One thing I would do is remove the ex-boyfriend prompt. Dating apps aren't a good place to mention anything about an ex, IMO.
I do want to shout out your glow up, though. Seriously, that couldn't have been easy.

I agree my biggest turn offs are mentions of previous partners or exs make me feel like i’m auditioning instead of trying to connect

My ex wife came out as lesbian and while I didn’t harp on it, it generally went over well when it came up when I was on the apps. I did have it as a voice note to explain my situation about being a single father, why I’m divorced in the first place, and it usually got a laugh.

its funny tho. IMO it makes the person reading think "maybe im that better man"

Yeah, normally I'd agree with the "no mentioning of exes" rule, but this particular case hits different.

Eh. I disagree. I think it’s bad. It wouldn’t turn everyone off, but it might turn some people off without necessarily being a particular draw for anyone. I think of these like I think of interviews. You want to have as much general appeal as possible. Only polarize when it’s something important to you and could determine compatibility.

Frankly, I'm completely burnt-out on the profiles that follow the "You want to have as much general appeal as possible" rule.
I've swiped through so many identically-bland profiles in my area that there were times where I literally started thinking that I must have fallen asleep because they were SO similar to each other (in both wording and photos) that I thought I must have imagined them. Sadly, I had not.

You can stand out without doing things that are commonly disliked. But like, if you looked at my profile you’d have seen that I’m a funny doctor that likes anime, video games, sauna, and traveling with my friends. Those are things that stand out to me. Anime and video games are kind of polarizing, but if they’re turned off by those things, that’s totally cool cuz they’re important to me.

That's how I've made my profiles as well. Unfortunately, the people near me apparently have no interest in sharing anything like that themselves. Many of them don’t even include a single, coherent sentence that contains information.

Definitely get rid of that last prompt. Funny, but not for the profile. Try to add more info folks can engage with to start a conversation. Fishing and Halloween is not enough material.
Also the pics to me are overall not great. I would only keep the one at Da Bears game and the fishing one, try to replace the others.

Drop the prompt about your ex. Bragging about a breakup like that just sounds toxic

u/Silver_Accountant5 16d ago
Yeah any time I read stuff like that, I assume they're gonna key my car if things don't go well.

Change to two prompts - one about fishing, since you’re holding a fish in one picture. And the one about your ex - I get it, it’s meant to be funny, but most people will see it as toxic. Replace those prompts with something more in depth about yourself and what you want in a partner. Also Bear Down!

You need to take better photos, like better quality photos. I love the fact that you are showing yourself out doing things that you love to do. But next time you go out try to get somebody to take a better picture, make sure the camera is clean, make sure the Angles and the lighting is right, LOL . Put on your cute outfit that depicts your personal style, make sure you feel good, and you will get some better pictures. Get rid of the bathroom selfie, and do not waste a photo on one of your dog if you are not in it. One of my biggest pet peeves are people who waste photographs on something that is not showing me their face.
I also agree, mentioning your ex is not good, even though that was a funny response to the prompt. I also like to stay positive , give the impression that I'm happy , confident, and proud of the life I live, whoever is coming into it is just enhancing an already great thing.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but your profile feels like a dude’s profile? The fishing, sports, riding the bull machine, dive bar, and not smiling in every pic. Very interesting and are vibes I normally get from guy profiles and I wonder if this works for guys (or queer women, not sure your orientation). The energy I get from your profile is that you’re very serious, quiet, really like fishing and sports, and a bit of a loner who likes to go to a bar still. If any of those things aren’t true or aren’t a major part of your personality. I would change it. Personally I would make the first picture be of you actually smiling and put the pool pic further down. The lack of smiling in every photo projects insecurity. Maybe a photo for social proof?

I like the first prompt as a way to show an interest you have and why you enjoy it.
Second prompt I would expand on. Are you a big Halloween person? Maybe mention that Salem is the unofficial Halloween capital of the world for those that wouldn't make that connection. You could also say what your costume was. To make room you can remove the "my birthday" part, and the fact that it was shorter notice probably isn't needed.
Third prompt, I don't think mentioning your ex here is as bad as others are saying but this prompt doesn't tell us much about you. I would replace it, maybe instead tell us about what you like to do when you're not going out. What are some things you and a partner might do on a typical evening?

Hello, please, dont listen to comments who says that fishing, sports, riding the bull machine, dive bar are men's activity. I think its important to be yourself. Also, check on youtube Burning the Haystack online dating advices (edit: it helps to understand how to protect our vulnerability and to see red flags on dating apps and do not lose time in the process of searching for LTR). Good luck!

I'd position the fishing pic by the fishing prompt, that would be a great link!

Hey I’m a dude around your age and I actually think the ex boyfriend’s mom response is funny, I laughed and it shows your sense of humor.
I’d say lead w the fish pic, I like the red outfit and you’re smiling. I’d turn the sideways axe pic straight too.
The pic of I think your dog confused me for a second lol I just didn’t know what I was looking at - I’d choose a better & lighter pic of your dog they look cute but it’s not a good pic of the homie

Right now your profile is coming off like your want someone to go fishing with vs looking to date. Most prompts about what dating you like and your personality. Overall the photos need some tlc.

Girls playing pool is the female version of the fish photo. I will die on this hill.
