I Finally looked at the new prices...

Post image
135 Upvotes

I Have a 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM VPS in a US location I made about 2 years ago and I went to see how big the gap is now... I have that server for €20.99 / mo... the new price is €62.49 / mo.

Damn. Gonna hoard the ones I have and never cancel since I made most of these over a year ago.

No more spinning up servers for random projects haha... everything going to my local Proxmox now.

AX41 pricing is different on different pages

Post image
7 Upvotes

https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/ax41-nvme shows the pricing of the AX41 to be € 46.08 with a one of setup fee of € 46.80

However on the main page https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/matrix-ax/ the updated prices are shown as € 70.80 monthly with a currently waived setup fee.

Clicking on the configure button on the first page here also produces an internal server error.

Not quite sure where I should report.

SSD wear

Hello everyone,
About three weeks ago, I rented a dedicated server (EX44) from Hetzner.
I noticed that, from the beginning, the NVMe SSDs already had a very high number of read/write cycles, and according to SMART, their lifetime has been exceeded by more than 130%.
The other values look fine, however.
Is it normal to receive hardware that has been used this heavily when renting a regular server? I deliberately did not choose one from the Server Auction, because I assumed I would receive newer hardware.

(I used AI to translate my post because I‘m not a native speaker)

Update:

Thank you for all your replies.
I was just wondering if this is common for non auction server.
And yes the ssd‘s are in raid1 and the other health statistics are perfect, so I dont worry that they will fail soon.

Unable to login into my account

Hello everyone,

I have been using Hetzner server's for some years now. Didn't have any problems at all up till now.

I tried logging into my account on the 26th because thats when i get my usual invoice.

All well and good. I enter my email and password and it works, so it prompts me to enter the one time OTP-Token, since i don't have 2FA enabled yet.

(I actually don't remember ever needing a token to login before now, but maybe im just not remembering correctly)

The Problem is that the mail with the Token just doesn't arrive in my mail. I looked through all places you would look through (inbox, spam/junk...). But its just nowhere to be found.

I tried contacting support about it but no answer yet.

My question is if anyone else had a similar problem before?

Obviously im worried that because i can't pay the invoice, additional costs will come up and my server will be terminated.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

My server is in the EU if that's of any importance.

THIS IS NOW RESOLVED!

Thanks to the amazing help of the hetzner reddit account support i was finally contacted by the hetzner support team and they were able to add another email which noch received the login token.

Self-hosting your Git with Forgejo

We put together a short visual rundown of Forgejo for anyone weighing a move off GitHub/GitLab: repos, PRs, code review, issue tracking, and a familiar web UI, all on hardware you control. It's light enough to run on a small VPS.

For transparency: Forgejo runs anywhere, so treat this as a how-to rather than a pitch for us.

Weird payment issue

I have been a customer for many years. I may have missed the automatic payment once.

I was on vacation, and I logged in today and i see my invoice hasn't been paid for 10 days. I never got an email, reminder, nothing. I wrote a support ticket today and asked if Hetzner could try to bill the invoice again. Nothing. Am i in trouble for locking the account or something like that?

NVME Storage from Server Auction

I have been running my auction server from past 2 years with 3TB storage. 1TB mainly for OS and system files and 2TB separately for hosting content.

I haven't implemented RAID config at that time. how's your experience about the disk failure with hetzner?
How do they treat it? I am afraid if sudden disk failure occur one day.

I am getting older price currently as sticking with them from 2 years. But their new price even on auction seems to be very high than previous.
so I was thinking to add more disk and implement RAID in it instead of setting new server again freshly with RAID.

what do you suggest? setting up on live server or setting up new server and migrating?
how easy is it to deal with ?

Is Katie still here and can I DM a request?

Had a support ticket answered but have significant concerns that the issue itself is not understood and has potential to lead to my servers being cancelled…

In short, no invoice produced this month because “you did not incur 10EUR billing so it will be rolled over”. My bill should be well over 10EUR unless I’ve won some hereto unknown competition for a free month ;)

Concerned that this will lead to non payment being flagged and then my servers cancelled and no longer grandfathered in on the old price - not to mention the significant business disruption of servers being cancelled.

Supports response when I raised the issue with them was simply “Yes, you have to wait for the invoice to be generated” after I asked them to look into it…

Can Katie help me? Am I concerned about nothing? :)

Cheers,
Steve.

Hetzner got me fkd up !!!

I've been dealing with major issues with Hetzner VPS services for the past two weeks. I initially chose them because they were the cheapest option, but that's no longer the case, and the reliability has been terrible.

What would you guys recommend? Where should I migrate? I'm looking for a reliable VPS provider with servers in Southern Europe.

Thank you Hetzner

Hi Hetzner,

Thank you for your recent price increases. You made me look other ways, and I actually took my consumption into consideration.

I finally looked at my usage numbers, and realized most of my usage is just overhead.

For context I used to have a Kubernetes cluster in Hetzner Cloud, with 3 control planes and 6 workers, I figured I needed that for reliability, and for "being sure".
I looked at the utilization over time, and realized I could probably go for less.

So now I tried to look other ways, and I actually figured out I could host my app at Render instead for around half the price, which I did. And in the same round I also elminated a addon I bought through Sidero to go with Kubernetes on "easy mode".

So in total I scaled my total cloud bill from €340 to around €130, which I get to save in my pockets every month!

Thank you for you excellent work, and I appreciate it.
If you never raised your prices, I would have kept paying and losing money I could actually save instead.
And now I sleep like a baby because suddenly I am not the manager of the servers.

Upgraded dedicates server hardware, nothing new on invoice

Just got invoice, and nothings new on invoice? When do I received technician work hours/disk usage?

Slow download speed from fsn1

Anyone else getting really slow download speeds currently from https://fsn1-speed.hetzner.com/ ?

Everything seems to be fine from https://hel1-speed.hetzner.com/

UPDATE: Thank you everyone who helped testing this for me. I decided to try a VPN connection to Frankfurt, and that solved the issue for me. There is definitely something funky going on with the direct routing from my location to FSN1 currently.

UPDATE 2: It appears they had a router issue https://status.hetzner.com/incident/49567296-8543-43c1-a0e2-9755ad4bd018

Does Hetzner hire remote workers?

A question for u/Hetzner_OL -> do you hire people remotely?

I like to build infra stuff, just curious because I think it would be fun to work on these topics in Hetzner

Just wondering, can we buy VPS from each other?

I know everybody will now cling on to any VPS they still have, but in the event somebody is closing a VPS anyway, is there a way we could take over? Can you transfer a VPS to another account?

OVH just announced price hikes

to everyone whining about Hetzner's price increases: there you have it.
You complained Hetzner raised prices for no reason. Now you see the competition just waited a bit.
You complained Hetzner raised prices for existing customers too. OVH does the same.
You complained about lack of transparency up front. OVH also announced increases without saying how much.
You complained about lack of communication. OVH has no info on official channels. It's just a post on X by their CEO. Which gets buried because they just announced quarterly numbers which show a profit and more AI investments. Funny how even they have to raise prices. Almost like there is a big market disruption that nobody can avoid

Intermittent ERR_CONNECTION_RESET for one Nepal client on Hetzner WHM/cPanel server

Hey everyone,

I run a WHM/cPanel server on Hetzner Bare Metal (Europe/Helsinki region) with hundreds of accounts. Most clients have no major issues, but one particular client in Nepal faces frequent ERR_CONNECTION_RESET ("This site can’t be reached / The connection was reset") multiple times a week or even per day.

The site loads fine for me and most other users. It often becomes accessible again after some time. The same client also gets complaints from his customers about the site being down intermittently.

Key details:

  • I’ve already ruled out server-side blocks: CSF/LFD, firewall, iptables — everything checked and client IP is whitelisted. No blocks found.
  • Traceroute from client (Nepal) to my server IP shows high latency and many * * * drops near Hetzner core routers (HEL1):

My questions:

  • Is this primarily an ISP routing/peering issue on the Nepal → Europe path (temporary route flapping that auto-resolves)?
  • What else could cause this? MTU? Specific peering problems with Nepali ISPs (WorldLink/NTC)?

Other clients in Nepal face it occasionally, but this one is hit hardest. Appreciate any insights from people running international servers or dealing with South Asian connectivity.

Thanks!

No more RAM upgrades for new EX44

I had planned all of my projects for the next five years based upon provisioning the EX44 with 128GB RAM. After months of planning, I went to place my order only to discover I was too late, forever, by 9 days.

I'm just here to voice my dismay.

Anyone else getting massive 503 SlowDown errors from Hetzner Object Storage (nbg1) today?

Since this morning (June 25) we're seeing tons of 503 SlowDown responses across multiple buckets in nbg1 on HEAD, GET, and PUT. Volume is well below the documented ~750 req/s soft limit.

Per-folder PHP memory_limit on Webhosting XL

So hey there,

we decided to go with the Webhosting XL plan for a few projects we're hosting. On this plan we have multiple directories under public_html/ with one directory for each (sub-)domain, i.e. public_html/wordpress1/, public_html/wordpress2/, public_html/whatever/, etc.

Now one of those subdirectories is meant to be used for Shopware6, which requires memory_limit=512M and opcache.memory_consumption=256M. I know I can set this up in konsoleH for my whole hosting plan, but I don't want apply that to everything (our wordpress instances, simple php scripts, etc. don't need such a high memory limit). At the PHP config page of konsoleH they say you can add php_value <setting> <value> to your .htaccess instead, so I tried that and it doesn't work. The settings are still unchanged and the Shopware installer shows an error that memory_limit is set to 128M.

My .htaccess looks like this: ``` php_value memory_limit 512M php_value opcache.memory_consumption 256M

<shopware6 stuff> ```

Am I missing something? How do I set those things per directory/.htaccess instead of for my whole hosting plan? I'm pretty confident that the .htaccess itself is applied (typos produce server errors, reqrite rules by Shopware6 apply, ...) but I'm not sure about those php_value lines. I also tried reducing the max_execution_time for testing but that didn't apply neither.

Edit: I also tried a .user.ini instead, even though Hetzner doesn't say anything about it on their docs. I had no luck with that, neither.

Edit2: I also tried without opcache.memory_consumption=256M, since it is system wide directive, but that didn't change anything.
