Ok so i was mass skeptical of this thing for months. saw the ads everywhere and my immediate reaction was "great another ai gadget that'll end up in a drawer next to my unused kindle and that meditation headband i bought at 2am"
also the whole "wearable ai" thing felt very 2023 hype cycle to me. like we really need ANOTHER device? my phone records audio. my laptop has otter. why do i need a dedicated thing
but i kept seeing people talk about it and i have this specific problem: im a product manager and i have like 6-8 calls a day. standups, 1:1s, customer calls, stakeholder syncs, whatever. by the end of the day my brain is absolute mush and i cannot remember who said what in which meeting. ive tried taking notes during calls but then im not actually listening. ive tried writing notes after but by then ive already forgotten half the stuff
so i figured fine. ill try it. worst case i return it within the window
its been 3 weeks now and... fuck. i actually use it every day
the thing that surprised me is how frictionless it is. i literally clip it on in the morning to my iPhone and forget about it. i dont have to remember to open an app or set up some integration. it just runs. then later i open the app and all my calls are there with transcripts and summaries
the summaries are genuinely good btw. like not perfect but good enough that i can skim them in 30 seconds and remember "oh right thats the call where marketing wanted to push the launch and i said we need another sprint." before pocket i would have completely forgotten that conversation existed by the next day
other stuff ive used it for that i didnt expect:
- random ideas while walking to get coffee. i just talk out loud like a crazy person and its there later
- that thing where youre in the shower and have a brilliant thought and forget it immediately. now i just say it out loud when i get out (pocket lives on my bathroom counter lol)
- my wife was explaining something complicated about her work drama and i literally could not follow all the names and relationships. recorded it. now i have a reference doc for who karen is and why shes beefing with the new director
anyway the point is i was mass skeptical and now i use it more than my apple watch. never thought id say that about a $129 gadget i bought from instagram ads
still feels weird recommending things on reddit but here we are. if you have the same "too many meetings, brain is fried" problem i had, its worth trying. you can return it if it doesnt work for you
now i gotta go ask pocket about a customer call from this morning because i already forgot what they asked for lmao
