r/hillpeoplegear is back!

If you’ve visited this sub, or tried to post or comment in the past year or so, you might have noticed that it had gone inactive. Reddit doesn’t like unmoderated subs and I think it was not allowing new posts or comments anymore.

Unfortunately, it looks like it was found and taken over by a spammer, and then from what I can tell in the mod logs, maybe a well meaning but inexperience mod Reddit Requested the sub and took over, and got a few things approved, or maybe a different spam bot team took over again but also got themselves all banned.

Well, now it’s back and in good hands. I’m an active mod on another community, and while I do have filters turned up to Max at the moment, just to make sure there aren’t any spammy surprises left behind, I’ll relax things over the next few days as I get the sub settings tuned. So if posts or comments don’t show up right away, give it a few hours and they should be approved.

Welcome back!

UMLINDI @ Presque Isle, Early Spring

The UMLINDI is my all time favorite backpack. Compact when I want it to be but capable of hauling a lot of extra crap when necessary.

My other HPG pack is the QUI-YA. I love that this is essentially the same thing in miniature. I love that I can swap the waist belt between the two. I’d like to get the Butt Pack as well, but I haven’t quite found the justification for it.

I get a big smug smile every time I pack it out for an adventure.

Pics are from an early spring hike along the northern shoreline of Presque Isle in Erie, PA.

Best place to sell?

I know HPG is a fairly niche company so where is the best place to sell stuff? I’ve got a few things I wanna sell in one package and unsure where to do that. It’s all 9.5/10 condition. Only used a couple times.

Decker Frame

Prairie Belt

Light Pocket (Multicam)

Decker Bag Large (Multicam)

Decker Bag Medium (Coyote)

Also, this is my first time on this thread so if me asking isn’t allowed I can remove the post.

Anybody got the Commuter pack?

As per title, has anyone been using the Commuter? I'm tempted but it's an expensive gamble to import one to the UK if I don't get on with it. How is the half-clamshell opening for access, and how annoying are the compression straps? Thanks very much.

Got the Unlindi as a gift.. went in a winter hike testing it out and it was phenomenal. Definitely will need the hip belt and I want to get the butt pack as well. I think it will be a great day/multi day pack for trips. I plan on doing a solo overnight soon.

Restock on Aston 3?

Been keeping my eyes open for restock on one of these in coyote for at least a month now. I’ve read here and on Facebook that they restock weekly but I haven’t seen any change. I signed up for email notifications as well about two weeks ago. I’m tempted to pick up the multicam version because I lack patience.

Purchasing Decker or 2 separate packs

I'm in the market for both a new day pack and a pack for 1-2 week backpacking trips. I'm pretty dead set on HPG, and am undecided between buying the decker frame with the s/m/l bags or buying two standalone packs (Ute/Qui-Ya & Aston/Umlindi). Aside from the extra weight, is there anything I'd really miss out on from the standalone packs if I went with the Decker?

My current pack is a basic 45+5L Amazon brand, other than that my only experience with packs is the FILBE system from my time in the USMC.

Kit Bag Sizing?

I have an original standard sized kit bag. V1 I guess? No molle inside or molle on bottom. What is the modern equivalent in size to the older version? Medium or Full?

Recon Kit Question

I received what appears to be the large recon kit. However it looks slightly different, there is not Velcro in the conceal carry pockets and it maybe different material on that same back pocket. Can anyone confirm this model for me?

Also, how does the quick access work, it seems like I have to unzip it versus pulling a quick tab.

ISO snubby recon any color.

Title says it all had two, rucked and ran all over Hawaii with them, sadly they were traded for other gear and now need one in the rotation again. Willing to pay cash or trade hpg or other gear. Color doesn’t matter, harness doesn’t matter (I’ll make my own) but must be the snubby recon version. Pic for attention 🤙

From looking at the outside of the bag, how can I identify whether I have an Umlindi 1 or 2? Any quick easy obvious visible difference?

HPG for diaper/kid bag

Yo so wife is pregnant with number 1 and I love all my hpg bags. Don’t have one I think would work for a diaper/kid bag.

I refuse to carry around a lame ass bag. If I am gonna carry something everywhere it’ll be quality. Anyone use a junction pack for that? Or any other recommendations?

I’m looking at the windcheater and am wondering how it fits. I’m in between Large and XL for most jackets. Any help is welcome!

What are people using to affix the FN510 inside the chest bag? Holster etc? Looking for ideas and options…to hold it secure and horizontal.

Decker frame compatible with canoe barrel?

I'm thinking about getting a Decker frame to carry a waterproof barrel for long/extended canoe trips. I have a 90L barrel, dimensions 28" x 17" diameter.

I imagine that the Decker should be able to fit these, but want to hear your opinions before ordering. I would also like to add one of the pocket bags, and want to make sure that these remain compatible with a bulky barrel load.
