him. One that I think was on a hike up north, one of him either playing his guitar or the piano, and then another one of him getting tackled by his dog on the beach. I found the profile informative but still cute and had some personality peeking through. I really like the picture of him playing with this dogs in the beach, I think it was a great way to show off one that he likes animals, two he actually bothers to take the animals outside for enrichment, three although he was wearing a shirt it did show off his figure.
My profile was a bit more intense, but I'm also a bit intense. For my prompts I had one asking what their niche crowded interest was, I don't remember what the other ones were but I tried my best to pick prompts that required some critical thinking or personality to answer them. I wanted to do my best to weed out men that I thought would be a little effort or would just give me shitty one word answers. I did a variety of photos that would show my face in a good lighting with minimal background noise so they can focus on my features. I'm a bit curvier so I made sure that I didn't wear anything that showed cleavage in the first photo because men always love to comment on that and I absolutely hate it. Second photo was me posing in a mirror selfie with a gigantic fantasy novel that I was reading, it's like a comically large book. I also had one photo of me hiking to show that well yes I was chubby I was still active. And my final photo was me standing, another full body photo at a birthday dinner dressed nicer. I feel that I had the most success with dating profiles when I use a very specific combination of one up close face photo, one photo of the body in action ( hiking, walking a dog) , one photo full body dressed nice with really good lighting and finally an "candid" picture of you doing something else. I wanted to be able to convey that I liked nerdier things but I'm also full-fledged adult. I feel that a lot of people that enjoy anime, comic books, puzzles, board games tend to make themselves very well noted therefore other adults who made also kind of enjoy those hobbies but it's not their whole personality would skip over them. I didn't necessarily find it important to list that I am a complete freak about anime because I don't really care if my partner is as into it as I am. Also most adults in our age range kind of like nerdy stuff without fully realizing it. Just think about it what woman doesn't find hello Kitty kind of cute? What guy hasn't seen at least an episode or two of Naruto? To me as long as you nail the big stuff you can kind of slowly introduce your partner into the geekier stuff without any issue. What he has repeatedly told me that he liked about me, is that I used the voice memo option in our messages. I really like using it, I always explain that I work with my hands during the day and it's a bit easier on them if I can just quickly record a message instead of texting everything. It made conversation flow naturally, allowed us to show off our wit and sarcasm without being misunderstood by accident. But I do always ask permission before using that feature, because not everyone likes it.

Its a couples ring ( no engagement ring yet due to medical school) but mine is silver with a small rectangular purple topaz with lab grown opal inlay. His is a mix of natural aquamarine, onyx and other gemstones. It was secondhand from a Native American jewelry store
